Ai was holding a knife and fork, about to cut a piece of steak, when Kōyū took the steak away before she could even touch it. After a moment of surprise, she understood what Kōyū was going to do.
This wasn't the first time. Basically, every time she ate this kind of thing, she didn't have to do it herself. Guangyou would cut it into small pieces before she ate it so it would be easy for her to eat.
Ai herself knew that she had not asked Kousuke to do this for her, and she had never even mentioned such a request, nor would she ever.
She put down her knife and fork, rested her chin on one hand, looked at Guangyou across the table with her beautiful eyes, and smiled slightly.
At that moment, the commotion at the next table made her glance over there. When she saw Aoko and Kaito interacting, her smile widened, and she murmured, "Suddenly I feel a little proud."
...
Aoko stood up, looking at Kaito expressionlessly. Kaito, oblivious to the strange atmosphere, blinked innocently, swallowed the steak in his mouth, and said seriously, "If you don't eat steak, then don't order it. Wasting food is shameful."
Aoko took a breath, and instead of getting angry, she smiled and said to Kaito in a gentle tone, "How about you help me finish this steak, Kaito?"
"I just can't do anything with you. Fine, fine, I'll take care of this steak for you."
Kaito waved his hand, giving Aoko a "I really can't do anything with you" look, completely unaware that behind Aoko's expression was a volcano about to erupt.
But the volcano unexpectedly stopped erupting.
Aoko sighed. She knew Kaito's personality, and she knew that Kaito was not wrong in this matter, so she didn't want to get angry at the innocent Kaito.
She wasn't that unreasonable; she was just a little jealous when she saw Guangyou cutting steak for her "childhood sweetheart."
...
"Eat."
Ai looked at the steak in front of her, which had been cut into even small pieces. She picked up a piece with her fork, stood up, and placed it on Kouyu's plate, saying, "Your salary."
"So generous."
Kōyū forked the steak Ai had given him, dipped it in the sauce, and put it in his mouth. "So generous that it was gone in one bite."
Ai chewed the meat in her mouth expressionlessly and said, "It's good enough that there's any, why are you being so picky?"
"Could you pay me some extra salary later?"
"Dream on."
...
Nothing else happened during the meal, and the atmosphere was very harmonious.
The four of them were doing their own thing. Aoko and Kaito barely said anything, while Mitsuyu and Ai were much more lively with each other.
Kōyū would occasionally tell a joke to liven up the atmosphere at the dinner table, and Ai would laugh along in response.
Aoko, who was standing to the side, occasionally glanced at the two of them, her eyes full of envy. She looked up at Kaito, who was eating happily, sighed, and said, "It's infuriating to compare yourself to others."
"They're both boys, so why is there such a big difference?"
…
The two tables finished eating almost simultaneously, and after paying their respective bills, the four people left the restaurant.
"I'm so full."
Kaito suddenly conjured a toothpick using magic, picked his teeth, and grinned broadly.
Meanwhile, Kōyū, who was also a boy, turned to look at Ai and asked softly, "Are you full? Do you want me to go buy some more snacks?"
These two drastically different approaches made Qingzi realize even more the gap between people.
If Kaito is a young man in his prime who occasionally indulges in small romantic gestures, then Kousuke is a charming boy who makes people feel warm at all times.
Aoko recalled the times when Kaito used magic tricks to make her laugh, and couldn't help but smile sweetly: "Kaito is actually quite handsome when he's trying to coax me."
But the next second, Aoko remembered the embarrassing thing that Kaito often said about her, and she glared at Kaito, thinking to herself, "But most of the time he's still a real jerk."
Kaito, an innocent bystander, was caught in the crossfire once again. Luckily, he didn't know, otherwise he would have been depressed for a while.
"Let's go, let's buy some popcorn at the movie theater later."
Kōyū took Ai's hand, turned around and waved to Aoko, saying, "Aoko-neechan, we're leaving now, bye-bye."
Are you going to see a movie?
Upon hearing the first half of Guangyou's sentence, Qingzi quickly stopped Guangyou and the other person, saying, "We're going too, let's go together."
Kōyū secretly gave Ai a look, then turned his head and replied, "That works too. Ai said she had a lot of fun chatting with Aoko-neechan."
"Is that so?"
Aoko looked delighted and said, "Just because you called me 'sister,' I'll treat you to popcorn later."
After saying that, she turned to look at Kaito and asked, "Kaito, shall we buy two more servings of popcorn later?"
Kaito was rubbing his slightly full stomach when he heard this, and he suddenly paused. He glanced at Kouyu, then at Aoko, and fell silent for a moment.
The famous writer Lu Xun once said, "You can't refuse a good thing that's given away for free; if you do, you'll lose face. You absolutely have to accept it!"
To emphasize his point, Kōyū deliberately made his tone sound like a typical child trying to be cute, then smiled at Kaito and said, "Thank you, Kaito-nii-san~"
"You're welcome."
Kaito smiled broadly, but inwardly cursed, while giving Kōyū a look and mouthing, "You really want to?"
"Why not take it if it's free?"
After replying in the same way, Guangyou looked at Qingzi and said, "Qingzi-neechan, let's go, it's already seven o'clock."
