"What job? You want me to get the gold for you?" Lu Dahai laughed as soon as he heard that.
Even if it's not yours, it's okay to hold it in your hand for a while. They say gold brings good luck, so wild gold must bring even more bad luck, haha.
Chen Feng almost laughed out of anger upon hearing this. "You want to help me get the gold? You're dreaming!"
“We caught some fish, but we can’t take them back now. We’re going to sell them at your place. You and Lin Nian can carry them back,” Chen Feng said, pointing to a fish basket by the river.
Upon hearing that it wasn't gold but helping to carry fish, Lu Dahai's face immediately fell.
"How much could there be? Lin Nian can take it back himself," Lu Dahai said, walking a few steps towards the shore.
In his imagination, catching five or six more fish would be considered a pretty good catch.
When he went over to take a look, he was immediately stunned to see a bunch of lively, jumping fish in the fish basket.
"Holy crap, there must be at least twenty or thirty of them!"
"You two caught all of these?" Lu Dahai asked in shock.
“Absolutely. Lin Nian can’t lift it by himself. You’ll help him lift it,” Chen Feng instructed, holding the detector and an umbrella.
Lu Dahai's lips twitched upon hearing this. What kind of situation was this? People came to watch the fun, but he had to do the work.
"Come on, Xiao Nian, lift it up." Lu Dahai rolled up his sleeves and together with Lin Nian lifted the basket of fish.
"Wow, this must weigh at least 60 or 70 pounds!" Lu Dahai exclaimed in shock once again.
"Absolutely, otherwise would I let the two of you carry it?"
Everyone exclaimed in amazement at the basket of fish. These fish alone could fetch a lot of money; their trip today hadn't been in vain.
If they had known there were so many fish, they would have come to catch them too.
And so, Chen Feng, like a victorious general, returned to the village under the escort of a group of people.
"Just bring the fish to your house. I'll go home and change my clothes before I come back," Chen Feng said to Lu Dahai.
“Okay, you go first.” Lu Dahai nodded and carried the fish into his shop with Lin Nian.
When Chen Feng returned home soaking wet, Liu Ping immediately stood up and said, "You two just stayed in the river like that?"
“Yes.” Chen Feng set up the detector against the wall and took a towel to dry his hair.
"Take off your wet clothes and change into something dry," Liu Ping urged.
"Okay, I'll go inside and change my clothes first." As soon as Chen Feng entered the house, he found that his kang (heated brick bed) was burning hot. His mother had already thought of this for him, just waiting for him to come back so that he could warm up.
After taking off all his clothes, drying them off, and changing into clean clothes, Chen Feng lit a cigarette and went outside.
"I'm going to Lu Dahai's house to process the fish first," Chen Feng said to Liu Ping.
"You caught a fish? How much?" Liu Ping asked upon hearing this.
"About sixty or seventy catties. I'll bring back two and stew them later," Chen Feng said after thinking for a moment.
"My goodness, how come there are so many? They must weigh sixty or seventy pounds!" Liu Ping was quite surprised when she heard this.
"They were mostly arrested by Lin Nian; I only arrested one," Chen Feng said with a smile.
"If you can't take it, just take less. We're good friends, don't take advantage of others," Liu Ping said after thinking for a moment.
"It's alright, I know what I'm doing," Chen Feng said, squatting down in front of the stove and warming himself by the fire.
"What about the metal detector? Is there anything on it?" Liu Ping took the metal detector and started wiping the water droplets off it with a dry cloth.
"Then we must find it." Chen Feng went into the house and put the gold on the table for her to see.
Liu Ping walked over when she saw the large piece of gold, and she was so shocked that she couldn't close her mouth.
"My God, how big is this? Is this really gold?" Liu Ping said, picking it up in disbelief.
"It's definitely gold, no doubt about it. I searched for ages before finding it; my hands are all white from being soaked in water," Chen Feng said with a smile.
"How much is this worth? I never thought there would be gold in the river. You're incredibly lucky," Liu Ping exclaimed.
"I estimate it will be over a thousand, but who knows the exact amount?" Chen Feng guessed.
"Alright, Mom, I'm going to Lu Dahai's house now. Wait for me at home. Do you need me to bring anything back?" Chen Feng asked, turning around.
"You don't need to bring anything, we have everything we need at home," Liu Ping quickly replied.
She knew that if she mentioned what she lacked, he would spend money to buy it.
I just earned some money, so I should save it.
Chen Feng grunted in agreement, took his umbrella, and left the house, heading towards Lu Dahai's home.
As soon as I entered, I saw a lot of people gathered around the pile of fish, discussing it animatedly, clearly very interested.
Lu Dahai also took the time to pour the fish into several large washbasins filled with water to prevent them from dying.
"That's really big. That carp must weigh three or four pounds."
"The crucian carp are quite big, many of them weigh two or three ounces, that's really good."
"I never expected that the two kids could catch so many fish. They're better than adults. Even adults don't say they can catch sixty or seventy pounds of fish at a time."
"That's right, the key is that they also found a piece of gold, which is worth more than a thousand. You can imagine how lucky they are."
"How much is this fish? Is Chen Feng selling it?"
Lu Dahai chimed in from the side, "He'll be here soon. He'll definitely sell, but we don't know how much he'll ask for. Lin Nian, how much are you two planning to sell it for?"
Lin Nian listened to everyone's praises and was extremely happy. It was the first time he had ever been so popular in the village.
Because Chen Feng had talked at home for a while, he arrived later than Lin Nian, who came after changing her clothes.
Upon hearing the question, Lin Nian hesitated for a moment and said, "I don't know how much it will cost. Let's wait for my brother to come and we'll talk about it. I'll listen to him."
Chen Feng walked in at this moment, and everyone turned around when they saw him, their eyes focusing on him.
"Fengzi, you had a good day."
"This fish looks good. How much are you planning to sell it for?"
"The main character is here, make way!"
Everyone joked around, and Chen Feng smiled too.
After thinking for a moment, Chen Feng set the price: "Two yuan a pound for carp, four yuan for crucian carp, definitely much cheaper than in the county town."
Normally, at fish stalls in the county town, carp costs 3.5 yuan and crucian carp costs 6 yuan. If you catch your own fish and sell it in the village, you certainly can't sell it for that much. This price is fair and reasonable.
Everyone nodded in agreement upon hearing the price, indicating that it was good and a good deal.
"The crucian carp looks good. Give me one, half a pound of this one. It'll be perfect for making soup on a rainy or cloudy day." A slightly dark-skinned man pointed at a crucian carp and said with great interest.
"What, are you trying to help your wife produce milk?"
Someone nearby overheard him saying this and couldn't help but joke.
"I'll make sure you have enough milk to drink, so your eldest son won't go hungry." The man didn't spoil her at all, which made everyone in the room burst into laughter.
The man wasn't embarrassed by what he heard and laughed too. That's how it is in the village; whoever has the sharpest tongue can get the better of others. Everyone's used to it.
