Chapter 630 The Great Uproar
“We’re from an exploration team. You know what an exploration team is? They’re for finding minerals,” Zhang Richeng explained.
"What's an exploration team? I don't know either. Looking for minerals? What kind of minerals?" the old lady asked, looking puzzled.
"It's rare earth ore, very valuable. It seems there's rare earth ore down here, that's why we're here to mine it," Zhang Richeng said.
"Rare earth minerals? What are those? Mud?" The old woman couldn't understand a word he was saying, except that he understood that they were very valuable.
"It's not muddy water, it's rare earth, anyway, it's very profitable."
"You two chat, I'm going to eat noodles." Zhang Richeng waved his hand and continued walking towards the village with Gao Hua.
"Rare earth, do you know what rare earth is?" the old woman asked the old woman next to her.
"How would I know? I couldn't understand what he was saying, but it seemed quite valuable. Can soil really be valuable?" the old woman said with a disbelieving look.
"Who knows? I don't know." Another elderly woman wearing a little red hat also shook her head.
Zhang Richeng and Gao Hua quickly found the mala tang restaurant and went inside.
"Two bowls of spicy hot pot, please, to go," Zhang Richeng said as he entered the room.
"Okay, here's what you want to eat, help yourselves." The proprietress, who was probably in her forties, handed them a small funnel.
The room had a cement floor, a kang (a heated brick bed) at the far end, and several tables on the floor.
The environment was actually quite clean, but no matter how clean the countryside is, it's still just so-so. Zhang Richeng looked at her with disdain, picked up some vegetables with a funnel, and handed them to the proprietress.
"Add more vinegar when it's spicy."
"Okay, both portions?" the proprietress asked as she took the food.
“Yes, all of them.” Zhang Richeng nodded and found a chair near the kitchen to sit down.
"By the way, are you people who just arrived from outside the village?" the proprietress asked while cooking.
“Yes, we are from the exploration team,” Gao Hua replied.
"What are you looking for, exploration team?" the landlady asked curiously.
The proprietress is in her forties, so she knows more than the older women.
"Looking for rare earth mines, do you know anything about rare earth mines?" Gao Hua asked.
"Rare earth elements? What are those? I've never heard of them," the proprietress said, completely bewildered.
"It's a kind of mineral, worth more than a hundred times more than gold. You guys are in luck; you'll make a fortune when the land is demolished," Gao Hua said with a smile.
"A hundred times more valuable than gold? In our village, is that really true?" The proprietress's hand trembled upon hearing this; she simply couldn't believe it was true.
“Of course it’s true. We were sent by the government, why would we lie to you?” Gao Hua laughed.
"My God, what's going on? Could our village be so lucky?" The landlady felt like she was in a dream.
"Of course! This is a gift from God. The area will probably be demolished soon, so think about how you're going to spend the compensation money," Gao Hua said with a smile.
"hiss…"
The proprietress was completely dazed by what she was being told, as if she were in a dream, and even cooking the spicy hot pot became a subconscious action.
"Here you go, your spicy hot pot is ready." The proprietress was so preoccupied with the demolition that she completely forgot they wanted to take it away.
"Boss lady, could you give me a bag? I need to take it home to eat," Zhang Richeng said, unable to resist seeing the bowl.
"Oh, okay, okay. Look at my brain, I don't even know what I'm thinking about."
Upon hearing this, the proprietress slapped her forehead, smiled apologetically, and quickly brought over two bags, pouring the spicy hot pot into them.
"By the way, sis, this is confidential. You absolutely mustn't tell anyone it was us who told you. If you do, things will get really serious," Gao Hua warned, carrying a bowl of spicy hot pot.
"Don't worry, would I be so stupid as to say it was the two of you who said it?" the proprietress quickly assured him.
"Okay, we're off then, ladies." The two said, paid the bill, and left the store.
"Brother, isn't it dangerous to do this?" Gao Hua asked with some concern.
"What are you afraid of? With the speed at which the news spreads in this kind of village, it will probably be all over the place in less than a day. By then, it will be very difficult for you to find the source of the news."
"Besides, almost everyone in the team has been to the village, so who knows who said it."
"I've already given them the opportunity. Whether they can seize it or not is none of my business," Zhang Richeng grinned smugly.
They quickly returned to the team, where some people were curiously watching their spicy hot pot.
"It smells alright, but there aren't many dishes," someone said, looking at the plastic bag.
"It's alright. We're already in this place, what more could we ask for? As long as the taste is acceptable, it's fine." Zhang Richeng and his companion picked up their chopsticks, found a bowl, filled it with the food, and started eating.
Unbeknownst to the exploration team, the village was in an uproar. The news spread like wildfire, and now everyone in the village was asking what exactly this rare earth stuff was.
Even more rumors have spread that there is oil beneath their village and they are about to become rich.
After all, compared to rare earth elements, oil is simpler and clearer, and they can understand it better.
The village chief, a bald, burly man, immediately went to search for information about rare earth elements after hearing the news.
After he roughly figured it out, everyone was astonished.
"No, Liu Zi, is this news reliable? Who did you hear it from?" The village chief asked, looking at his phone with shock in his eyes.
"Who heard that from? The whole village is saying it now. If you don't believe me, go out and listen. Everyone is saying it. It's causing quite a stir."
"What exactly is that thing? Is it valuable?" Liu Zi asked, puzzled.
"If that's the case, then we're going to get rich. Rare earth elements are more valuable than gold, and that's exactly what the country needs right now."
"And now, the thing that this country lacks most is right here in our village. My God, this is practically like God sending money to us."
The village chief muttered to himself, one idea after another popping up, all about how to make money.
"My God, is this for real? Is our village really that powerful?" Liu Zi asked in disbelief.
"Let's wait a day and listen to what's going on before deciding what to do." The village chief calmed down for the time being, preparing to observe the situation.
After all, if demolition is really necessary, it won't happen immediately, so there's no need to panic.
The next day, Chen Feng and his friends went to Li Lao Er's house, and Li Lao Er opened the door to welcome them in.
"You've finally arrived! The whole village is buzzing with rumors that you're going to dig for rare earth. Is it true?" Li Lao Er asked, puzzled.
Right now, people in the village are just talking about mining rare earth elements, but not many people realize just how valuable they are.
"Rare earth, who told you that?" Chen Feng's eyes turned cold upon hearing this, and he pressed for an answer.
Qi Minglin was startled when she heard this, and thought to herself, "Oh no!"
