77 Days of Scavenging
The village was completely deserted.
The little robot followed Lin Jian's group, which consisted of five people including him. All of them were people with superpowers.
The remaining few superhumans had to stay at the truck to protect the survivors. Although there was a protective shield, they couldn't leave anyone behind.
“This village has been deserted for a long time.” Lin Jian could tell just by looking at the surrounding environment. “Everyone, spread out and don’t stray too far. Stay alert.”
"Okay!"
Everyone here is a seasoned veteran who has dealt with many things in the post-apocalyptic world. They have plenty of experience in this kind of place, and even if they were alone, they wouldn't have any mishaps.
Lin Jian specifically asked the little robot whether it wanted to act alone or with him.
The little robot thought for a moment and said that it was fine to be alone.
"Alright, let me know if you need anything." Lin Jian wasn't worried about not being able to handle this big shot, so he agreed and casually chose a direction to start exploring.
Only the little robot remained in place.
This was the first human dwelling he had ever seen in this world. Looking around, large sections of bricks, tiles, and mud walls had crumbled away, and some houses had collapsed halfway, revealing the dusty interiors.
The road was littered with piles of firewood, stones, and other objects so dirty that their original color was no longer discernible.
Upon closer inspection, one can see what appear to be bloodstains and dried limbs, with traces occasionally peeking out.
Looking at these commotions, it's as if you can see what exactly happened to this village.
However, this is not the main focus of the little robot's observation of the environment; it wants to infer the level of development of the world by observing traces of human life.
This is not difficult at all for the little robot.
After going in and out of the two rooms, he had pretty much drawn a conclusion.
The technological level of this pre-apocalyptic world was roughly the same as the modern entertainment industry he had visited, and their development in various aspects was also very similar.
No wonder humans were so shocked when they saw the protective shield he took out.
Strictly speaking, the protective shield he took out this time wasn't entirely a technological product; it was something he modified while learning how to make magical tools in the magical world.
Pushing open another door, before even entering, the little robot sensed something was wrong.
There's movement!
In an instant, a hoarse voice came from the side of the door, accompanied by a sharp claw that suddenly grabbed at the arm!
"Roar!—Roar?"
The zombie that had ambushed them stood frozen in place, its狰狞 (zhengning - ferocious) expression on its face.
Its impoverished mind told it that something was wrong. Where was the blood it craved? And why were its claws broken?
Unfortunately, the zombie was no longer able to understand what was happening. It saw the strange human in front of it pull out a stick-like object and point it at its head—
The zombie immediately fell straight to the ground, completely transforming into a real corpse.
The little robot looked at the zombie on the ground, then touched the spot where it had just been grabbed, and decided to change its clothes first.
It wasn't that he was a germaphobe, but the obviously torn sleeves clearly indicated that something had happened, yet his skin underneath the thin fabric was completely unharmed, without even a white mark, which was clearly abnormal.
Of course, this is perfectly normal for a robot, but it would be bad if other humans discovered it.
The little robot changed its clothes while reflecting on its actions:
The reaction speed isn't fast enough; we need to allocate some energy to upgrade this part of the program. At the very least, we need to ensure that this kind of thing doesn't happen under human noses again.
Changing clothes was quick; the old clothes were put back in the warehouse, and the little robot squatted down in front of the zombie on the ground, examining it with great interest.
This is a unique product of this world. I'm so curious about what it is and why it moves even though it has no signs of life. Humans say it's a kind of "zombie poison," but what are its components and how can it transform into two extremes: zombies and superhumans?
One question after another popped into his mind. After thinking for a while, the little robot couldn't resist and reached out.
In the blink of an eye, the zombies on the ground vanished.
The little robot looked at the extra zombie in its recycling bin and smiled contentedly.
Yes, he put the zombies into the warehouse.
Hmm... Strictly speaking, this can also be considered a type of "garbage," can't it?
Fortunately, the little robot knew that now was not the right time to slowly study the zombies. He clapped his hands, stood up, and began to search the house.
The fact that there's a zombie hiding behind the door of this house suggests that the contents of the house have most likely not been disturbed.
Sure enough, apart from some things being knocked over in a panic, the whole house was not disturbed much.
The little robot doesn't discriminate; it starts right from the entrance, collecting all sorts of things—tables, benches, even those missing limbs—into the recycling bin.
This included the bed and clothes in the bedroom, the refrigerator and dishes in the kitchen, and even the basins, buckets, brooms and mops in the toilet. Everything was put away in one go.
Of course, he did a simple sorting before putting things away.
The most basic thing is to separate what is still usable from what is not.
The clothes, utensils, and rice, flour, oil, etc. that hadn't expired yet were all piled up.
These small robots will be given to the humans outside after they reunite.
After all, he himself is a robot and doesn't actually need to eat; it's the humans who need these things more.
As for the remaining unusable items, such as rotten and smelly vegetables and food, powdered plastic furniture, broken appliances, etc., they are naturally left in the recycling bin and belong to the category of true "garbage," which will be further processed later.
The search proceeded without any unexpected incidents, and the little robot cleaned each room one by one.
This small village had only about twenty households, and it was quickly ransacked. The items that others had found were piled up on the large stone dam in the center, waiting for the little robot to collect them all into the warehouse.
The group returned home with a full load of goods.
The truck didn't encounter any danger either. When the little robots returned, they even saw Zhao Conglu and the others who stayed behind skinning a mutated red rabbit that was half a person's height.
"Wow, we actually caught a red rabbit! Its meat is delicious and its fur is warm, it's a real gem!" Liu Jiaqing was the first to rush over, marveling at its speed. "But it's incredibly fast! Sister Lu, how did you catch it?"
At this point, everyone looked at the little robot with gratitude.
Zhao Conglu gave the little robot a thumbs up: "If it weren't for Brother Ji's protective shield, how could we have caught this thing? This shield is amazing! It can stop the rabbit from charging at full speed without any fluctuation. If we hadn't heard the noise, we wouldn't have been able to react!"
The others nodded in agreement: "Yeah, yeah, goodness, this is the first time I've ever seen a red-haired rabbit knock itself unconscious. Is this the silly rabbit from the doomsday story of waiting for a rabbit to run into a tree stump? Hahahaha!"
In just a few words, the story succinctly and clearly illustrates how this unfortunate red rabbit fell into the clutches of humans.
Liu Jiaqing felt a pang of regret for not staying to witness the scene firsthand.
However, they gained a lot from this trip.
Liu Jiaqing quickly called the bigwigs over to show everyone the fruits of their labor.
The little robot, with an exceptionally good temperament, let Liu Jiaqing lead it to an open space and release the pile of supplies.
Besides what Lin Jian and his team found, there were also parts that he himself found that were usable by humans.
Suddenly, a huge pile of things was laid out in front of them, much to the delight of the surrounding crowd, who couldn't help but cheer.
After that, Captain Lin Jian took stock of the supplies and distributed them to everyone according to the team's rules.
The little robot didn't join in the fun; instead, it found an empty seat nearby and sat down, fiddling with what it was holding.
When Jia Chao came over to let the big boss collect his share of the supplies as Lin Jian instructed, he saw this scene.
Looking at the complex tools in the boss's hands, and that part that he couldn't recognize at all, he could only think that the boss was indeed a boss.
Then, unable to contain his curiosity, he cautiously asked, "Boss, what are you doing?"
Based on his interactions with the big shot over the past half-day, he felt that this person had a very good temper and shouldn't get angry.
Sure enough, the little robot wasn't angry.
He didn't even try to hide the question, and when Jia Chao asked him, he honestly explained, "I'm making a personal version of a magic tool, a protective shield."
Jia Chao: "!"
He's definitely a master!
Jia Chao was dumbfounded: "The protective shield... the boss made it himself?!"
My goodness, who exactly is this big shot? Could he be some national-level researcher who has been exiled?
