Chen Feng turned his head speechlessly. He had never seen such a stingy old man before. He wouldn't let go of a single penny. What was he doing?
"Is it really necessary?" Chen Feng really wanted to ask.
Which gold prospector would also pick up trash on the side? Even Zheng Ping doesn't want those scrap metal pieces anymore, let alone broken plastic bottles.
The old man reached to the bottom, then pulled over a woven bag and threw some scrap metal and rusty nails into it.
Chen Feng: "..."
Sure enough, Chen Feng said it!
If even old men pick up plastic bottles, there's no reason for them to let go of these scrap metal items.
He really wanted to say, "Grandpa, everyone else is destined to get rich, and if you don't, it's just bad luck."
I've never seen anything like this before.
"What's this bottle? Why would anyone buy this broken medicine bottle?" Chen Feng picked up a large medicine bottle by the car and asked the old man in confusion.
I shook the bottle casually, and it seemed like there was something inside, making a gurgling sound.
"That's not it, that's what I used to load goods. It's all broken like that, who would want to take it?" The old man chuckled.
Upon hearing that it was for loading goods, Chen Feng quickly put it down. He had thought someone else would accept it, which was quite embarrassing.
The medicine bottle was one of those big medicine bottles, like the ones used for health supplements, except the label on the bottle was long gone, the bottle was covered in tiny scratches, and the white bottle was all blackened, so it must have been there for a long time.
"Eat up, grandpa, my food's almost ready." Since the grandpa was either leaving tonight or tomorrow, Chen Feng figured he couldn't afford to miss out on this meal.
"No, I have pancakes, just some chili sauce will do," the old man said after tidying up his things.
"Hey, come on over, this is going to be our last meal together."
Chen Feng pulled the old man over to sit down and said, "Actually, the old man is a very nice and helpful person. He will answer all of Chen Feng's questions without reservation. You can use whatever he has."
Chen Feng couldn't stand the old man's personality; he felt the criticism was excessive.
The old man was pulled over by Chen Feng, but he ate very little of the vegetables, instead tearing off a piece of pancake and dipping it in some soup.
He felt genuinely embarrassed to be eating Chen Feng's food every night.
"Grandpa, when are you going back?" Chen Feng asked, holding a lunchbox and picking up a bamboo shoot.
"Let's go tonight. We'll leave after dinner. It's close by anyway, so it's better to go home than stay here."
The old man had already planned when he would leave, and answered subconsciously.
"What about you? Are you going to shop around for another two days?" The old man looked up at Chen Feng.
"If you leave, I'll leave too. I'm going to visit my friend. I guess I should go home in another day or two," Chen Feng chuckled.
"Okay, then let's go together in a bit. Next time you come, you'll be able to find this place by yourself, right? And if I'm not here, you can still come here by yourself," the old man said thoughtfully.
"It's alright, I can find it. I'll get used to it after one visit," Chen Feng reassured the old man.
"Okay, that's fine. Call me if you can't find it." The old man nodded, indicating that it was alright.
The two finished eating quickly, tidied up a bit, and then got into the car at the same time, preparing to drive out of the abandoned mine in the small village and head towards the national highway.
Chen Feng lit a cigarette and followed behind the old man. After leaving the abandoned mine and getting onto the national highway, they would be going in opposite directions, and that's where they would part ways.
After walking for about ten minutes, before they had even left the abandoned mine in the small village, Chen Feng heard the old man's car make a loud "bang," which startled him.
Then they saw the old man's car slowly stop, and Chen Feng stopped his car and got out as well.
"What's going on, sir?"
Chen Feng asked the old man, whose complexion didn't look good.
The old man didn't say anything, but opened the hood. As soon as he opened the hood, he saw a little smoke coming out.
"Damn it, it seems like there's something wrong with the engine." The old man slapped the car hard and sighed deeply.
The old man was really worried; his brows were almost furrowed. What would happen if it broke down in this remote place, far from any village or shop?
Do we have to call a tow truck to take it to the repair shop?
That would cost so much! If it broke at home, it would be so much better. The old man could just buy a part and fix it himself; it wouldn't be that expensive.
Moreover, it's not just that towing to a repair shop is expensive; the towing fee is also ridiculously high.
The old man got a headache just thinking about these expenses; he was so worried that he kept complaining, "Oh dear, oh dear."
But being delirious doesn't mean you're dead. In the end, the old man had no choice but to take out his phone and planned to call a tow truck to take it home, and then go buy a part to fix it himself.
Seeing the old man take out his phone, Chen Feng asked him a question.
"Sir, why are you making that call? Can someone deliver your package?"
"There's no one here, and I don't even know what's wrong with it. I'll have to go home and figure it out slowly. I'll call a tow truck to take the car home first," the old man said with a deep breath, feeling distressed.
"Why are you even calling for a tow truck? Those things are so expensive, they'd cost you hundreds of dollars for one trip. How could you possibly get it down?"
"Forget it, I'll haul it home for you. That way we can save some money."
Chen Feng had just thought about it; it really wasn't easy for the old man to save up his money, so he figured he might as well go all the way and see it through.
"Oh, Xiaofeng, I'm really sorry to trouble you this time. Thank you so much, but I really have no other choice."
"Don't worry, you've helped me, I can't let you pay for the gas. I'll pay for it for you," the old man said quickly, and then turned around to find the gas money for Chen Feng.
"Oh dear, oh dear, let's forget about it. Let's talk about it when we get home. Do you have a tow rope?" Chen Feng stopped the old man and asked.
Chen Feng had no intention of taking the old man's hundred-odd yuan. The old man was a good person, and he felt he had done a good deed.
"Yes, yes, yes, I'll go find it for you." The old man quickly rummaged through the truck bed and pulled out the tow rope.
Chen Feng drove the car in front of the old man and attached the tow rope.
"Sir, call me if you need anything, or signal left and I'll stop the car," Chen Feng said as he got into the car.
"I know, I know."
The two got into the car, and Chen Feng started the engine, slowly driving forward with the old man.
Before getting in the car, the old man had already given Chen Feng his home address, and Chen Feng, with the navigation on, wasn't worried about getting lost.
Soon the car was on the national highway. Chen Feng drove slowly, heading towards the old man's house.
After driving for about twenty minutes, Chen Feng noticed that the old man's left turn signal suddenly lit up. Chen Feng quickly pulled over to the side of the road, wondering if the old man's car had encountered another problem.
"What's wrong, sir?"
Chen Feng parked the car, got out, and quickly asked.
"It's okay, it's okay, wait for me a moment, it would be such a waste not to pick up so many."
The old man quickly grabbed a woven bag and walked towards the roadside.
As the old man walked away, Chen Feng saw many plastic bottles thrown by the roadside, probably dozens of them.
The old man was carrying a woven bag, clearly targeting the beverage bottles.
Chen Feng was stunned by what he saw and stood there completely bewildered.
