Chapter 853 A Love That Ended in Withering

Time slips away quietly.

It felt like only a blink of an eye before the morning classes were over.

After lunch, Guangyou and Xiao Ai went to their usual spot—under a tree next to the basketball court.

The two sat under the shade of a tree, not chatting as they had in the morning, but leaning against each other, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere.

Sunlight filtered through the gaps in the leaves, casting irregular patches of light on the ground and on Kouyu and Ai.

Sometimes, when a gentle breeze blows, these dappled lights sway as the leaves move.

Kōyū came here to rest with Ai because it was quiet.

Later, I discovered that this was a really good location; very few people came here.

Children in this age group are full of energy; after a morning of classes, they can't sit still anymore.

As soon as lunch is over, many children go to the playground or sports field to work up a sweat, and Conan is one of them.

After lunch, Conan often goes to the soccer field to play.

Conan is very popular because of his superb ball skills.

It wouldn't be an exaggeration to call him a prominent figure on the field.

Even though Conan later played with older students and even when they were being let off easy, his side still won.

If you were to ask Kōyū to give him a nickname, it would probably be "the high school detective who is famous among elementary school students".

Getting back to the main point, apart from those people, many of the rest stayed in the classroom, either chatting with friends or sitting in their seats reading a book.

Some people do wander around after finishing their meal.

But most of them are on the playground.

There are hardly any people coming to this place now.

Perhaps they were lucky; every time they came, there was no one here.

Even if someone comes along the way and sees someone under the tree, they will usually turn around and leave.

After visiting so many times, this place became known as their "old haunt."

...

After resting in the shade for almost half an hour, Guangyou opened his eyes and glanced at the time.

"Let's go back to the classroom."

Seeing that it was almost time, Kōyū stood up from the ground and habitually reached out his hand to Ai.

"Hmm." Ai slowly opened her eyes after hearing Kouyu's voice, and naturally placed her hand in Kouyu's palm.

Ai then used Kousuke's strength to stand up from the ground.

Shortly after the two returned to the classroom, afternoon classes began.

...

"Ring ring~"

As the crisp sound of the school bell rang, laughter filled the entire campus.

"Kuyoshi, Ai Haibara-san, see you tomorrow!" Ayumi said goodbye to the two with a bright smile.

"See you tomorrow, Ayumi." Kōyū returned the smile.

"See you tomorrow," Ai nodded and replied calmly.

After receiving responses from the two, Ayumi nodded and said "Mmm," then turned to say goodbye to Conan.

"Conan! See you tomorrow!"

"Ayumi, see you tomorrow!" Conan replied with a smile.

The difference became apparent again at this moment.

Both were responses, but Ayumi was noticeably happier after hearing Conan's reply.

"Okay!" Ayumi smiled and nodded, then left the classroom.

She had something to do today and needed to go home early, so she didn't leave with the others.

"Sigh... I really wonder how Ayumi will react when she finds out the truth." Mitsuyu sighed as he watched Ayumi's departing figure.

At her age, her feelings are very simple.

You either like it or you don't.

Although Ayumi can't distinguish between the different kinds of liking.

Is it the affection between friends, or is it like the affection between him and Ai?

But what she knew was that her feelings for Conan were slightly different from her feelings for her friends.

But it is precisely because of these differences that Guangyou thinks this way.

If Ayumi knew the truth, she would inevitably be heartbroken.

Besides being heartbroken, Kōyū couldn't guess how Ayumi would react after learning the truth.

"Then don't tell her." Ai turned her gaze away from Ayumi and said to Kouyu.

"Just tell her she's transferred schools then."

"Yes, this method is good." Guangyou nodded.

Although Ayumi might be saddened by Conan's transfer, it will only last for a short time.

From a long-term perspective, this method is undoubtedly very good.

Thinking of this, Kōyū glanced at Conan and sighed.

Neither of them is wrong.

It is precisely because neither of them is at fault that things are complicated.

"This budding relationship can only wither away," Ai said slowly.

“Yeah.” Guangyou agreed, then stopped thinking about it and changed the subject, saying, “Alright, let’s go.”

"Mm," Ai nodded in response.

The two met up with Conan at the classroom door, said goodbye to Mitsuhiko and Genta, and then left the school, heading home.

Before returning to his office, Kousuke stayed at Professor Agasa's house for a while.

I chatted with Ai for a while.

It wasn't until sunset that Kōyū returned to his office.

...

That evening, in a suite in a high-rise apartment building.

"Is that Xiaohui? It's me, Ayumi." Ayumi sat in the chair in front of the desk, swinging her legs, looking a little worried.

"Xiao Hui, listen to me."

"It was this Saturday and Sunday, which was supposed to be my turn to go to school to feed the rabbits, but I had something to do on those two days."

"So, Xiaohui, could you go in my place?"

When the girl on the other end of the phone, called Xiaohui, heard Ayumi say this, she smiled and immediately guessed what Ayumi was thinking.

"I understand, Ayumi did it for Conan, right?"

When her thoughts were exposed, Bu Mei was slightly taken aback. She hadn't expected Xiao Hui to guess so quickly.

After realizing what had happened, her face turned slightly red.

"Ayumi, you must be going camping with Conan and the others again, so you want me to feed the rabbits in your place, right?"

"Xiao Hui, are you busy those two days?" Bu Mei frowned, worried that Xiao Hui might disagree.

However, her worries were clearly unnecessary, as Xiao Hui readily agreed.

“Okay, I happen to be free those two days, so I’ll go in your place.”

Upon hearing Xiaohui's agreement, Bu Mei's face immediately lit up with a smile.

Before she could thank Xiaohui, Ayumi heard Xiaohui say to her again, "But you have to tell me when you get back!"

“Ayumi, every time you go out with Conan, you always encounter unexpected events.”

This is no big deal, Ayumi readily agreed. "Don't worry, Hui, I'll tell you lots of stories when I get back!"

"Thank you, Xiaohui!"

"You're welcome."

After chatting with Xiaohui for a while, Bumei hung up the phone.

Her cute little face was full of smiles.

Unable to contain her emotions, Ayumi jumped off the chair, unaware that a small notebook had slipped from her and fallen to the floor.

She laughed and shouted, "Camping! Camping! We're going camping this weekend! Camping with Conan!"

...
