"I'm ugly."
Kiichiro Numabuchi's tone made Mitsuyu feel as if he were talking about something completely unrelated to him: "When I was five years old, my father separated from my mother, and my mother never told me why."
Kōyū raised an eyebrow. It seemed that if the story of Numabuchi Kiichirō were put on a talent show, it would definitely be able to evoke a wave of tears, provided that the face was covered.
“My mother and I lived in a small village near Gunma Prefecture, and I was verbally abused by the children in that village when I was a child.”
Numabuchi Kiichiro placed his hand on the table, paused for a moment, and then continued, "My home is a simple wooden house a few hundred meters away from the village. It leaks wind in winter and rain in summer. My mother makes a living by doing housework for the villagers."
"I remember that I never had a full meal when I was a child. The fish and meat that appeared on the family table during the occasional New Year and holidays were caught by my mother from the river near the mountains."
At this point, Kiichiro Numabuchi's originally calm voice trembled slightly: "The river water is very cold in winter. After my mother came back from catching fish, her entire lower leg was frozen blue and purple. It was because of this that my mother later developed severe rheumatism."
Numabuchi Kiichiro suddenly took a breath: "But there are still good people. The Kawaguchi family, where my mother often works, are quite kind to us. They would send us food and clothes and toys that their children didn't want from time to time."
"To ease my mother's burden, when I was seven years old, I often went to the mountains to make traps to catch small pheasants and rabbits. Every time I saw my mother give me most of the food, I was really touched."
“My mother often took me to see fireflies at night. Looking at that group of fireflies, my troubles seemed to disappear. I will never forget that scene in my life.”
“When I was eight years old, my mother took me to listen to a class next to the elementary school classroom and said that if I studied well, I could change my life and change the family’s situation.”
After talking for so long, Numabuchi Kiichiro was a little thirsty, so he picked up another glass of juice on the table and took a sip.
The cool juice flowed down Numabuchi Kiichiro's throat and into his stomach, the sweet taste and texture making his eyes slightly warm.
“When I was twelve years old, my mother died of a serious illness. Since then, I have been ostracized from the village and have been living alone outside.”
"I came to Tokyo on my own two legs and made a living on the streets. When I was able to find a job, I took a manual labor job to earn some hard-earned money."
Numabuchi Kiichiro's tone gradually turned angry. "After that, I encountered some scum who talked about my mother, so I killed them in a fit of rage. In the end, I was taken to that demon organization and subjected to inhuman training."
His tone returned to calm: "Having lost my usefulness, I learned that I was going to be used for human experimentation, and coupled with my fear of the organization, I ran away."
Kōyū also came to a few conclusions in his mind: Numabuchi Kiichirō described his childhood in detail, but summarized his experiences as an adult in a single sentence.
Judging from what he said, at least one thing is certain: his mother held a very high place in his heart, and it's clear that he still has a human heart and hasn't become a heartless killer.
Guangyou took a sip of juice, frowned, and asked, "You really don't want to get revenge?"
Numabuchi Kiichiro did not respond immediately, and seeing this, Mitsuyu did not force him to make a response right away.
Guangyou stood up and said to him, "I'll give you some time to think it over. Tell me your answer tomorrow. If you'd rather be sentenced to death, I'll make the arrangements for you."
"Have you finished talking?"
Cheng Shi happened to be carrying a cake box when she pushed open the door of the bar and walked in.
Guangyou looked her up and down, then asked with amusement, "You're not going to just wait at the door the whole time, are you?"
How could that be?
Narumi smiled at Kōyū, raising the cake in her left hand. "Look, I went shopping and bought a cake on the way. Besides, I don't have that much time to listen to your conversation at the door."
Guang shrugged, not wanting to remind her that the address and purchase time were written on the cake box.
"I'll be going now."
After saying goodbye to Chengshi, I walked along the bar street.
It was already three or four in the afternoon, and the bar street was starting to get busier.
Many girls dressed in revealing clothes and wearing heavy makeup were walking in pairs on the street.
Occasionally, you can see students with curious expressions watching everything coming and going.
I took the bus back to the office.
As soon as you enter, you can smell the delicious aroma of food and immediately spot Conan sitting on the sofa playing video games like a couch potato.
As soon as Kōyū returned, Conan turned off the game, picked up the book on the table, and started reading.
"Oh, right, Guangyou, there's a package for you. I left it in the room."
Conan flipped through the book and said casually.
Who sent it?
Guangyou was a little confused. He didn't know who would send it to him, since online shopping wasn't a thing back then.
"I don't know, the signature on it says GAME."
Conan shook his head and replied without even looking up.
Conan's words reminded Kōyū that the package was supposed to be the mysterious gift that Hiroki had promised.
However, he planned to put the package aside for now and open it after taking a shower in the evening.
"Dinner's ready."
Xiaolan's greeting made Guangyou temporarily put aside his thoughts, stand up from the sofa, and prepare to wash his hands and eat.
...
It was late at night. Guangyou, dressed in light gray cotton pajamas, sat at his desk, holding a package that seemed to have witnessed the vicissitudes of life. He was filled with emotion.
