"I came all this way, only to get caught in the rain," Sonoko complained, glancing listlessly at the empty tennis court while holding an umbrella.
"Now you can't even see a single person."
"I think we should go fishing together by the river," Uncle Mori suggested, remembering the fishing gear he had specially prepared for this vacation.
He certainly couldn't see the "beautiful female college student," but he couldn't go back empty-handed.
"Fishing?" Sonoko thought for a moment and had no choice but to nod in agreement. "That's all we can do for now. There's nothing fun to do in the villa."
"Let's go then." Xiaolan thought going fishing by the river would be a good idea, since it was raining and there wasn't much else to do.
"Kuangyou, what about you guys?" Uncle Mori asked. "Are you coming with us to fish by the river, or are you going to rest at the villa first?"
"If you guys want to go fishing, that's fine too. I brought your fishing rods with me this time."
"Let's go fishing then." Kōyū made the decision quickly, then glanced at Ai, and seeing that she nodded, he said.
"Since you're all going, I'll go too," Conan said, taking off his mask and inhaling the fresh, rainy air in the forest.
After deciding to go fishing next, the group didn't linger at the tennis court and headed towards the parking lot.
...
After taking their fishing gear from the trunk of the car, the group went to the river to fish.
Uncle Mori was very well prepared this time, with folding chairs, fishing rods and other equipment, but he only prepared three sets of tools.
Normally it wouldn't be enough, but now that it's raining, it's perfect for three people to go fishing. The three of them can hold an umbrella for each other to avoid getting wet and cold.
Since Sonoko and Conan weren't particularly interested in fishing and just wanted to kill some time, they were responsible for holding the umbrella.
Sonoko held the umbrella for Uncle Mori, while Conan naturally held the umbrella for Ran.
The other person holding the umbrella was Ai. She wasn't interested in fishing, but she was somewhat interested in watching Kōyū fish.
"Do you think you can catch it?" Ai stood next to Kousuke, holding an umbrella over him, and subconsciously tilted the umbrella towards Kousuke.
"I don't know either." Guangyou held the fishing rod, looked at the float bobbing up and down on the river, shook his head and said.
When it comes to fishing, no one can be sure they'll catch a fish, and there are plenty of people who fish for hours without catching a single one.
"Going all the way to Karuizawa to fish..." Conan thought to himself as he held the umbrella for Ran, "How did a perfectly good vacation turn into this?"
If he had known it would rain today, he would have stayed at the office.
"Just you wait and see, I'm sure I'll catch a big fish for dinner!" Uncle Maoli said confidently, holding his fishing rod.
Behind him, Sonoko raised an eyebrow, thinking to herself:
"Dinner will be at the villa, and my chef and maid will prepare dinner in advance for us when we get back."
She didn't tell anyone about it, so as not to damage Uncle Mori's confidence.
"Um?"
Looking at the river, Guangyou frowned. He looked up at the upstream direction and said, "Why does it feel like the water level in this river has risen a bit?"
“I felt it too.” Conan looked down at the riverbank and said, “It rose suddenly, but the remaining rain shouldn’t cause the river level to rise so dramatically.”
"Maybe it's just your imagination." Uncle Mori wasn't concerned about the water level not rising; he was more concerned about whether he could catch any fish.
"Ah!" Xiaolan suddenly felt the fishing rod in her hand become lighter. She lifted it up, frowned, and asked, "Why did my float get washed away again?"
I've been fishing here for almost half an hour now.
In the past half hour, her float has been washed away twice.
I don't know why.
"That's because you didn't tie it properly." Uncle Mori picked up a spool of fishing line and demonstrated for Ran while explaining.
"Because this fishing line is very slippery, you have to tie a special knot to secure the float, like this."
“There are other ways to do it.” Seeing that his fishing rod hadn’t moved yet, Guangyou picked up a spool of fishing line and demonstrated a method.
"I see." Xiaolan nodded after seeing the two demonstrate, then picked up another float and tried to tie a knot.
"Uncle! Your fishing rod is moving!" Sonoko's voice unconsciously rose as she saw Uncle Mori's fishing rod bending into an arc.
"The commotion seems to be quite significant!"
"Really!" Uncle Mori didn't even bother to properly lay out the fishing line, casually tossing it to the ground beside him. He got up, grabbed the fishing rod, and started reeling in the line.
The heavy feeling coming from the fishing rod excited Uncle Mori.
"This is definitely a big one!"
Good heavens, this feels like a really big fish!
The catch is definitely enough to feed several people for several meals.
He had a feeling that this was definitely the biggest fish he had ever caught!
"But it's so heavy!" Uncle Mori wondered. What exactly was that thing underwater? Why couldn't he fish it out?
"Come and help me out!" Uncle Mori gritted his teeth and called for outside help.
"I'm here." Seeing that his fishing rod still wasn't moving, Guangyou decisively put it down and ran to Uncle Maoli's side to help pull the rod up.
"Is that a shark down there? It's so heavy!"
"Hey, what's that down there? Why is it so big?" Sonoko asked in surprise, pointing to a dark shadow on the water's surface.
