After a while, Ai took the initiative to move closer, rested her head on Kouyu's shoulder, and said softly, "You're right. If you really say that, I'll think you're very hypocritical."
"Yes, I'm glad you understand."
Guangyou reached out his left hand and placed it on her shoulder, pulling her towards him.
Turning his head to the side, Kōyū buried his face in Ai's hair, sniffed it, and then turned back to say, "You've asked your questions, so it's my turn now."
Ai shrank back and nodded: "Go ahead and ask."
Guangyou took a breath and asked curiously, "When did you realize you had feelings for me?"
Ai, nestled in Kousuke's arms, thought for a moment, then shook her head: "I don't know either. At first, I just thought you were a good person."
Guangyou twitched the corner of his mouth. Was this considered giving him a friend card...?
Ai recalled, "Back then, I felt like you were an older sister. You considered me in many things but never asked for anything in return. And you even saved my sister."
Guangyou chuckled and hugged her tighter, defending himself: "Who said I don't want anything in return? The return I want is you, isn't it?"
"Smack!"
Ai reached out and patted Kousuke on the shoulder, saying in an annoyed tone, "Yeah, I was really stupid to get myself into this mess."
"But I like this kind of silliness."
Kōyū ruffled her hair. To be honest, he already liked this gesture; Ai's hair felt wonderful to ruffle.
"Let me draw you some pictures."
Kōyū released Ai, picked up his notebook, flipped to a blank page, and started drawing.
He didn't make a draft; he had already drawn the figures dozens of times, so there couldn't be any mistakes.
Ai sat to the side, her big eyes fixed on the portraits on the notebook, and she felt a strange sense of familiarity.
As the drawing progressed, her gaze softened: "It's a drawing of me."
After finishing the last stroke, Kōyū wrote a string of English signatures and the date at the bottom of the page in a flamboyant style, and then handed it to Ai.
Ai took the notebook, pointed to the signature, and asked, "Isn't this signature mine?"
Guangyou nodded and explained, "Yes, I practiced this signature for a long time before I could do it so fluently."
Ai handed the notebook and pen back to Kōyū, her voice gentle: "Leave your name here."
"good."
Guangyou took the notebook and wrote the character "光" (Guang) on it in a flamboyant style, adding a small heart to the lower right corner of the character. It was simple, clear, and perfectly reflected Guangyou's own philosophy.
After signing, Ai took the notebook, hugged it to her chest, and looked at the two portrait pictures.
Kōyū reached out and put his arm around Ai. Ai didn't resist; she just rested her head on his shoulder and flipped through her notebook with watery eyes.
He also turned his head to peek at Ai's diary entries; the earliest one was from the day Ai arrived at Teitan Elementary School.
...
"I ran into a strange guy. He seemed to know me, but I had no recollection of him. He wasn't in the organization either. He even saved my sister. Who is he?"
"To be fair, although it's strange, the person seems alright; at least the food they cook is delicious."
“That strange man said his name was Guangyou. I think he’s more than just a child, but he probably hasn’t taken his medication.”
...
"Today, Guangyou took me to see my sister. It's been a long time since I've seen her, and she seems happier. That's great."
...
"I think I have a special feeling for this strange person. I've only ever felt that kind of selfless dedication from my sister and my parents."
"Is this feeling... what liking someone is?"
...
"Guangyou is injured and still unconscious. I'm panicking. It's all because of my willfulness. Should I just leave without saying goodbye? I'm afraid he and those elementary school students will get involved."
"But if I leave, he'll be angry, won't he..."
...
"He doesn't look that bad in a skirt."
"Now that I have leverage over him, let's see how he bullies me in the future."
...
"The summit of Mount Fuji is beautiful, but it's so crowded. I wish it were just the two of us..."
...
Actually, there are many more, but these are the ones that Guangyou remembers most vividly.
Each passage, whether long or short, allowed Guangyou to recall the scene at that time.
That bus accident was the most serious injury he had ever suffered since he came into this world; it was the first time he had fallen into a coma due to injury.
The result was obvious: he didn't think being injured was anything shameful.
A man's scars are medals of honor, but it also depends on why he was injured: for love, for righteousness, for reason.
Those scars left from fighting with others because of superiors are nothing but shame; to call them medals is an insult to the word.
Guangyou recovered quite well from that injury, and there were no obvious scars left on the surface, which was fortunate amidst the misfortune.
It's best to avoid receiving these kinds of medals, since they're not really a good thing to begin with.
It was a pity about the Mount Fuji incident. If it had been just the two of them on the summit, embracing each other at the most beautiful moment of sunrise, and simultaneously taking a wide-angle shot from between them towards the sun, the photo would have been absolutely stunning.
Unfortunately, there were too many people at the top of the mountain...
"When did you ever want to walk alone?"
Kōyū twirled a strand of Ai's hair that was hanging by her ear with his fingers, and said with some dissatisfaction, "Your thinking is dangerous, woman."
"But we didn't leave." Ai was a little guilty. Even though her tone was flat, you could still tell that she wasn't very confident.
