Chapter 1 Who stole her chicken?

"You son of a bitch, you don't have any at home, do you? You have to steal my chickens. If I catch you, I'll chop off your hands, you jinx!"

"I'll tell you who it is, you fucking pretend you don't know. You stole my chickens, why don't you just choke to death!"

"So, you're an adult with hands and feet, and all you do is steal, huh? No wonder you were born of a mother but have no father to raise you!"

Inside a dilapidated thatched hut, Chen Feng listened to the women outside making veiled insults, completely bewildered.

He was sleeping soundly at home, completely unaware of what was happening, and when he opened his eyes, he found himself here.

Before long, a memory flooded his mind, and he realized what had happened.

This is a parallel world similar to my past life. Everything is almost the same as in my past life, except that the familiar people are gone.

The world has fallen into a severe financial crisis, with an unemployment rate as high as 78 percent and wages several times lower than before.

Nowadays, college graduates are fighting tooth and nail for a dozen or so jobs that pay only 1,200 yuan a month. The rest either have to find their own way to make a living or stay at home and rely on their parents.

Unfortunately, Chen Feng is a college graduate who just graduated last year.

He thought that after graduating, he could make a name for himself and provide a good life for his mother.

Unexpectedly, reality dealt him a heavy blow. Chen Feng never recovered and became a street urchin, smoking and drinking every day, just drifting through life aimlessly.

Yesterday, I finally drank half a jin of baijiu (Chinese liquor) and ate some chicken from who-knows-where, and drank myself to death.

While he was still in a daze, a voice rang in his mind.

"Host successfully transmigrated. Gold Miner System activated!"

"Detects metals: gold, silver (upgradeable)."

Detection radius: three meters (upgradeable).

"Detection depth: 20 centimeters (upgradeable)."

Other features: Not yet enabled.

"System upgrades require monetary value, which is equal to the money earned from the metals the host finds."

Chen Feng studied it for a long time before he finally understood how the system worked.

Simply put, the system helps him mine for gold, and he gets points for the money he makes from selling the gold, which he then uses to upgrade the system.

"This is basically making myself a gold digger..." Chen Feng said, stroking his chin.

In his previous life, he had only ever seen others panning for gold on television; he never imagined that one day he would become a gold prospector himself.

Just as he was lost in thought, he heard footsteps outside the door, and a moment later someone opened the door and came in.

A woman walked in. Her clothes were old but clean. Although time had left its mark on her face, one could still vaguely tell that she had been a stunning beauty in her youth.

She is Chen Feng's mother, Liu Ping.

The two women looked at each other, and the atmosphere became somewhat awkward. Liu Ping finally sighed, her eyes filled with heartache, and began to tidy up the cigarette boxes and wine bottles on the kang (a heated brick bed).

"Did you steal Old Wang's chickens?" Liu Ping asked, holding up the trash can.

Chen Feng looked at the bowl of chicken on the kang (a heated brick bed), paused for a moment, and said, "If I said it wasn't me, would you believe me?"

"What's the use of me believing or not? Old Wang's family has to believe."

"Besides, if you hadn't stolen them, none of our chickens would be missing. Where did the chickens on your kang come from?" Liu Ping asked Chen Feng helplessly.

"It...maybe it couldn't think straight and committed suicide," Chen Feng said with a laugh.

He'd only been in this world for ten minutes, and now he'd been framed and blamed. Who could he complain to?

"Sigh, don't steal anymore. I know you're retaliating because you can't stand Wang's wife gossiping about you behind your back."

"Let her talk if she wants to. Just pretend you don't know. It's not like it'll hurt you." Liu Ping took a rag, shooed Chen Feng off the bed, and started wiping the kang (a heated brick bed).

"By the way, your uncle called me yesterday."

Liu Ping turned to look at Chen Feng.

Mentioning his uncle, Chen Feng recalled this person.

He was his maternal uncle, his mother's younger brother.

That guy was a bit arrogant, especially after his son found a job with a monthly salary of two thousand, he became incredibly cocky.

Every time he brings it up, he praises his son at length, and then, in the tone of an elder, he gives Chen Feng a stern lecture.

He especially scolded his mother, saying that she spoiled him, that spoiling a child is like killing a child, that Chen Feng was ruined, and that she would regret it someday.

His own mother was always scolded in front of him until she couldn't lift her head and could only sigh repeatedly.

Chen Feng couldn't help but roll his eyes when he thought of his uncle's smug and arrogant face.

Why do you keep babbling about your own family's business? It's none of your business.

"What did that bastard say?" Chen Feng asked irritably as he brought it up.

Upon hearing this, Liu Ping turned around and looked at Chen Feng with a reproachful expression, and said.

"You child, he is, after all, your uncle, and he is doing it for your own good. How can you be so disrespectful, calling him 'diao mao'? I don't know where you learned that from."

After saying that, Liu Ping paused, sighed and said, "That bastard said he'll find you a job as a security guard under his son. It'll be eight hundred yuan a month, which is better than you idling around all day."

Upon hearing this, Chen Feng couldn't help but snort, his smile somewhat mocking, "He did that for my own good, didn't he? It's because his son is a security captain and can't find anyone for 800 yuan a month, so he remembered me."

“Even if I earn six hundred from someone else, I wouldn’t earn eight hundred from his son.”

"If he really goes, he'll be driven crazy with malice later."

Liu Ping understood this reasoning, but Chen Feng's behavior at home wasn't a good thing.

She didn't expect Chen Feng to earn much money; even just having something to do was better than staying home drinking every day.

“Actually, what your uncle said makes sense. Why don’t you go work there for two months?” Liu Ping couldn’t help but suggest.

"Forget it, I'll figure something out myself." Chen Feng shook his head and refused. Now that he had the system, why would he still be a security guard?

At that time, let alone 800 a month, even 800 a day will be easy.

"Fine, if you don't want to go, then don't go." Liu Ping never forced Chen Feng to do anything. Since he didn't want to go, that was fine. They could find something else to do later.

"Oh, right, Mom, could you give me some money?" Chen Feng suddenly remembered and asked.

Even if he didn't do it, he's seen it.

Gold panning requires metal detectors and a range of other equipment.

I have nothing right now, and I can't just pan for gold empty-handed; I need to get some tools first.

"Have you spent all the money I gave you last time?" Liu Ping asked Chen Feng with a helpless look.

Upon hearing this, Chen Feng scratched his head somewhat embarrassedly. It was indeed a little awkward for someone his age to still be asking his family for money.

"Spend money wisely, and drink less alcohol; it's not good stuff." Liu Ping took out some paper bills from her pocket, counted a few, and handed them to Chen Feng.
