Chapter 55 Challenge and Revenge

"By the way, Inspector Megure, do you know what type of bomb it is?"

"Yes, the bombs on the remote-controlled airplane and the bombs on the pet carrier were both plastic bombs."

Upon hearing the answer, Conan confirmed his suspicions.

Officer Shiratori, dressed in a blue suit, was taking notes: "The remote-controlled airplane is equipped with an impact bomb with a detonator, while the bomb on the pet basket is a time bomb with a timer attached."

"But why did the bomb suddenly stop 16 seconds before 7 o'clock?" Uncle Mori thought of a crucial question, which was also one of the key reasons why Conan survived.

Inspector Megure rubbed his chin: "There are two possible reasons for this outcome. One is that the timer suddenly malfunctioned for some unknown reason. The other is that the criminal may have used a remote control to stop it for some reason. There are probably only two possibilities."

"Judging from the fact that the culprit specifically called Shinichi Kudo, perhaps he came to challenge him because he heard of Shinichi Kudo's reputation as a high school detective, or perhaps the culprit and Shinichi Kudo have a personal grudge." Inspector Megure could only think of these two possibilities at this point.

The officer behind him, Shiratori, looked at his notebook and said, "According to my investigation, the criminals in the cases solved by Shinichi Kudo are still in jail and facing legal punishment."

Uncle Mori rubbed his chin: "So, you mean the prisoner's family member or lover?"

"Regardless, our police are searching for potential perpetrators based on this description of their speech," Inspector Megure said, pointing to the three members of the detective team.

Genta took out a piece of paper and handed it to Conan: "Conan, this is it, it looks very similar!"

Taking the paper Conan and looking at it, he was pleasantly surprised: "Wow, you've captured all the key features!"

However, Conan had no recollection of the bearded man in the picture. Considering that the mysterious man used a voice changer to make phone calls, Conan thought that this mysterious man might be someone he knew.

Dr. Agasa, as if struck by a thought, turned to Inspector Megure and asked, "Inspector Megure, which case, among the cases solved by Shinichi in the past, received the most attention from the public?"

Inspector Megure looked up and thought for a moment: "I think it should be the case of Mayor Okamoto of Nishitama City. That case involved a 25-year-old woman who lived in Nishitama City and was hit and killed by the mayor's son on the street. I think it should be that case."

"We initially thought it was just a regular traffic accident, but Shinichi Kudo had a lot of questions about it. Later, the truth came out: it was Mayor Okamoto who did it, and his son took the blame for him. Shinichi Kudo found out about it."

"Because of this case, Mayor Okamoto resigned in disgrace, and his plan to build a new town in Nishitama City was completely halted after the new mayor took office."

"Inspector, so does that mean Mayor Okamoto's son is holding a grudge about that incident?" Officer Shiratori guessed.

What a coincidence! Mayor Okamoto's son happens to be a student in the Department of Electrical Engineering.

Officer Shiratori understood immediately, greeted them, and then went out to investigate Mayor Okamoto's son.

As for the mysterious person's characteristics, the more the better. Inspector Megure walked up to the three members of the detective team and said, "Besides these, if you remember any other characteristics of the culprit, please feel free to tell us!"

The three members of the detective team looked up, trying to think of any other distinguishing features.

That's why girls are said to be more thoughtful. After thinking for a while, Ayumi said to Inspector Megure, "The scent, I smelled Xiangxiang's scent when that weirdo handed the remote control to Mitsuhiko."

Genta and Mitsuhiko had no recollection of them.

"A pleasant scent?" Uncle Mori guessed. "Is it the smell of cosmetics?"

Although Ayumi didn't know what it smelled like, she said it didn't seem quite like perfume.

"Something is better than nothing," Inspector Megure sighed and said, "I understand. If you think of any other suspicious clues, please let me know."

The three members of the Detective Boys had been out for quite some time, and seeing that Conan was alright, Mitsuhiko suggested, "Speaking of which, we should go home."

Genta nodded in agreement, but Ayumi was different. She grabbed Conan's hand and said, "Conan, if you have any troubles, I'll come right away!"

What could Conan say? He could only scratch his head and thank him.

Seeing Ayumi treat Conan like that, the other two boys who liked Ayumi felt jealous. Genta put his hands in his pockets and pretended not to care, saying, "Hmph, Conan is so nice!"

Mitsuhiko, standing next to him, squinted and said, "We both really want to be hospitalized right now."

Uncle Mori, stroking his chin with a gossipy glint in his eyes, said teasingly, "Conan, I didn't expect you to be so popular! You've got some skills, kid!"

Conan was in a difficult situation and couldn't express his feelings, so he could only chuckle awkwardly.

Then the three members of the detective team left the room.

Feeling utterly helpless, Inspector Megure complained, "Where on earth is Shinichi Kudo at such a crucial moment?"

Conan and Professor Agasa, hearing the complaints, couldn't retaliate and just chuckled awkwardly.

Just then, the mobile phone on the table rang.

Conan was about to answer the phone when Uncle Mori stopped him, saying, "Wait a minute, Conan, if it's the culprit calling, hand it to me!"

Conan nodded seriously, took the phone, and said in a tone that pretended he knew nothing: "Moshi moshi."
