Chapter 28 The Diplomat Murder Case (Part 4)

When Ran saw her beloved, whom she hadn't seen in a long time, a blush rose on her face, and she said in disbelief, "Shin-Shinichi! It really is Shin-Shinichi!"

Ran's eyes welled up with tears as she yelled at Shinichi, "Shinichi! Where have you been?! I thought you weren't going to pick it up anymore, but then you suddenly reappeared! You have no idea how worried I was about you!"

Shinichi looked somewhat helpless, but also a little happy, and said, "Silly girl, why are you crying?"

Heiji, standing beside Shinichi, felt a surge of emotion upon meeting someone of equal renown for the first time. He said, "She's absolutely right. You just said that this old man was lying. Are you implying that my reasoning was all wrong?"

Shinichi walked over to Ran and said, "Ran, wait a minute, don't worry, it'll be over soon!"

The sound was very soft, so soft that only Ran could hear it. Seeing Shinichi covered in sweat, Ran temporarily suppressed her doubts.

Heiji, refusing to believe his reasoning was wrong, yelled at Shinichi, "Shinichi Kudo, tell me, where exactly is my reasoning wrong?!"

Shinichi paused for a moment, took a breath, and said, "The method you described is just theory; it can't be implemented in real life!"

Although Inspector Megure didn't want to admit it, he wasn't unreasonable. He said to Shinichi, "Brother Kudo, Heiji just demonstrated it, and it was very successful!"

Shinichi smiled and said, "Excuse me, is the key really in the victim's pocket, Inspector Megure? It sounds like the key did indeed end up in the victim's pocket, that's right."

Upon hearing this, Heiji rushed out to clear his name. Heiji forcefully reached into Inspector Megure's pocket, but to his surprise, the key did not go into the place he expected.

Heiji looked on in disbelief. He couldn't believe his reasoning could be wrong, and he wouldn't allow himself to be wrong, especially not in front of his opponent!

Shinichi looked down at Heiji and explained, "Because at that time, Inspector Megure was sitting! When you're sitting, there will be wrinkles that prevent the key from going into the pocket. So the fishing line would be pulled out of the tape before it went into the double pocket. Besides, Inspector Megure is much thinner than the victim."

Heiji still wanted to prove his reasoning was correct based on probability; his pride wouldn't allow him to make a mistake!

Shinichi didn't give Heiji any face, saying, "No matter how many times you try, the result will be the same. Think about which direction the key was facing back then!"

Heiji then remembered this detail that he had overlooked.

Shinichi turned to the crowd and said, "This means that the culprit actually put the key in the victim's pocket from the beginning."

Heiji pulled out his fishing line, still trying to argue: "Then how do you explain the fishing line I found in the Japanese-style room?"

Shinichi turned to Toshimitsu Tsujimura and said, "Because that's the killer's goal—to make this old man take the blame."

As he spoke, Shinichi took out the same fishing line from his pocket and said, "I also found five or six sets of the same fishing line."

"The prisoner placed fishing lines in many places in this house so that the old man would get the same result no matter where he was!"

Heiji pointed at Tsujimura Toshimitsu and said, "But this old man himself admitted that he was the one who killed him!"

Shinichi sneered: "That's because the old man deliberately walked into the trap set by the murderer!"

However, Shinichi also admitted frankly, "But, for what reason, I'm not quite sure."

However, Heiji couldn't think of any other method besides this one, unless the victim committed suicide!

Shinichi dismissed his idea, saying, "The murderer left clues to the real methods he used! Have you forgotten that when the victim was found, an opera was playing, and there was a pile of books in front of the victim? The opera was to cover up the screams the victim might make, and the books were to cover up the painful expressions the victim might have."

Heiji felt uneasy. Hearing these explanations, he smiled and asked Shinichi, "Tell me, whose eyes are you trying to cover for?"

Shinichi looked at Heiji and said, "Of course it's yours, Hattori Heiji?"

Ignoring Heiji's surprise and confusion, Shinichi continued to explain, "Of course, it's not just you, but also Ran and Mr. Mori who came into the study with you!"

Shinichi turned to look at Kimie Tsujimura and said, "There's only one truth! The murderer is the person who was closest to the victim at that time. Yes, that's right, the murderer is you! Mrs. Kimie Tsujimura!"

Everyone looked at Tsujimura Kimie. Uncle Mori's intelligence wasn't low either, but it was usually overshadowed by Conan, oh no, now it should be called Shinichi. Mitsuyu didn't think Uncle Mori was as simple as he seemed.

Uncle Mori asked, "So, the victim was still alive at that time, right?"

Shinichi nodded and explained, "At that time, Lady Tsujimura Kimie only used some kind of drug to put the victim to sleep, and then, while pretending to call the victim, she stabbed him with a poisoned needle. If it is a highly toxic poison, the victim will die without moving!"

"Mrs. Tsujimura prepared the opera and books just in case!"

Inspector Megure asked Shinichi, "If sleeping pills are found on the body, then this method is..."

Heiji understood at this moment and explained, "No, we won't be discovered because we always thought the victim died before we entered the study. If what you say is true, then the murderer could have brought the detective here to create her own alibi and to lure us into this trap, thus framing Mr. Tsujimura Toshimitsu!"
