That noon, Kōyū wavered between waking and sleeping for a while, and finally, at Ai's prompting, he completely succumbed to waking.
He got out of bed, put on his clothes, walked to the table, and sat down, his eyes fixed on Ai, who was walking out of the kitchen.
Ai placed a bowl of noodles in front of Kousuke, then sat down and looked at him expectantly: "Give it a try."
Guangyou picked up his chopsticks, spread out the noodles, stirred them, then picked up a piece and put it in his mouth, pretending to close his eyes to give the illusion that he was savoring it.
After swallowing, Kōyū slowly opened his eyes and nodded affirmatively in Ai's gaze: "Very good."
Ai breathed a slight sigh of relief and said, "That's good."
"And you?"
Kōyū picked up a mouthful of noodles with his chopsticks, put it in his mouth, looked up at Ai, and asked, "What are you having for lunch?"
There's still a bowl of noodles left.
Ai got up, went back to the kitchen, brought out a smaller bowl, and then sat back down in her chair to eat it in small bites.
Compared to Kōyū, Ai's eating manners were much better; her movements were extremely ladylike, and there was practically nothing wrong with them. Kōyū, on the other hand...
The two of them didn't say anything, just silently eating their noodles. The only sound around them was probably the slurping sound of Guangyou eating his noodles.
At that moment, the door to Professor Agasa's house opened.
Kōyū put down his bowl, looked up at the door, and said to the person who came in, "Doctor, remember to pick up your car from the Gunma Prefectural Police Station later."
Professor Agasa, who had just entered, smiled awkwardly and said, "Okay."
"Is there anything to eat?"
The aroma in the air also whetted Professor Agasa's appetite. "I've been busy all night and haven't eaten anything."
"There was nothing left in the house, and Kudo ate the last bowl of instant noodles."
Ai looked at Professor Agasa apologetically and said, "How about you go out to eat this time, Professor?"
After thinking for a moment, Professor Agasa nodded and said with a wry smile, "Alright, I'll go eat now and then go to the Gunma Police Station this afternoon to pick up my car."
Watching Professor Agasa walk out the door, Kōyū felt inexplicably embarrassed. He had taken over Professor Agasa's bed, eaten his food, and then asked him to go out for a meal.
"Isn't it a little unorthodox?"
Guangyou shook his head, then picked up his chopsticks, put a mouthful of noodles in his mouth, raised an eyebrow, and said, "Delicious."
...
After finishing his noodles and resting for a while, Kōyū said goodbye to Ai and left Professor Agasa's house.
Normally, he would be heading to the office by now, but he glanced at the calendar before leaving, and it was because of that glance that he changed his plans at the last minute.
The sun was high in the sky, and its warm rays bathed Tokyo, dispelling the chill brought by the snow.
To save time, Guangyou took a car to Mingmei's apartment and rang the doorbell.
"They're here."
Akemi opened the door and, seeing Kōyū standing there, glanced around instinctively before asking in confusion, "Kōyū, didn't Shiho come with you?"
Guangyou shook his head and explained, "No, I came here specifically to see you."
"All right."
Akemi was slightly disappointed that her younger sister hadn't come, but she didn't say anything. She simply stepped aside to make room for Kōyū to come in.
Akemi poured Guangyou a glass of water, then sat down next to him and asked, "What brings you here today?"
Guangyou took a sip of water, somewhat disgruntled: "Can't I even come and see you, Mingmei-nee?"
"Come on, don't give me that."
Akemi gave me a look that said, "Don't try to fool me," and waved her hand. "If you just wanted to visit me, you would have brought Shiho with you."
Is it that obvious?
Kōyū reached up and wiped away non-existent cold sweat from his forehead, and honestly said, "Okay, there are indeed one or two things."
"I knew it."
Akemi leaned back on the sofa with her arms crossed, looking at Kōyū with a scrutinizing gaze, and said, "Speak, what is it?"
Recalling the scene, Kwang-yu looked up at Akemi and said, "I exchanged a few words with that man."
Mingmei's smile vanished instantly, her eyebrows furrowed tightly, and she asked with concern, "Him? Does he look alright?"
"He looks healthy and strong, there's nothing wrong with that."
Guangyou nodded and comforted him, "Besides, with his skills, there shouldn't be any problems."
"That's good."
Mingmei's eyebrows relaxed, and she patted her chest. "It's good that he's alright."
"By the way, what did you talk about with him?"
Remembering what Kōyū had just said, Akemi looked at him suspiciously. "Given your current situation, he probably won't pay any attention to you, right?"
Finally, we've gotten to the point!
Guangyou didn't hide anything and gave a general account of what happened yesterday.
"She pretends to be calm on the surface, but secretly cries..." Akemi murmured this sentence repeatedly, then chuckled softly, "A silly woman, huh?"
Seeing Akemi's expression, Kōyū waved his hand in front of her eyes and said, "Snap out of it, Akemi-neechan."
"And then what?"
Akemi looked much more relaxed at this moment, and her smile was even brighter.
Guangyou continued, "Later I asked him, 'Did you protect this silly woman well?'"
A hint of anticipation flickered in Mingmei's eyes as she asked, "What was his answer?"
He said no.
Guangyou chuckled twice, as if he had just thought of something. "He said that was the worst defeat he had ever suffered."
"Let him lie to me."
