Chapter 609 Why eat a rabbit when it's so cute?

On the way to the observation deck, Kōyū and Ai kept whispering to each other.

Most of the time, the former speaks, and the latter chimes in with a few words, occasionally bringing up another topic on their own initiative.

Conan, who was walking ahead, already regretted it; he shouldn't have called Mitsuyoshi over.

He sensed something was wrong with the observation tower when he was there, but at the time he just wanted to consult with Guangyou.

After all, there's a saying that "many hands make light work," and he knows that principle.

Only now does Conan realize how naive his idea was.

Why didn't he just go directly to the observation deck?

He was also called Guangyou.

So far, Conan doesn't feel that Kousuke will be of any help to the case.

More importantly, he now feels like a 100-watt light bulb.

I asked him to help solve the case, but I ended up being fed a mouthful of dog food (a Chinese slang term for witnessing public displays of affection).

In fact, Guangyou knew what was important. Although the two were chatting and enjoying the scenery along the way, their speed up the mountain was not slow; they just weren't running.

Soon, Guangyou and the others returned to the observation platform.

There was no one on the lookout tower at the time, which greatly facilitated the investigation.

As a "child," such behavior of approaching a cliff would definitely be stopped.

If Uncle Mori were here, he would definitely give them a good scolding.

"Kuangyou, come and see." Conan stood in front of the railing, his expression solemn. "Seeing these, I feel more and more that this secret is not so simple."

"You mean spider webs?" Kōyū examined the handrail with great interest, understanding Conan's meaning.

During the time it took to fall off the cliff, the only thing that could have come into contact with the deceased was this handrail.

If there are spider webs on it, then it can be explained, but if there aren't, then a problem arises.

Where did the spider silk on the deceased's body come from?

It's impossible that the deceased was actually Spider-Man, and that he sprayed those spider webs himself.

"Not only that, there are no signs of a fall on the edge of the cliff." Conan crouched down and pointed to the edge of the cliff, saying, "Unless the deceased jumped down himself, there would be some trace left here."

After observing the scene, Conan had already made a judgment about the nature of the case.

It's impossible for it to be an accident; this case was definitely deliberate!

"You're right, this case is most likely another murder."

Seeing these leftover messages, Kōyū felt somewhat helpless. It seemed that Conan was indeed committing murder wherever he went.

“I know that, but there’s still one question I haven’t figured out.” Conan frowned and pondered, “It’s about those two ropes next to the corpse, both ends of which were tied.”

“And that rope end.” Conan paused, then continued, “It would only bend like that if it had been tied up for several hours. I really can’t deduce the purpose of those two ropes.”

As the words fell silent, the room fell still.

Everyone present was deep in thought, including Ai Haibara.

Of course, Ai wasn't interested in solving the case; she just wanted to help Kousuke and kill some time.

A moment later, a possibility suddenly occurred to Ai, and although she wasn't sure if it was right, she still said it: "What if the murderer attacked the victim from the bottom of the cliff?"

These words were like a wake-up call, and upon hearing them, Kōyū and Conan suddenly realized the truth.

It's not that Ai guessed correctly, but rather that these words provided the two of them with a new perspective.

"I remember there was a big tree at the bottom of the cliff..." Conan recalled the scene he had seen, "and that big tree didn't seem to be growing on the rock face..."

The length of those two ropes was simply insufficient for a person to climb directly from the foot of the mountain to the top.

If the goal was to attack the dead from below, there must have been a small platform below the watchtower that one could easily reach.

It was because of Ai's words that Mitsuyu had the same idea as Conan.

After looking around, he picked up a piece of gravel from the ground, then walked to the handrail, bent down, and gently tossed the gravel out of his hand.

The pebbles drew a graceful arc in the air before falling off the cliff and disappearing from Guangyou's sight.

Within seconds, Guangyou heard the sound of gravel falling to the ground, and then laughed and said, "Judging from the sound of the gravel falling, there should be a small platform below the observation tower, and there is a height difference of about ten meters between the observation tower and the platform."

“Then let’s go back the way we came,” Conan said, stroking his chin. “When we go back, we should watch out for the side roads; there might be some hidden paths.”

"Um."

...

In search of the so-called shortcut, the group looked around as they descended the mountain.

Guangyou had already walked the path up the mountain twice, and he had no recollection of any of the trails along the way.

The scenery on both sides of the road is actually quite similar; behind the bushes are all trees.

"I don't recall seeing any forks in the road," Guangyou said with some doubt. "Could it be that we're mistaken? Or is there actually no side road at all?"

As soon as they finished speaking, the bushes to their left suddenly trembled and made a rustling sound, and then a brown-furred hare jumped out.

Once she regained her senses, Ai looked at the rabbit in front of her and smiled, "This rabbit is quite cute."

"Hmm, it must taste delicious." Guangyou looked at the plump rabbit, smacked his lips, and said, "Barbecue looks good, braised looks alright too..."

Hearing this, Ai rolled her eyes at Kouyu and spat, "All you ever think about is eating."

"Food is the most important thing for people~" Guangyou muttered. "It looks so delicious. When the time comes, we'll cut the rabbit meat into pieces, coat it with egg wash, coat it with breadcrumbs, and fry it in oil until golden brown on both sides. Even Conan next door will be drooling."
