Chapter 639 The Force Is a Bit Strong

Chapter 639 The Force Is a Bit Strong

"So you went home? Has everyone gone home?" The village chief pointed aimlessly and asked.

“Most of the leaders have left. We’re just doing geological exploration, so there’s no use for us here,” Chen Feng said, clinking glasses with him.

"Then... you really won't come back?" the village chief asked again, confirming the question.

"I'm not coming back. What's the point of coming back?" Chen Feng hissed. This liquor had a bit of an alcohol content.

The village chief was in a state of confusion; for the first time, he had panicked, a stark contrast to his usual calm demeanor.

The group continued drinking and chatting, but Chen Feng could tell that the village chief was now distracted.

"Alright, we've had our fill, brother, we'll head back now. It's getting late, you should rest too." Chen Feng said, standing up as he saw that it was about time.

"Hey, what time is it? Let's have some more. I still have some wine. Or how about some beer?" The village chief said, grabbing Chen Feng's hand.

Before he could finish speaking, how could the village chief let Chen Feng leave?

"I can't drink anymore. Let's drink until we're satisfied, but we can't drink until we pass out. Besides, I have to pack my things and go home tomorrow. You can't let me not be able to go home."

"Haha, I appreciate your kindness, brother. Please sit down. We'll be going now, and we'll meet again sometime." Chen Feng pressed the village chief into a chair, clasped his hands in a fist salute, and forcibly left with Li Chunlai.

“This…” The village chief looked at their backs, leaning back in his chair, his mind in turmoil.

"What's wrong? What's going on? I heard him say that a guidance team is coming," the village chief's wife asked, coming out of the house with a worried look on her face.

"That's what they say, but who knows if it's true or not? But do you dare to gamble? If I lose, I'll be doomed." The village chief poured out the last bit of liquor in the bottle and drank it all in one gulp.

"What should we do? How did this get so big? Wasn't it supposed to be just an economic dispute? Why is the guidance team coming?" The village chief's wife was also panicked.

If you told an ordinary citizen that the guidance team had arrived, they certainly wouldn't react much; they might even clap and cheer.

But when these officials heard that the guidance team had arrived, they were all like mice seeing a cat, their hearts nearly jumping out of their chests.

The village chief just sat there in the chair, smoking one cigarette after another, until the whole kitchen was filled with smoke.

"Sigh, I give up, I really give up."

The village chief sighed deeply, stroking his shiny bald head.

Only now does he realize how foolish he has been.

He's just a lowly village chief, yet he dares to dream of going against the country. What a pipe dream!

Compared to the nation, my little schemes are utterly laughable.

"So what are you going to do now? Shall we just go and confess?" the village chief's wife asked hurriedly.

"What's the point of confessing? If I really confess, I'll be doomed. I'll go see Chen Feng tomorrow and beg him to see if he can do anything."

"I hope we can pretend we don't know anything in the end. I'll help them get the demolition sorted out, and they'll let me off the hook," the village chief said, taking a deep breath.

On their way back, Chen Feng and his companion couldn't help but burst out laughing.

“Brother Feng, I think the village chief has gone mad. When I tried to talk to him, he ignored me several times, looking completely distracted,” Li Chunlai said with a laugh.

"He was actually doubting whether what I said was true, but he didn't dare to gamble, and he couldn't afford to gamble."

"You don't even have an equal stake in the game, so what are you going to use to gamble with me? And what right do you have to gamble at the same table with me?"

Chen Feng took out two cigarettes, handed one to Li Chunlai, and lit it for him.

"Just watch, he'll contact me on his own in less than two days," Chen Feng said confidently.

"What if he's so stubborn and refuses to contact you?" Li Chunlai asked curiously.

"Then he's really facing certain death," Chen Feng said nonchalantly.

When the two returned to the camp, many people were still awake, including Qi Minglin.

"How did it go? Did the village chief agree?" Qi Minglin asked Chen Feng impatiently.

"Agree to what? I'm just going for a drink." Chen Feng sat down on the stool next to her.

"Didn't you go to talk to the village chief and ask him to help you with the demolition?" Qi Minglin asked, puzzled.

"I consulted him? Who told you that?" Chen Feng looked at him as if he were an idiot.

"Just watch, he'll be begging me in less than two days," Chen Feng said, leaning back in his chair.

"Really? Don't be ridiculous. They'd never ask you for a favor. If you asked them for a favor, they might not even listen to you." Qi Minglin said, completely unconvinced.

"Little sister, learn from me." Chen Feng stood up, stretched, and went back into his tent.

The village chief was quite drunk, and Chen Feng was already feeling sleepy.

Smelling Chen Feng's drunken scent, Qi Minglin rolled her eyes at Chen Feng's tent.

She didn't believe a word Chen Feng said today.

He'd come begging to you? How could that be?

The next morning, before Chen Feng woke up, Qi Minglin had just finished dressing and was getting ready to wash up with her toothbrush when she saw a bald, burly man walking towards her from a distance, carrying a plastic bag.

"Hello, hello, is Brother Chen Feng awake yet?" the village chief asked Qi Minglin, bowing and scraping.

Upon hearing this, Qi Minglin's eyes widened slightly as she looked the village chief up and down.

"No, he's still sleeping. What's wrong?" Qi Minglin asked, holding a toothbrush in her hand.

"Oh, he drank a bit too much yesterday, and I figured he'd feel unwell this morning. My wife steamed some buns and millet porridge, so I brought them to him," the village chief said, carrying a plastic bag.

"Shall I go and call him?" Qi Minglin gestured.

"No need, no need, I'll just wait here for him to wake up. I'm just worried the buns will get cold, could you please find something to put them in?" The village chief handed the buns to Qi Minglin.

"Okay." Qi Minglin nodded, picked up the buns, and turned to go to the stove to find something to keep them warm.

When Qi Minglin turned around, her eyes were filled with shock and disbelief.

Wait, what's going on? The village chief actually came to beg Chen Feng for help?!

Otherwise, how would you explain the village chief's current state? If you said he simply came to deliver a few steamed buns, Qi Minglin would never believe it.

Qi Minglin put the steamed buns in a bag, and the aroma of the buns wafted out.

Honestly, freshly steamed buns smell amazing.

Qi Minglin glanced at the bag of steamed buns, then nervously looked back before quickly taking out two and eating them in a few bites.

After doing all this, Qi Minglin, with her mouth full of buns, pretended nothing had happened, tied the bag shut, swallowed with difficulty, and then returned to the camp entrance.

"Please have a seat. Chen Feng usually doesn't get up until nine o'clock," Qi Minglin said, gesturing to the village chief.
