Chapter 17 A loving father and a filial son

Upon hearing this, Liu Ming got into bed and turned off the light, but he was far from sleepy, his mind preoccupied with Chen Feng, tossing and turning and unable to fall asleep.

"No, you're making pancakes, can't you just go to sleep?"

Yao Li said impatiently.

"Still making pancakes? I'd rather make pancakes for you." Liu Ming muttered irritably.

Zheng Ping returned home, washed his face thoroughly with some water, and his wife Mao Min heated up some food for him in the kitchen.

After he finished washing up and the food was heated up, Mao Min sat down at the table to eat with him and asked, "How was today?"

"Not bad. I found a pretty big piece of silver today and sold it for fifty or sixty yuan." Zheng Ping dipped it in sauce and ate half a scallion in one bite.

"Oh, that's great! How much money did you make last month?" Mao Min asked in surprise.

"Eight hundred and eighty. After deducting the fare I gave Huang Fei, I made a total of over five hundred yuan." Zheng Ping took the money out of his pocket and handed it to his wife.

"Five hundred yuan is a bit little, but it's alright. At least I'll be free, and it won't interfere with the housework. I can go shopping for free whenever I have time." Mao Min took the money, counted it, sighed, and thought for a moment before saying this.

"What about Fengzi? Do you think he can last long? Does he have the makings of a gold digger?" Mao Min asked. Chen Feng had always been famous, and she was very curious about whether he could last long.

"Huh, him?"

“Even if you let him go panning for gold by himself tomorrow, he’ll probably go anyway. You won’t be able to stop him,” Zheng Ping said with a smile.

"Oh, does he really enjoy this job? I thought he would complain about how tiring it was and not like it anymore," Mao Min said, quite surprised.

“If you could earn 1,700 a day and still enjoy this line of work, you’d be willing to go even if it were a knife falling from the sky,” Zheng Ping said, pursing his lips.

"What the heck, 1700?"

"You mean Chen Feng earned 1,700 today?" Mao Min asked in shock, her face filled with disbelief.

"Of course! What do you think? That kid's got some good luck. He made a whole bottle of silver in one day, and even found a piece of gold before he got on the train."

"Wow, that piece of gold is so big, it must weigh more than three grams. This is the first time I've ever seen someone pan for such a large piece of gold."

Zheng Ping held up two fingers to indicate the length, saying that even now, he still finds it unbelievable.

"My God, I never imagined he was so wealthy in this industry. Goodness, he earns almost as much in one day as you do in three months," Mao Min said in a daze.

"Of course! We're all so envious. I've been panning for so long and I've only found gold once, and it was only 1.5 grams."

“They found more than three grams of gold on their first day. How can you argue with that?” Zheng Ping stood up and poured himself a bowl of rice.

“Okay, that’s good. It doesn’t matter how much money he makes, as long as he can work properly, it’s better than him just wandering around aimlessly before.” Mao Min nodded and said.

"That's right. Fengzi is actually a very good person and quite particular. It's just that he didn't do his job properly before. We couldn't really say anything to him before, we could only give him a few words of advice and let it go."

"Seeing him like this now, I'm quite happy," Zheng Ping said with a smile.

"Okay, you two do a good job this time. You can also benefit from his good fortune and try to earn an extra two hundred next month," Mao Min said with a smile.

“Okay, I’ll learn from him how he finds so much, and why I can find so much while I only have so little,” Zheng Ping joked.

After all, there are no skills involved in gold panning; it's all about luck, and there's nothing to learn from it.

When Song Hui returned home, he tossed the metal detector aside in a corner and sat down at the table with a sullen expression.

"What's wrong? Why are you throwing things around as soon as you get back?" His father came out when he heard the noise, wearing a green camouflage jacket.

"Damn it, how come Chen Feng is so lucky, but I don't have that kind of luck?" Song Hui cursed angrily.

"What's up? Did that kid find something good today?" His father asked as he walked over, rolling a cigarette in his hand.

"Do you know how much money this kid made today? Seventeen thousand!"

"Holy crap, what incredible luck! He bought a whole bottle of silver, can you believe it?" Song Hui spat.

"How much?" Upon hearing this, Song Hui's father's hand trembled as he rolled the cigarette. He forgot all about rolling the cigarette and hurriedly looked up to ask.

"Seventeen thousand!" Song Hui took the tobacco box and rolled one up himself.

"My God, this kid made 1,700 in one day, isn't that a fortune?" Song Hui's father exclaimed in astonishment.

He thought Chen Feng's sales would only earn him two or three hundred a day at most, which would be quite a lot.

Who would have thought this kid actually made 1,700? That's outrageous!

Among the gold prospectors in the surrounding villages, I've never heard of anyone earning 1,700 a day.

"Who says otherwise? I heard she didn't even go home just now, she went straight to Lu Dahai's house to buy things, she really hit the jackpot." Song Hui said with a rather sour tone.

"And you, how much do you earn?" Song Hui's father asked.

"Thirty, fucking." Song Hui lit a cigarette, took a drag, and cursed.

"Hey, how come some people are so lucky while you're so unlucky? Didn't you ask him how he found the goods? Could you learn from him and see if he has any special methods?" Song Hui's father said, puzzled.

"What special method could he possibly have? He pans for gold like a horse dancing, sliding back and forth. Who's a good person who pans for gold like that?"

"Unexpectedly, he just kept slipping back and forth, and actually managed to get the goods. It's really strange," Song Hui said, exhaling a puff of smoke.

"That's not some kind of formation, is it? I've heard of the Five Ghosts Transporting Wealth Method, is that what it is?" Song Hui's father said excitedly, slamming his hand on the table.

"You should stop reading those pirated books. You're always trying to make money at home, but I haven't seen anything come of it."

“I’ve done my research online. Gold mining is all about luck and experience. What experience could a newbie like him have? It’s just pure luck.”

"If we're talking about experience, I'm his ancestor. I've read online what places have the most goods and where to go, but I haven't told anyone else," Song Hui snorted.

“You’re so experienced, how come you only earn thirty yuan? It’s still pretty useless,” Song Hui’s father retorted.

It's his fault for saying that all the feng shui he usually studies is useless.

Song Hui was speechless after being rebuked, staring wide-eyed at his father.

"Go to sleep already. I have nothing to say to you. You don't understand anything. You should go back to studying your lousy books." Song Hui waved his hand impatiently and went into the house.

"Go to sleep if you want to. I didn't see what use that thing you were researching was." Song Hui's father walked halfway, then turned back to pick up his tobacco box before returning to the house.

After his father went inside, Song Hui came out, boiled some water, and took out two bags of Huafeng Sanxian noodles, preparing to soak them in hot water and eat them.

Meanwhile, Huang Fei finally finished bragging at the convenience store and returned home with half a pack of cigarettes.
