"Ai, it's time to eat."
A cute girl who looked about seventeen or eighteen, wearing a standard school uniform, leaned on a desk in the classroom and smiled as she said to another girl sitting in a chair, "Our Junior Detective Club has an activity this afternoon."
Ai looked up and smiled at the girl: "Ayumi, you go first, I'll watch for a little longer."
"Okay, then hurry up."
Ayumi seemed used to this kind of answer and wasn't surprised. She nodded and turned to leave.
After Ayumi left the classroom, Ai closed her book, slumped onto the desk, and murmured, "You weren't supposed to get caught, were you...?"
…
The bench in the grove
"Nice to meet you. My name is Guangyou, and I am Chinese."
A boy with a bright smile extended his hand to a girl with brown hair, saying, "Aren't you going to introduce yourself?"
The girl with tea-colored hair didn't turn around; she simply got up from her seat, turned, and left.
Guangyou jogged after her: "Miss is so aloof, let's get to know each other!"
"It would be nice to add each other on WeChat or something." Guangyou paused, "By the way, I don't have WeChat now."
The girl still ignored him, but quickened her pace, trying to pass the boy in front of her.
But Guangyou sped up and blocked the girl's path. He stretched out his hand and showed that smile again: "Let's get acquainted. My name is Guangyou, and I'm Chinese."
The girl frowned, then finally opened her pale pink lips: "Stay away from me."
"You think you can just leave like that?"
Guangyou scoffed, "Then I'd lose face."
"You'll regret this." The girl pushed Guangyou, who was blocking her way, aside and walked past him. "Anyone who gets close to me will be found and disappear. Stay away from me."
Watching the girl's retreating figure, Guangyou didn't chase after her. He stood there and called out to her, "Are you talking about hide-and-seek? I won't get found!"
The girl in the distance paused slightly, then resumed her normal pace the next second.
The girl's lips curled into a smile, but it wasn't one of happiness; it was a smile of helplessness, a helplessness that tugged at the heartstrings: "Another one is going to disappear..."
…
Two days later, the girl was still sitting on the bench in the grove, flipping through another book.
Feeling a bit tired from watching, she stretched out her slender, snow-white fingers and rubbed her eyes.
For some reason, she suddenly remembered the boy from two days ago and couldn't help but laugh at herself, "Another person in the world has disappeared."
"What disappeared?"
The sound made the girl suddenly raise her head.
Guangyou still had that sunny smile on his face, and extended his hand: "Miss, let's get acquainted. My name is Guangyou, and I'm Chinese."
The girl hesitated for a moment, then reached out and gently shook hands with Kouyu's fingertips before saying, "Shiho Miyano."
Guangyou smiled and said confidently, "I told you, they can't catch me. I'm really good at hide-and-seek."
"I hope so..."
…
"Won't this place be discovered?"
Shiho looked at Kouyu, who was smiling beside her, and asked in confusion, "Why are you always smiling?"
"Because it's fun, hide-and-seek is such a fun game."
Guangyou chuckled twice and glanced around: "Don't worry, this is a secret base I built myself. Nobody knows about it except me, oh, and you."
"You should smile more." Guangyou lay down on the ground in a starfish position. "It's not good to have a long face all the time."
I'll give it a try...
...
Kōyū lay on the ground at the secret base and whispered, "Shiho~"
Shiho leaned against the wall, looking at her book, and said, "Hmm."
Without saying anything, Kōyū continued calling out, "Shiho-ho~"
Shiho turned a page of her book and said, looking up, "I feel a little nauseous."
Kōyū turned his head to look at Shiho, who was still reading, and said with a mischievous grin, "Shiho-ho-ho~"
"It's getting more and more disgusting."
Shiho closed the book and deliberately made a vomiting motion.
"Shibaobaobaobao~"
"Disgusting!"
...
"Didn't you say you wouldn't be discovered?!"
Shiho looked nervous and got up, preparing to push open the door of the secret base and run out. "I'll distract them, you hurry up and go."
"It's been three or four years, even if they're stupid, they'll figure it out eventually."
Kōyū glanced helplessly at Shiho, then got up and casually stretched.
"Remember, when I leave, you hurry..."
Halfway through her sentence, Shiho felt a sharp pain in her neck, and her vision went black. Before she completely lost consciousness, she heard a familiar voice.
"I won't get arrested."
...
"You said you wouldn't get caught, but where are you? You've been hiding for so long, you should be out by now."
"The game... is over!"
Ai slowly opened her eyes, got up, picked up her books, and walked out of the classroom.
...
"Ai, you're here."
Ayumi looked at Ai, who had sat down to read a book as soon as she entered the room, and frowned deeply. "You're not eating lunch again?"
"I'm not hungry, I'm on a diet."
Ai turned a page and continued reading attentively.
"Haibara-san doesn't need to lose weight, her figure is already great."
A boy with freckles on both cheeks straightened his tie, blushing, and didn't dare to look at Ai.
"How about I share some of the eel rice with you?"
