Chapter 240 Duoduo

Finally, around 10 p.m., Chen Feng drove his car into the old man's village.

The old man's village looked similar to Chen Feng's.

After pulling the old man's car into the yard, Chen Feng got out of the car, removed the hook, and then took a quick look at the old man's house.

The old man's house was a thatched hut, which looked similar to Chen Feng's old house, or even more dilapidated.

The yard was piled with miscellaneous items, all sorts of junk.

Chen Feng looked at the thatched house with some puzzlement. Logically speaking, the old man had earned quite a bit of money, not to mention that he had been panning for gold for decades. Building a brick house shouldn't be a difficult task for him, right?

Why are they still living in thatched huts?

However, Chen Feng didn't think too much about it; each family's situation was different.

Chen Feng could only get to the abandoned mine in the hills in the middle of the night, and all he wanted to do was get back as soon as possible.

The old man got out of the car and, seeing that Chen Feng was about to leave, quickly grabbed Chen Feng's hand and said something.

"Child, don't go yet, come inside and have some food."

"No, sir, I'm not very hungry. Please come inside and eat. I have to get back soon." Chen Feng shook his head and refused.

"No, no, no, I had your aunt prepare a meal on my way here. Please have a hot meal before you go."

“If you walk now, it will be midnight before you reach the abandoned mine, and you will definitely be hungry on the way.”

"I haven't had a hot meal in the abandoned mine. This is homemade, so please have a bite. Otherwise, I'll feel really bad that you've helped me so much and I'm letting you go hungry."

"It won't take long to eat, child."

The old man sincerely advised him, his cloudy eyes showing some emotion, and he pulled Chen Feng's hand tightly.

Looking at the old man, Chen Feng could feel his sincerity, so he took a breath and nodded.

It won't take long to have a meal, and besides, we'll arrive around midnight anyway, so a little extra time won't make a difference.

"Alright, then I'll trouble you, Auntie," Chen Feng said.

"Alright, alright, come inside quickly, your aunt has already prepared dinner."

The old man laughed upon hearing this and pulled Chen Feng into the house.

He was afraid that Chen Feng would really leave like that, and he would feel really uneasy about it.

Upon entering the house, Chen Feng noticed that the layout was similar to his own home, except that this house was much larger.

An elderly woman with gray hair came out of the house when she heard the noise. She was wearing old clothes. If there was anything in common between her and the old man, it was that she was just as thin as him.

"Child, come inside quickly, the food is in the pot, it's still warm, I'll serve it out now." The old woman clapped her hands and busily began to fill bowls with the food, as if afraid of delaying Chen Feng's time.

"It's alright, it's alright, Auntie, I'm not hungry, I'm not in a hurry," Chen Feng quickly said with a smile.

"No, it's so late, you must be hungry. Come inside, kid. You don't need to. I've already cleared the dishes." The old lady urged Chen Feng.

"Hey, hey, where can I wash my hands? I need to wash them." Chen Feng searched for a sink in the room.

"It's right next to the door of that house, there's soap and clean water inside." The old lady pointed to the house opposite and carried the dishes into the house.

The old man turned and left the house, seemingly to tidy up something.

Chen Feng arrived at the basin. The water in the basin was indeed clean, indicating that the old lady had prepared it for him in advance.

Chen Feng wet his hands, then picked up the soap and rubbed them. After washing, he picked up the towel draped over the stool and dried himself.

The towel was already frayed at the edges and was shedding fibers.

The room in front of him opened a crack, and Chen Feng, wiping his hands with a towel, subconsciously peeked inside.

This one glance made Chen Feng freeze in place, his hands stopping in their tracks.

There was a small bed in the room, covered with pink sheets, and a little girl was lying on it.

A drip bag hung above the girl's bed, connected to her right hand. If Chen Feng wasn't mistaken, two alarming tubes extended from the girl's abdomen.

The girl seemed to notice someone at the door. She gently raised her head and saw Chen Feng's face.

Surprisingly, she showed no surprise or unusual reaction, but instead smiled at Chen Feng.

The girl was very pretty, with two little braids, and looked exactly like the girl in the old man's family photo.

Chen Feng stood there stunned for a long time, staring blankly at the scene. Seeing that the girl did not react strangely, Chen Feng pursed his lips, put the towel back in its place, and gently opened the door and went in.

"Hi, how are you?" Chen Feng walked over gently, a bright smile on his face, his voice even a little softer.

The girl smiled again as she watched Chen Feng approach.

Hello, brother!

There was a worn-out old-fashioned wooden stool next to the girl's bed. Chen Feng pulled it over and sat down next to the girl's bed.

The girl's voice was thin, her lips were pale, and her face was bloodless.

But her eyes were very bright, and she looked at Chen Feng with curiosity.

"Hello, what's your name?" Chen Feng asked the girl with a bright smile, moving slightly closer.

“My name is Duoduo,” the girl replied obediently.

"Oh, your name is Duoduo. You knew I was coming, so why aren't you surprised at all?" Chen Feng's voice was incredibly gentle, as if he was afraid of frightening the girl.

“I knew you were coming. My grandma told me that grandpa’s car broke down and an older boy would be coming back with it in a little while.”

The girl tilted her head on the bed and chuckled.

"Ah, so you already knew. You're amazing! No wonder you weren't surprised at all," Chen Feng praised.

"Hey~"

The girl laughed heartily upon hearing this, tilting her head slightly in embarrassment before quickly turning back.

Chen Feng finally saw clearly that the two tubes did indeed extend from the girl's abdomen, and they looked shocking.

There were other things connected to the two ends of the pipe, but Chen Feng didn't recognize them. He didn't dare to look closely in front of the girl, afraid that doing so would hurt her.

At this moment, the old man pushed open the girl's door and peeked out.

"Duoduo~"

"Grandpa~"

The girl's eyes lit up instantly when she saw the old man, and she couldn't wait to call out to him.

"Hey, hehe."

The old man smiled at Duoduo, and then said softly to Chen Feng, "Child, the food is ready, come and eat."

"Okay, I'm not hungry. You eat first. I'll chat with Duoduo for a bit more, okay, Duoduo?" Chen Feng said, turning around, and then smiled at Duoduo.

Seeing this, Duoduo smiled shyly. She hadn't met any outsiders in a long time, and she was especially happy that someone was willing to play with her for a while.

"Um."

Seeing this, the old man didn't say anything and left the house.

Seeing that the old man had left, Chen Feng turned back and teased Duoduo with a smile.

"Isn't Grandpa annoying? He always has to bother us at times like this."

Chen Feng thought she would nod in agreement, but to his surprise, she shook her head with a smile on her face.
