After saying that, Chen Feng took a melted popsicle and went out the door, intending to find Zheng Ping and ask him if he had any plans to pan for gold tomorrow.
When Chen Feng arrived at Zheng Ping's house, he pushed open the door and went inside. As soon as he entered, he saw Mao Min tinkering with the flower pots on the ground, but he didn't see Zheng Ping.
"Sister-in-law, where's Brother Zheng? I need to talk to him about something." Chen Feng stood at the door, craning his neck to look around and asked.
"Fengzi, your brother Zheng has gone to the fields. Should I call him and ask him to come back?" Mao Min straightened up and saw Chen Feng, so she couldn't help but answer.
"Go to the ground? What are you going to do there so late at night? What can you see in the dark?" Chen Feng was puzzled by this.
"Hey, they heard you dug up gold on the ground, and now they can't sit still. They're all running to the ground with detectors, all wanting to try their luck," Mao Min said with a helpless smile.
"Ah, you all knew?" Chen Feng said, surprised.
The helpers were all from the next village. Chen Feng never expected that the news could be transmitted back from the next village in such a short time.
Goodness, your intelligence network is a bit outrageous.
“Hey, we already knew before it even got dark. Come in and sit down. I’ll send him a WeChat message to come back,” Mao Min said, picking up her phone.
Upon hearing this, Chen Feng went inside. He was prepared to leave without even going inside if Zheng Ping wasn't planning to come back.
There's nothing wrong during the day, but it's a bit inappropriate for Mao Min to be home alone late at night.
After sending the WeChat message, Mao Min looked up at Chen Feng, her eyes filled with disbelief, and said, "You really found gold while you were turning over the soil?"
To be honest, Mao Min didn't quite believe it when she first heard the news.
This is just too exaggerated. Everyone tills the land every year, but I've never heard of anyone finding gold while tilling the land. It's too outrageous.
After hearing so many people say it in such detail, she finally dared to believe it was true.
She was only willing to believe it because Chen Feng was the one who found the gold; she would never have believed it if it were anyone else.
Chen Feng now seems to think that no matter where they find gold, it's perfectly normal.
No one else could.
Chen Feng, that makes sense!
"I think I saw some gold when I was turning over the soil, but I wasn't sure. I turned over for a long time but couldn't find it. Later, I went home and got the detector and finally found it."
"I didn't expect it to actually be a piece of gold," Chen Feng said with a smile.
"You're really lucky! You can find gold even when you're just turning over the soil. I've been turning over the soil for over ten years and all I ever get is garbage," Mao Min chuckled.
"It's not time yet, but we'll be able to flip it over when the time comes," Chen Feng said with a smile.
"How long has Brother Zheng been gone?" Chen Feng asked.
"It's been more than an hour. You have no idea, after these people found out you found gold in the field, they all went crazy. They all rushed to their own fields with their detectors."
"I'm afraid that someone else will steal the gold from my land. I heard that some people were just about to eat, but when they heard about this, they didn't even finish their meal. They just put down their chopsticks and left." Mao Min found it funny just thinking about it.
"That's outrageous?"
Chen Feng couldn't help but chuckle upon hearing Mao Min's words.
He never expected that finding gold in the field would cause such a sensation.
It seems that the last time I panned for gold in the river, it inspired a group of them to go and soak in the river as well.
This time too, I went to pan for gold in the fields late at night, not afraid at all in the dark.
Rural areas are nothing like cities. There are no streetlights or any other lights. It's truly dark when it's dark, the kind where you can't see your hand in front of your face.
“It’s not just outrageous, it’s absolutely outrageous. Some greedy old men and women go to the ground to dig even without a detector, hoping to strike it rich and find gold.”
"It's funny to even think about it," Mao Min said, shaking her head with a laugh.
"Has anyone found out?" Chen Feng asked curiously.
"There really was one, but it was just a small silver coin, worth about ten dollars. Even so, that person was overjoyed."
"With this silver coin as an incentive, I reckon he won't be able to go home to sleep tonight; he'll have to dig all night," Mao Min said with a shrug.
"There really is some goods, so the search wasn't in vain," Chen Feng said, somewhat surprised.
"Hey, don't you think about it? So many people went out to explore for so long, and all they got was a single silver coin. Is that considered a lot of work?" Mao Min rolled her eyes and said.
"It's better than the last time we went to the river. Last time, the whole group of us didn't find anything, and several of the detectors even broke down." Chen Feng couldn't help but laugh as he mentioned it.
"That's true. This time it's just a bit tiring, but at least the detector will be fine."
"But I have to thank you, if you hadn't reminded Brother Zheng, he would have spent the whole night in the river too," Mao Min said with great agreement.
"You're too kind, sister-in-law. Only Brother Zheng is willing to listen to me. If I tell other people, they'll think I don't want them to go and investigate, or that I'm cutting off their source of income," Chen Feng said, throwing his empty popsicle into the trash can.
After sitting for about ten minutes, Zheng Ping pushed the door open and came in. As soon as he entered, he sighed. Chen Feng didn't need to ask to know that he hadn't found out anything.
"How did it go? Did you find anything?" Mao Min asked him when he returned.
"Don't even mention it. I didn't see a single piece of metal. It was so dark that I was really worried. When you sent me that WeChat message, it gave me a fright," Zheng Ping said speechlessly.
"Old Sun was luckier; he found a silver nugget, and he got a little carried away and blurted it out."
"Now look what's happened. He was afraid that if he went to sleep, someone would sneakily explore his land, so the whole family came out, determined not to stop until they had explored the land completely," Zheng Ping said with a laugh as he put down the detector.
“Okay, more people means less fear,” Chen Feng grinned.
"That's true, now you don't have to be afraid. What's up, Fengzi? What do you need?" Zheng Ping sat down, took out a cigarette from his pocket, and offered one to Chen Feng.
"I was just wondering if you're going to go gold panning for days since you haven't been for a while. I was wondering if you're planning to go tomorrow, and if you have any plans?" Chen Feng said, taking the cigarette.
“I was thinking of contacting someone tonight, but I didn’t expect you to come directly. You’re probably going there, since we’ve already searched these places, and there’s nothing else to do.”
"It's been a few days since we last visited, and everyone's itching to go. Huang Fei shouldn't be so busy tomorrow; I'll contact him later," Zheng Ping said, taking a drag of his cigarette.
“Okay, let me know after you’ve made the call,” Chen Feng said.
"No problem, definitely. By the way, Fengzi, how big was that gold you panned for this morning? I heard it was as big as a pebble?" Zheng Ping asked, somewhat incredulously.
"No way, don't listen to their nonsense. It's about the same size as the one we found in the river last time, even as big as a pebble. How much would that sell for?" Chen Feng chuckled.
