After checking the detector, Chen Feng found that the first shovel was still not enough, so he used force to shovel another one.
The detector went off this time. Chen Feng shook off the dirt, looked around but found no trace of the leak, and shook it off again.
"Ooh-woo~"
The detector went off, and Chen Feng immediately started digging with his hands, using his fingers to dig into the soil.
After removing about a third of the soil from the shovel, Chen Feng finally saw the goods.
"Sigh, I knew it would turn out like this, damn it!"
Chen Feng threw the silver coin, worth thirty or forty yuan, into the bottle, shook his head, and stood up with the detector in his hand.
He no longer wanted to curse God; he was tired of it.
Taking a deep breath, Chen Feng walked towards the van, wondering how others fared today, whether it was just bad luck on his part or if this place was simply unlucky.
Chen Feng didn't understand either, but he figured he should leave this position as soon as possible tomorrow and go as far away as possible.
He calculated his earnings for the day and realized he hadn't even made five hundred yuan; it was a truly dismal day.
Chen Feng took out a cigarette from his pocket, lit it, shielded the flame with his hand, and took a deep drag.
He sighed and walked forward.
He had only walked a few steps when he came to a bush. Chen Feng was about to go around it when the system notification sounded again.
"You're getting cocky over this broken silver grain, aren't you? You're probably mocking me, aren't you?" Chen Feng said helplessly upon hearing the system's notification.
Since he wasn't in a hurry, he stood still and finished his cigarette before picking up the detector, drawing a line with his eyes, and starting to probe.
As he probed line by line, the detector didn't sound anything. When he reached the bush, Chen Feng roughly circled it before continuing to probe further.
Because the bushes are so low, it's really hard to stick the detector in; it always ends up scratching your hand.
The area was quickly explored, but the detector still didn't sound, and Chen Feng frowned slightly.
This was the first time he had encountered such a situation; he had actually drawn the wrong area.
If the system notification is still ringing, it means you've missed out on the item.
Chen Feng had no choice but to expand the area further, carrying the detector and continuing to scan line by line.
He guessed it was because he had drawn the area too small.
But when the newly drawn area had been explored and the detector still hadn't sounded, Chen Feng couldn't help but utter a question.
"ah?"
He looked at the area he had drawn. "Don't even mention three meters, this is probably five meters long. How come I still haven't gotten the goods out?"
It can't be a system error, but is that even possible? Even if Chen Feng makes a mistake, the system wouldn't.
He pondered for a moment, then focused his gaze on the bush. With a try-it-out mentality, he pushed the detector in as far as possible, trying not to miss any spot.
When Chen Feng finally brought the detector close to the base of the bush, he heard a "whoosh" sound coming from his earpiece.
"Holy crap, could it be down there?" Chen Feng bent down to look at the bottom of the bushes and grinned.
Having determined the location, Chen Feng went straight inside. The space under the bushes was too small, so Chen Feng had to kneel down. He pulled the detector to his side.
Listening carefully to the sound in his headset, Chen Feng noticed that the closer he got to the roots of the bushes, the louder the sound became, and he couldn't help but sigh.
This is too much trouble. I just hope the goods weren't crushed by the roots of the bushes. If they were, would I have to pull the tree away first?
He took out an old shovel from his bag and started digging at the base of the bush, raising shovelfuls of soil high into the air until he had quickly dug a hole at the base.
He pulled the detector over again and extended it into the pit; this time, the sound from the detector was even louder.
Alright, this time Chen Feng can confirm that the thing really is right in the center of the shrub's base.
Setting the detector aside, Chen Feng picked up a shovel and began digging forcefully downwards.
The shrubs have very developed and intertwined roots, making it more difficult to dig deeper than before.
Every time Chen Feng used his shovel, he had to cut off several roots and then pull the broken roots aside.
Chen Feng quickly dug a hole on one side of the shrub's roots. He was covered in sweat from the effort and had to straighten up to rest.
"Phew... how long will this digging take?"
Looking at the pit, Chen Feng felt a heavy responsibility and realized that he hadn't even dug one-fifth of it.
Chen Feng thought of many solutions. If none of them worked, he would dig a hole and then dig directly to the base of the shrub.
However, after digging this hole, Chen Feng felt that the plan wasn't going to work.
The tree roots underneath are even more extensive, making it difficult to cut them all off with just a shovel. Moreover, it's hard to apply force when you only dig a small hole, making it even more difficult to cut them.
Chen Feng gently dug around inside with a shovel, looked at the shrub in front of him, gritted his teeth, and took the furthest but also the shortest method.
Let's just dig up the whole tree!
Without further ado, Chen Feng began digging around the roots of the shrubs, just like a groundhog.
It took Chen Feng a full half hour to dig around the base of the shrub. He was so tired that he was seeing stars and his knees ached from kneeling.
"If your mother's kiss had been dug up for so long and turned out to be just a tiny silver nugget, I would have just burned you."
Chen Feng wiped the sweat from his forehead with his arm and threatened the bushes fiercely.
After digging for a while, Chen Feng threw the shovel aside and grabbed the base of the shrub, pulling it out forcefully.
"Eh... Ah!"
Chen Feng's face was contorted with rage, and he exerted all his strength. The bushes, having been hollowed out, began to loosen and, with Chen Feng's power, started to move outwards.
Halfway through pulling, Chen Feng couldn't pull anymore and sat down on the ground, panting heavily.
He had already pulled out a third of the bush, which was leaning crookedly to one side.
Chen Feng took a breath, half-squatted on the ground, hugged the roots of the bush, and pulled it out with all his might. He really used every ounce of strength he had.
The soil around the base of the shrub kept breaking off, and finally Chen Feng felt a lightness in his hand as he fell forward along with the shrub.
"Swish~"
Chen Feng fell to the ground along with the bush. He let go of the bush and lay on the ground, his chest heaving violently.
"Huff...huff..."
Chen Feng was exhausted. He struggled to get up and looked into the tree pit.
Because the shrubs were pulled out, leaving a deep pit, Chen Feng didn't see anything at first glance, so he picked up the shovel next to him and started digging towards the center of the pit.
With one shovelful, he dug out a shovelful of very loose soil. He ran it over the detector, but the detector didn't beep.
The second shovel was another large one, but the detector still didn't go off.
With the third shovel stroke, Chen Feng no longer needed the detector. He looked at the object lying quietly in the very center of the pit and gasped in shock.
His eyes widened in disbelief. The shovel clattered to the ground beside him as he reached out and picked up the dark yellow, blocky object.
"Holy crap..."
