Chapter 44 I know

"I know he must have something on his mind, otherwise he wouldn't have helped me for no reason."

"Anyway, I didn't lose anything. Let's see what he's up to," Chen Feng said, lighting a cigarette.

"Besides, if you think he's a bad person just because he's greedy, then where incorruptible officials are there in the world? Aren't they all like that?"

"Every man for himself, or the world will destroy him; that's understandable."

Upon hearing this, Liu Ping rolled her eyes and said, "I'm warning you, he has a powerful background, but it's not clean. Don't get involved with him."

"Just focus on your gold mining, and don't listen to anything he tells you to do."

Upon hearing this, Chen Feng chuckled and said, "I'm not stupid. Do you think I'd do whatever he tells me to do?"

"He helped me this time, so shouldn't we give him something in return to repay the favor? Otherwise, it wouldn't be right."

"What a load of crap, who told him to help you out of boredom?" Liu Ping said irritably.

Chen Feng sensed something was off and looked at his mother. Normally, even if Chen Feng didn't mean anything by it, she would still ask him to buy something and show it to the village chief's family.

Why are you so resistant this time?

"Mom, what's wrong? Why do you look down on Ma Liang so much?" Chen Feng asked, puzzled.

"I don't care about him at all. Back when our family was dividing up the land, he refused to give us any good land, insisting on giving us the land by the ditch. That land has been washed away by the floods over the years, leaving only two rows of ridges."

"What is that?" Liu Ping was furious as soon as she brought it up.

Hearing this, Chen Feng sighed helplessly. This land issue was a real worry for his mother, and she would scold the village chief every time it was brought up.

Indeed, that land is really bad. Over the years, it has been eroded by water and shrunk smaller and smaller. Whoever gets it would complain.

“One thing at a time. He helped me this time, so we should go and see him, both morally and logically,” Chen Feng advised.

Liu Ping knew what was going on, so she tacitly approved of Chen Feng's actions and let him give it to her.

Chen Feng also had some doubts. Could it be that the village chief was helping him this time in order to ease the tension from back then?

Logically speaking, someone as important as the village chief shouldn't need to do this, right?

Chen Feng decided to keep a close eye on things when he went to his house in the afternoon to see what was going on.

They took the money and went to Lu Dahai's house. As soon as they entered, the voices of everyone inside became much quieter.

Their eyes were full of gossip; they wanted to ask Chen Feng what was going on, but they didn't dare to.

"Give me a case of beer and two Ganoderma lucidum mushrooms."

The village chief has smoked this cigarette his whole life; buying better ones is useless.

"One hundred and twenty in total."

After Lu Dahai finished getting it for him, he mouthed a question to Chen Feng in a low voice.

"Should we deliver it to the village chief?"

Seeing this, Chen Feng nodded and didn't hide it from Lu Dahai.

“Okay, we should go take a look.” Lu Dahai nodded.

Chen Feng found out 520 yuan and handed it to Lu Dahai.

"You go and deliver the money to Old Wang's family later, I won't go."

Lu Dahai took the money and nodded, indicating that there was no problem.

Chen Feng left with his things, and the people inside couldn't help but say, "Chen Feng is really ruthless. That guy got beaten up by Old Wang's wife; his face is all swollen from the slaps."

"The glass was completely shattered; it scared me to look at it."

Lu Dahai laughed when he heard this and said, "Old Wang's wife thought Chen Feng wouldn't make a move, but she didn't expect Chen Feng to not even bother with her for long."

"What's the use of being eloquent? Can you out-argue someone's slap?"

Everyone laughed when they heard this, and it was true.

Old Wang's wife thought no one could scold her, but she didn't expect Chen Feng to be so uncivilized and attack her directly.

Who could stand this?

Lu Dahai asked his wife to come out and watch the shop while he prepared to send the money to Old Wang's family.

When I arrived at Old Wang's house with the money, I found Old Wang and his wife cleaning up broken glass. After I went in, Old Wang looked up and spoke first.

"Old Lu is here."

"Yes, I'm bringing you the money. It's money Chen Feng gave you." Lu Dahai took out four hundred yuan from his pocket and handed it to Lao Wang.

Old Wang's wife snorted and said, "Damn it, Chen Feng got away with this. If the village chief hadn't intervened, I would have sent him to jail for a few days."

"That little bastard has gone too far."

She's just trying to save face, otherwise she'd really lose too much of her dignity.

Lu Dahai laughed and said, "Of course, Chen Feng is young after all, it's understandable."

He should just say nice things to her. Would Lu Dahai really dare to argue with Lao Wang's wife at this time?

As he spoke, Lu Dahai glanced at Old Wang's wife's face.

Those handprints were still clearly visible, and he couldn't help but click his tongue in amazement.

"Chen Feng really went all out, but to be honest, well done!"

Seeing that nothing was wrong, Lu Dahai was about to leave when he said goodbye.

"I'm leaving now. Call me if you need anything."

"Okay, take it easy," Old Wang called out.

After he left, Old Wang's wife looked at the shattered window and cursed, "Damn it, you smashed my window! If you're so tough, why don't you smash mine? What kind of person are you?"

Old Wang rolled his eyes in exasperation and completely ignored her.

If you're so good, why did you run away just now? Just stand there and let Chen Feng smash you.

"What should we do about the windows? Who can we get to fix them?" Old Wang's wife asked, looking at Old Wang who hadn't said a word.

"I'll go to the county tomorrow and buy a few panes of glass, then I'll buy some glass glue and apply it myself."

"How much money do you charge them to come? This way you can save a lot," Old Wang said after doing some calculations.

"Fine, if you ask me, Chen Feng has to come and fix it for me, damn it," Old Wang's wife said angrily.

"Go and talk to him," Old Wang said as he carried a basin of broken glass out of the house.

"Hey, what do you mean? You think I wouldn't dare?" Old Wang's wife immediately bristled upon hearing this, pointing at Old Wang and shrieking.

"You dare? I didn't say you wouldn't dare. There's nothing you wouldn't dare to do," Old Wang said calmly in the yard.

Old Wang's cryptic words infuriated his wife, who felt like throwing glass at him.

"Go to hell, you coward, you can't even get hard. Your own wife got beaten up, and you don't even dare to fight back."

"How could I have married such a good-for-nothing! You're utterly useless!"

Old Wang ignored the insults in the yard, treating them as if they were singing; he was used to it.

On the other side, Chen Feng arrived at the village chief's house carrying some things.

The village chief's house was indeed large. While other houses had their yards paved with compacted earth or bricks, his house was plastered with cement. It had four large tiled rooms with a second floor.

The warehouse next door is bigger than a typical house, and there's a car worth over 100,000 yuan parked in the yard.

"Auntie, is Uncle home?" Chen Feng carried his things into the house and saw the village chief's wife sweeping the floor.

"Xiaofeng's here! Come on in, your uncle's home." The village chief's wife looked up and smiled, then went back inside and called out.

"Old Ma, Xiao Feng is here."

After he finished speaking, the sound of someone walking in slippers was heard.
