"Sister Xiaolan, we're leaving now." Guangyou changed his shoes, opened the door to the third-floor room, stood in front of the door, and called out to the room.
"Okay, you two be careful on the road," Xiaolan's voice came from the kitchen.
"knew!"
After saying goodbye to Ran, Kousuke closed the door, turned to look at Conan, who was wearing a mask, and said, "Let's go to the hospital."
"Hmm." Conan put his hands in his pockets, and because of his illness, he didn't look as energetic as usual.
The two went downstairs and arrived at the bus stop.
While waiting for the car, Kōyū glanced at the sickly Conan and said seriously, "Conan, you really should increase your exercise."
"I do play soccer sometimes," Conan said, then sneezed.
“But your physical condition isn’t very good. You caught a cold after just one night, and medicine didn’t help,” Guangyou said, stretching his body.
"Why don't you come and work out with me later?"
Upon hearing this, Conan suddenly remembered the scene he witnessed when he and Kousuke went to exercise that day, and quickly waved his hand, politely declining.
"I'll pass on that. I'll increase my exercise intensity later."
Although Guangyou never forced him to exercise, he would stop and rest for a while whenever he felt he couldn't keep up.
But Conan doesn't want a situation where "Kouyu is still training while he's just sitting there slacking off" to happen.
I might go later, but not now.
"Okay, fine." Kouyu didn't insist. He was just saying it casually. If Conan didn't want to go, he wouldn't force him.
While waiting for the bus, Kōyū took out his phone and glanced at Ai's reply.
As he expected, Ai only replied with, "Okay, be careful these next couple of days."
It was different from what he had expected, but not by much.
"She's probably doing her research right now." Kōyū thought for a moment, resisting the urge to text Ai, and put his phone away.
When he looked up, Kouyu noticed that Conan was holding a phone, his fingers hovering over the keyboard without pressing any keys, as if he was lost in thought.
"Hey, Conan, what are you thinking about?" Kōyū asked after watching for a while and seeing that Conan still hadn't made a move.
"I'm thinking of sending Xiaolan a text message to tell her to be careful these next few days and not to catch a cold."
His words surprised Guangyou.
After staring at Conan for a few seconds, Kōyū looked up at the sky, frowned, and seemed to be talking to himself.
"The sun didn't rise in the west today either."
"Hey, Kōyū, what do you mean..." Conan understood Kōyū's unspoken meaning. He was just sending a text message, what was so surprising about it?
"I'm a little surprised," Kōyū said, glancing at Conan's phone. "I didn't expect you to actually figure it out."
"Could it be...?"
As he spoke, Kōyū looked Conan up and down, rubbed his chin, and guessed, "Could being sick make someone's emotional intelligence come online?"
"My emotional intelligence is always on point, okay?" Conan had barely finished speaking when he felt Mitsuyoshi's suspicious gaze.
It was as if Kwang-woo was asking, "Are you sure your emotional intelligence is always on point?"
“…” Conan sniffed and fell silent.
Finally, it was Mitsuyu who broke the silence between the two, saying, "Conan, the car is here, let's get in and talk."
Just as Conan was still silent, the bus heading to Beika General Hospital slowly pulled up in front of the station.
"Oh." Conan snapped out of his daze and boarded the bus with Mitsuyu.
After the two found two adjacent seats in the back of the car, Guangyou said, "You said you wanted to send Xiaolan a text message telling her to be careful not to catch a cold, right?"
"I think I made myself perfectly clear." Conan pursed his lips, but because he was wearing a mask, Kouyu didn't see him pursing his lips.
Even if he saw it, Guangyou didn't care. He continued, "If you want to send it, just send it. What are you hesitating for?"
"There are just some..."
"Are you shy?" Kōyū interrupted Conan before he could finish speaking. "It's just showing concern, what's there to be shy about?"
“You don’t understand…” Conan choked for a moment, then offered a generic reply.
Upon hearing this, Guangyou chuckled, shook his head, and said, "Alright, alright, I don't understand, you can keep worrying about it."
"What should I send..." Conan stared at the text message interface, his fingers hovering over the keyboard, hesitant to press any key.
He wasn't conflicted about whether to post it or not; he would definitely post it, but the key question was what to post.
"If all else fails, send a message to Xiaolan in your mother's name."
Just as Conan was struggling with what to post, Kōyū suddenly said, "For example, like this..."
"My mom said the weather in Tokyo has been changing a lot lately, so she asked me to send you a text message to remind you to be careful not to catch a cold these next few days."
"It seems...that works too." Conan thought about it carefully and felt that sending it this way was entirely feasible, and it could kill two birds with one stone.
Besides expressing concern for Xiaolan and reminding her to be careful not to catch a cold these next few days, this text message also served to reassure her.
When he talked to Xiaolan on the phone, she asked him what he was doing and where he was, and his answers were basically the same:
"I'm busy with a very tricky case."
Sonoko had complained about Ran before, saying, "Shinichi is busy with some case, we can't even see him or hear from him."
Although Ran always explained to Sonoko that he was busy with a case and didn't have time, Conan believed that Ran was also thinking about these things.
