Chapter 496 Takagi's Lack of Confidence

How did you know she was married?

Takagi glanced at his police handbook, somewhat puzzled, and said, "I don't remember telling you about her marriage."

Kōyū pointed to the ring Misa was wearing and said, "She told me."

"oh."

Following Kōyū's gaze, Takagi also saw the wedding ring and immediately felt somewhat embarrassed. To change the subject, he turned around and quickly walked to the three women, asking the most composed one, "Ms. Watanabe Kazuna, could you please inform the deceased's husband?"

The woman named Watanabe hesitated for a moment before saying, "Okay."

After saying that, she took out her phone from her handbag, hesitated for a moment before opening the phone case, pressed a few buttons, and then put the phone to her ear, looking somewhat strange.

Guangyou clearly noticed this unusual feeling. He narrowed his eyes slightly, lost in thought.

After waiting for about forty minutes, a man in a suit with shiny hair jogged in.

The man raised his hand to check his watch, then looked around. When he saw the woman on the ground, he became agitated and rushed to Misa's body, kneeling down and asking in a tearful voice, "My wife was such a good woman, why, why!"

Takagi stepped forward, bowed slightly, and said apologetically, "I'm very sorry, we've done our best, please accept my condolences."

The man suddenly took a deep breath, clenched his right fist tightly, raised it and lowered it again, hesitated for a moment, and then slammed his fist into the ground with a dull thud.

"Um?"

Kōyū squinted, his gaze passing over the man and settling on Watanabe Kazuna, who was suppressing her impulse to step forward. He then gave a mocking smile and muttered to himself, "It seems it's not that simple."

Ai didn't hear that sentence clearly, so she turned her head and asked, "What did you say?"

Guangyou shook his head and said, "It's nothing, let's keep watching."

The man lowered his head, his trembling hand gently stroking Misa's face, looking as if he were extremely heartbroken and grief-stricken.

Seeing this scene, Takagi couldn't help but shake her head and take a few steps back to give the man some space.

Kōyū also pulled Ai to stand a little further away. His gaze swept over the man, and when he saw the sneakers on the man's feet, he suddenly chuckled.

He was dressed in a suit and sneakers, but a mark on his right shoe reminded him of something.

The mark left on his shoe allowed Guangyou to immediately identify the murderer. If his guess was correct, then the murderer was most likely this man.

"The acting is quite good."

Guangyou looked around and saw that everyone around him was more or less moved by the man's performance, especially Watanabe Kazuna, whose facial expression was quite interesting.

"Officer Takagi, the test results are in."

A staff member in a white coat came over and handed Takagi a test report, saying, "The deceased showed signs of poisoning. We detected trace amounts of anesthetic and toad venom in the deceased's blood."

"The deceased suffered severe burns to multiple parts of his lower body, and his upper body showed signs of burns of varying degrees, but was in much better condition than his lower body. The preliminary assessment is that the deceased died from arrhythmia caused by poisoning, which, combined with the severity of his injuries, ultimately led to his death."

Takagi nodded as if he understood, and said to the staff member, "Thank you for your help."

"fine."

The staff member returned the greeting, then turned and left without hesitation.

"Ah, so I guess I'm still not good enough after all?"

Takagi flipped through the report, feeling utterly overwhelmed. If it weren't for a coincidence, he wouldn't have been left to take charge alone this time.

"Officer Takagi, may I take a look?"

Kōyū walked up to Takagi, looked up at him and said, "Don't forget I helped you before."

"Never mind, I'll just call the inspector and ask him to send someone over."

Takagi shook his head. It wasn't that he didn't trust Kousuke, but having a child help him solve cases was simply a bit...

To be fair, he certainly wanted to solve the case by himself to prove his abilities, but while waiting for someone, he also went with the fire department to check the scene and found nothing. It seemed that all traces had been swallowed up by the flames.

This brought the investigation to a standstill, and currently there are no other leads besides some information obtained from the three individuals.

"Don't you want Miwako-neechan to think more highly of you?"

Guangyou looked down at his feet and said nonchalantly, "Do you really want to just be someone else's assistant every time?"

He knew that Takagi was just insecure and thought he couldn't do it, but honestly, if he got serious, he wasn't bad at all.

In the past, he was able to deduce the location of the arsonist on his own, and he also fought hard to survive because he did not want to destroy the handcuffs left by Miwako's father.

It's not that he can't do it, it's that he's unwilling to.

"I..."

Takagi looked down at his palm and fell silent for a moment.

After a long silence, he slowly shook his head and said softly, "I don't want to, but I should..."

"That won't work."

His tone contained helplessness, self-blame, and, more than anything, a lack of self-confidence.

"A man can't say no."

Kōyū extended his hand to Takagi and said, "Officer Takagi, if you may, could you show me that test report and the statement?"
