As the car moved, the board opened wider and wider until Chen Jianguo finally had to stop, reach out and push it, and then shook his head.
This won't do. If we keep going like this, the board will fall off, and if it does, it'll be a huge problem.
The people in the car looked at Chen Jianguo, who had suddenly stopped, and although they were curious, they didn't react.
He's an experienced driver; there must be a reason he stopped. Maybe he was looking for a good spot.
After waiting for a short while, Chen Jianguo actually got out of the car and got into their car, which surprised them a bit.
"What's wrong? What's going on?" Chen Feng asked.
“No, there’s a panel in the car that’s about to fall off. We need to find something to screw it back on,” Chen Jianguo said, shaking his head.
"Ah, how could this be?" Huang Fei turned around in surprise.
“It’s normal. This isn’t a new machine; it’s been around for who knows how many years. And it’s common for these excavators to break down. It’s not a big deal; just screw it back on,” Chen Jianguo said habitually.
"Then what should we do? Call the boss and ask him to come and fix it?" Li Chunlai suggested.
"Let's not call him anymore. If we call him, he'll send someone else to fix it again. We don't know how long that will take, and it will only waste our time."
"Find a screwdriver and I'll tighten it myself," Chen Jianguo said, indicating that he didn't need it.
"I have a screwdriver, but the problem is where am I going to find screws like those?" Chen Feng said, taking a tool set out of the trunk.
"Let me see." Chen Jianguo took it, opened it, and searched for the few screws inside.
“No, this isn’t big enough,” Chen Jianguo said after looking around.
"Then what should we do? Shall we go buy it?" Chen Feng asked.
"Wait a minute, let me think." Chen Jianguo said, then fell into deep thought, as if recalling something.
Seeing this, no one spoke, waiting for him to think it over.
"Yes, definitely. No need to buy them. Go to Brother Qi's house. When we left, there was a bunch of screws there. They'll definitely fit." Chen Jianguo recalled with certainty.
"Let's go take a look. Where is that place?" Huang Fei asked, shifting gears.
"Just keep driving forward. His house is actually right in the middle of this mine, and we're right next to it," Chen Jianguo pointed in the direction.
"Okay." Huang Fei slowly ran forward. After running for about half an hour, without Chen Jianguo reminding him, he saw the house standing on the mine.
"It's been so many years since I've been back here," Chen Jianguo said, looking at the house with eyes full of memories.
The group drove the car into the yard, got out, and went to the gate.
The main door was now locked with chains, and a pane of glass on the first floor was cracked.
This is similar to the layout of a rural courtyard house, a large single-story building with probably six or seven rooms partitioned inside.
"What do we do now? Do you have a key?" Chen Feng asked, fiddling with the lock.
"Where would we find the key? I bet even Brother Qi would have a hard time finding it."
“But we don’t have the key, and we don’t have a shovel either.” Chen Jianguo grabbed the shovel and smashed it hard. The chain was intact, but he knocked off the doorknob, so the door could be opened.
"Come on, it's alright. We weren't planning on having it anyway," Chen Jianguo said nonchalantly.
The group entered the house, which was still furnished as it was back then, only with some empty spaces and a mess. After all, when they moved, Brother Qi took everything he could.
All that's left are some unwanted and worthless items.
“There used to be a sofa here, and Qi Ge and I would sit here every day to entertain people,” Chen Jianguo said as he entered the living room, pointing to a spot.
There were obvious signs that the sofa had been moved; the marks were clearly visible.
It's just that no one has been here for a long time, and the house is covered in dust.
"This is the warehouse, where some odds and ends were piled up back then." Chen Jianguo opened a room and went inside, rummaging through the messy floor.
"Wow, there's even a toilet in this bungalow!" Huang Fei exclaimed in surprise as he opened a door.
"It can also be used for showering. We modified this thing to make it easier to use the toilet and also to earn more money from showering."
"I remember back then, we had to call someone over to smoke every now and then," Chen Jianguo recalled, squatting on the ground.
"It's really nice. There are bedding in this room, but it's too dusty. Otherwise, we could all sleep here," Lin Nian said as he entered a room.
“These used to be rented out. There were three rooms in total. Actually, Brother Qi was thinking that since we wouldn’t need them anymore, we might as well leave them unlocked and let whoever wanted to live there live there.”
"But after we discussed it, we decided against it. If no one cleans up the place, it will turn into a doghouse after they stay there for a few days, with garbage everywhere."
"It's better to lock it up than leave it like that. What if we suddenly come back and reminisce about it someday?" Chen Jianguo continued rummaging through the pile.
“Look, I said right away that the screwdriver must have been pulled here, and he said he lost it.”
"Isn't this right here?"
Chen Jianguo pulled out a black screwdriver and held it in his hand with a rare interest.
As he spoke, he took out a screwdriver and filmed a short video of Brother Qi.
"What, you're so attached to this screwdriver?" Chen Feng asked with a smile.
"I've used this screwdriver for four years, it's so handy, but I couldn't find it anywhere when I moved. Here it is." Chen Jianguo wiped the dust off, preparing to take it with him later.
"These two screws should be enough; they should be able to screw it on."
He put the two screws in his pocket and then stood up.
"Wow, you're still thinking about that screwdriver? By the way, how did you guys get in without a key?" Qi Ge sent a WeChat message.
"I smashed it open. The doorknob was loose, and I smashed it off," Chen Jianguo replied.
"What were you doing there? Aren't there temporary houses? Isn't it incredibly dusty inside?" Brother Qi said.
“That’s quite big. I didn’t come here to stay. A screw fell out of the excavator, so I came here to look for it. Isn’t this more convenient?” Chen Jianguo walked outside.
"See? I told you not to move it so cleanly back then. It came in handy, didn't it? My foresight was spot on," Brother Qi laughed.
"Come on, we didn't have anywhere to put these odds and ends back then. Later, when we had a place, we were too lazy to come and get them," Chen Jianguo bluntly exposed.
The two chatted for a few more minutes before hanging up on WeChat, and then the group went outside.
When they reached the door, Chen Jianguo pressed the doorknob that had fallen to the ground back in and tightened a screw.
The chains were also threaded through.
"Let's go, we don't need this place anymore." Chen Jianguo prepared to leave.
"Wait a minute." Chen Feng walked around the courtyard and looked down at a spot.
He sensed it the moment he got out of the car: there was a piece of gold underneath, and it was quite large!
He had been trying to figure out where to start, because the house was all brick and had a cement floor. If he just smashed it, Chen Feng would feel bad.
