Chapter 771 In-depth Investigation

"yes."

Glancing in the direction of the police car, Guangyou nodded and said, "He was crying and saying that he would set fire to the house again because of that Guan Yu keychain."

"I understand." Officer Gong Chang nodded seriously after hearing this, and strode towards the police car.

Walking to the police car, Officer Yukichi bent down, placed his hand on the car door, and asked incredulously, "Genta, is it true?"

When asked the question, Genda Ryūnō lowered his head, looked at the white cloth covering his hands, and remained silent.

No response is the best response, but Officer Gong Chang, who was well aware of this, still couldn't quite believe it.

On the way back, he confidently told Uncle Mori and the others that Genda Takatoku could not possibly be the arsonist.

Less than an hour later, Genda Takatoku turned himself in.

Saving face is a small matter; what Officer Gong Chang cares about is whether he has trusted the wrong person.

Recalling the scene he had inadvertently witnessed, Officer Gong Chang pressed, "Genta, did you really commit all those arson cases?"

After a few seconds of silence, Genda Takatoku loudly apologized to Inspector Yumigahara, then lowered his head and began to sob.

The officer standing to the side said to Officer Gong Chang, "Well then, Officer Gong Chang, we'll take the suspect back to Beihua Police Station for now."

"Hmm." Officer Gong Chang released his grip, nodded, and said, "Thank you for your hard work."

After greeting Officer Gong, the officer got into the driver's seat, started the police car, and drove towards the police station.

"Judging from his appearance, he'll probably confess soon," Uncle Mori said, stepping forward and watching the departing police car.

Officer Gong Chang stared silently in the direction the police car had gone, his expression serious.

Behind the two, Guangyou turned his gaze away and said to Xiaolan, "Sister Xiaolan, I'm going up first."

"Well, it's getting late, let's go to sleep early," Xiaolan nodded and said.

After greeting Xiaolan, Guangyou turned around and went up the stairs to the third floor.

Upon reaching the second floor, Kōyū saw Kazuha and Ai emerging from their room on the third floor.

"Kuangyou, where is that person?" Kazuha asked, holding the Guan Yu keychain in her hand.

“He was taken away by the police,” Guangyou explained.

"Is it really him?" When Kazuha heard that sentence, she wondered as she went back to her room to get the keychain, whether the uncle who gave them the keychain was the arsonist.

Otherwise, why would he have said that?

No normal person would admit to being the arsonist.

But why did he cry when he said it?

A sudden pang of conscience?

He Ye doesn't know much about these things.

At that moment, she wanted to return the keychain to the man to avoid trouble, and then call the police to handle the situation.

She has been taken away by the police, but the keychain is still in her possession.

"What should we do with this keychain?"

Upon hearing Kazuha's words, Kōyū pointed downstairs and said, "Then let's give this keychain to the police officer downstairs."

"Then I'll go down and take a look."

After saying that, He Ye went downstairs.

"Ai, why did you come out?" Kōyū turned to look at Ai and said softly, "Let's go, it's cold outside, let's go back."

"There was too much noise outside, so I came out to check it out," Ai said as she followed Kōyō up to the third floor. "It seems the matter has been resolved now."

Knowing she was referring to the arsonist, Guangyou shook his head and said, "Not necessarily, there are still many doubts."

Hearing what Kōyū said, Ai nodded in agreement, "There are indeed many suspicious points. Why would an arsonist confess to being the arsonist..."

"Did he confess while crying? Did he suddenly have a change of heart?"

"So, there are still quite a few suspicious points." As he spoke, Kōyū pushed open the door on the third floor and walked into the room with Ai.

After entering the house, Kōyū checked the time and said to Ai, "It's getting late, go to sleep."

"You should go early too," Ai nodded in response.

"Um."

Before Ai went back to her room, Kōyū habitually ruffled Ai's hair; he loved the feeling of her hair brushing against his fingers.

After watching Ai walk into the room, Kōyū pushed open the door and returned to his own room.

Back in his room, Guangyou lay down on the bed, ready to sleep.

He didn't know how much time had passed when he was awakened by a burst of discussion.

Opening his eyes, Kōyū sat half-upright on the bed, watching Hattori Heiji and Conan discussing something at the desk.

He said, somewhat exasperated, "Hey, aren't you two going to sleep? If you're not going to sleep, don't bother me."

"Sorry, sorry." Conan turned to look at Kōyū and said apologetically, "We feel there are still many doubts in this case, so we've been discussing it."

“There are indeed many suspicious points.” Kōyū nodded in agreement.

Before Conan could continue, Kōyū picked up his phone from beside his pillow, turned on the screen, pointed to the time displayed, and said, "So, could you guys please pay attention to the time and the volume of your conversation?"

"Sorry." Heiji Hattori scratched his head and chuckled awkwardly. "We got a little carried away with the discussion."

After being woken up, Guangyou felt he wouldn't fall asleep again so quickly, so he looked at the two of them and asked, "So what did you two come to a conclusion?"

"We discovered that this arson case is very similar to a detective story written by Agatha Christie."

As he spoke, Conan picked up the book from his bookshelf, pointed to the title, and said, "It's this one, 'The ABC Murders'."

Thinking that Kōyū might not have read the book, Hattori Heiji briefly explained the techniques used in the story to Kōyū.
