"Have you eaten, Uncle? Want some?" Chen Feng asked with a smile as he took the plate.
"I've already eaten. I'm getting old, I can't eat too much at night, it's hard to digest," the uncle waved his hand and chuckled.
"Oh, right, uncle, I didn't see your two sons either. Here's thirty yuan for today's meal." Chen Feng took a bite of his food before remembering, and took out thirty yuan from his pocket to hand to the uncle.
The uncle took the money, counted out fifteen, and returned it.
"I've already collected the food from lunchtime, but I'll skip the dinner. There won't be much food left by then, and it'll all be a bit cold anyway."
"If you come early tomorrow, I'll take it. That's all."
The uncle said something, and before Chen Feng could pull him away, he smiled, turned around, and prepared to go upstairs.
"Uncle, this won't do, you have to do it right!" Chen Feng shouted, holding up the money.
"There's more rice in the pot if you don't have enough, help yourself," the uncle said as he walked up the stairs.
To be fair, probably about a third of the dishes for dinner were broken up, especially tofu, which was mostly broken into pieces.
It just doesn't look good, but it still tastes the same. It's normal for them to charge you 15 if they really do.
All I can say is that the uncle was a really nice person, which made Chen Feng feel a little embarrassed.
The rice was lukewarm, and Chen Feng ate it quickly. He finished the whole plate in no time, then stood up, took the plate to the kitchen, washed it, and put it there.
When he came out, Chen Feng saw two cars outside. He stood there and glanced at them. He saw that they were Zhang Lao Da and Zhang Lao Er. A middle-aged woman got out of each of their cars.
"No, brother, I'm not trying to criticize you, but how can you do things like this? You're not happy that the second brother is charging an extra day's wages."
"Did you pay us for the leftovers from last week that you used today?" the middle-aged woman next to the second son said angrily.
"What money did I give you? You have the nerve to say that? Which glutton ate the piece of pork belly I put in my freezer last month? You think I don't know that?!"
"You're not happy about ordering the food? The vegetables you left over can still be eaten in a few days. I'm only doing this to take care of you. If we're talking about money, you should pay us for the meat first!" Zhang's wife said in a high-pitched voice, her eyebrows furrowed.
"Heh, you're trying to pull my small intestine out of me, aren't you, sister-in-law? Last time we slaughtered a pig, we agreed to split it in half, so why are two of my intestines missing? Tell me why, did that pig not grow intestines?" The second son's wife pointed at the eldest son's wife and shouted back.
"Who are you asking? How the hell am I supposed to know? I could say you're hiding and making excuses, trying to extort money from me, huh? You can't afford to live anymore!"
"Only those who can't afford to live know. You were the one washing intestines there, and in the end, two intestines were missing. Who do you think took them? Do you really think we can't count and can't tell?"
As the situation escalated and the two men were about to grab each other, the eldest and second eldest men simultaneously pulled on their wives.
Before they could even open their mouths to speak, they saw the uncle standing at the top of the stairs with a long face.
The sound wasn't loud, but it instantly quieted the room.
"What's all the noise about here? There are other people around. Aren't you going to make a fool of yourself?"
“Your mother had just fallen asleep when I heard you yelling and screaming here.”
"If you want to argue, go outside and argue. Come back when you've had your fill."
After the uncle finished speaking, he ignored them and went upstairs on his own.
But the words were indeed very effective. The two daughters-in-law looked at each other coldly and snorted at the same time. Neither of them dared to make another sound.
The eldest and second eldest brothers exchanged a glance and went upstairs in a huff.
Chen Feng pretended to rummage through the freezer looking for water, and listened to the whole thing from beginning to end.
Seeing that it was over, Chen Feng picked up a bottle of mineral water from the refrigerator and went back to his room.
This is sold here; just let me know tomorrow and I'll pay.
Back inside, Chen Feng took a sip of chilled mineral water, lit a cigarette, and sighed with emotion.
It seems that brothers falling out has nothing to do with whether they are rich or poor.
Honestly, these two brothers' living conditions are similar to, or even better than, the village chief's family.
After all, the village chief didn't say that they lived in such a big villa, with a yard big enough to park twenty cars, and also had a mining site.
Even with such good conditions, the two of them would still argue fiercely over a little bit of vegetables, a piece of meat, or two sausages.
Chen Feng could even sense that the two of them had harbored resentment for a long time, and that their falling out was not just due to this one thing.
It feels like this bomb is just one fuse away from exploding.
Shaking his head, Chen Feng took off his clothes to take a shower. "Go ahead and spray him, he won't get sprayed anyway."
It's such a pity that the uncle was such a good person, why did his two sons turn out like this? Wouldn't it have been better if they had lived in harmony?
After taking a shower, Chen Feng lay comfortably on the bed; he had even washed his clothes earlier.
It has to be a paid mining site, that's really great.
Chen Feng slept soundly until the next day, when he was woken up by his alarm clock while still holding his blanket.
He looked up and noticed that it was a bit cloudy outside, and there even seemed to be a slight crackling sound from the window.
"Hey, is it going to rain?" Chen Feng scratched his messy hair and stood up to say.
Standing by the window, Chen Feng realized it was really raining, and felt a little helpless.
Fortunately, it was just a light rain, so it shouldn't interfere with gold panning.
After washing up, Chen Feng went outside and found the Zhang brothers on either side of him, one looking at his phone and the other smoking.
"Um, I drank a bottle of water yesterday, plus the gold panning and accommodation fees, how much did it cost in total?" Chen Feng didn't know who to ask, so he just looked at the two of them.
"Why should I pay for a bottle of water? It'll be five hundred and twenty in total," Zhang Laoda said with a smile as he stood up.
"Do you have any leftovers? Give me a bowl, so I don't have to cook them at the mine later," Chen Feng asked.
"Yes, I'll go get it for you. It was freshly made this morning and it's still hot." Upon hearing this, Zhang Lao Er got up and went to the kitchen.
There was no breakfast here; this must be what their family eats.
Zhang Lao Er filled a small basin with water for Chen Feng and brought it over.
"Is this enough? If not, I'll get you some more," Zhang Lao Er asked, holding a rice spoon.
"That's enough, thank you. How much is this?" Chen Feng asked, taking the food.
"A little bit of rice isn't worth much, just come and get some, it's fine," Zhang Lao Er waved his hand.
"Oh, I'm so sorry, thank you both. I'll leave the money here." Chen Feng put the money on the table, said goodbye, and took his food out.
As for who among you two will keep the money, that's none of my business.
Zhang Lao Er quickly grabbed the money, while Zhang Lao Da put down his phone, his eyes narrowed, clearly dissatisfied.
Unfortunately, Zhang Lao Er wasn't afraid of him either, and stared straight back.
With the food in hand, Chen Feng first heated up the canned mutton in the back seat using a windproof stove before driving towards the mining area.
After choosing a location, Chen Feng parked the car, went to the trunk, and ate mutton hotpot with his meal.
He finished the whole bowl of rice, wiped his mouth with a tissue, picked up his tools, and closed the car door.
The rain was light and intermittent today, so let's just say it kept us cool.
