Chapter 579 Nothing Gained

"Boss lady, look, everything's ready. Are you eating here today?" the cafeteria lady asked.

"Okay, let's eat here. Order three portions." Xia Yingying nodded and looked around at the cleanliness.

"Okay, you there, get three meals for me." The woman said to someone in the distance.

"good."

Chen Feng went to the back kitchen, picked up a bottle of soy sauce, and wanted to see what brand it was.

As soon as he picked it up and hadn't even had a chance to examine it closely, the older woman snatched it back.

"You can't touch this. The boss said that if there's a food safety issue, we'll be responsible, and we can't afford that responsibility," the older woman quickly said, afraid that if she wasn't watching closely, Chen Feng might add some more drugs.

"Um...do you know who I am?" Chen Feng awkwardly withdrew his empty hand and said.

"I don't know, but no one can do it unless the landlady agrees."

The older woman assumed he was some newly appointed foreman or something at the mine.

"Well done, no problem." Chen Feng didn't know what to say, so he gave a thumbs-up to encourage her, then shrugged and went back to sit down to prepare for dinner.

"She doesn't know who you are, why don't you just tell her?" Xia Yingying said with a smile as she sat down next to Chen Feng.

"Never mind, this is fine." Chen Feng didn't seem to mind.

The food was served quickly. Chen Feng tasted it and found it to be quite good, and the food was also very clean.

At this moment, the workers also came in noisily, ready to eat. As soon as they came in and saw the familiar figure in the corner, they immediately quieted down and lined up in an extremely orderly manner to get their food.

Even when eating, he spoke in a low voice.

"Don't tell me this is all because of you." Chen Feng glanced at the workers behind him, then looked at Xia Yingying with a puzzled expression and asked.

"I don't know, but I heard they were like this when I was here. Who knows?" Xia Yingying shrugged and took a sip of soup.

She was full.

"Amazing! You were really wasting your talents working in the mines before. You're a true leading lady!" Chen Feng laughed.

"It's all because the boss is always running around and never home. It's all out of necessity." Xia Yingying shook her head and sighed, gently wiping her mouth with a tissue.

After the three finished eating, they left the canteen. Chen Feng and Xia Yingying prepared to go home, while Chen Jianguo still had to lead the work at the mine.

After the three of them left, the atmosphere in the cafeteria immediately relaxed, and many people breathed a sigh of relief.

An older woman walked up to the group of older women and couldn't help but say, "You're too arrogant. Don't you know who that young man is?"

"Which young man wants to see the seasonings?" the leading woman asked, puzzled.

"Yes, you really don't know him?" the woman said, puzzled.

"I don't know him. How would I know him? What does he do? Is he a relative of the boss's wife?" the leading woman couldn't help but guess.

"You only know who the landlady is, but you don't know who the boss is?"

"He's the owner of this mine, Chen Feng. The older one is his father," the woman chuckled.

"Ah, he's the boss?" The leading lady was dumbfounded. Chen Feng, following behind Xia Yingying, didn't look like a boss at all.

He had assumed the mine owner would be a man in his thirties or forties.

"That's why I said you're really something, daring to snatch things from the boss's hands, you're amazing," the older woman laughed.

"Oh no, what should I do? The problem is I really don't know him. I didn't do it on purpose, and he didn't say he was the boss."

"What should I do? Have I offended him? Will he make things difficult for me?" the leading woman said anxiously, looking very nervous.

"No, it's not that bad. Actually, he's a very nice and kind person. As long as you do your job well, he won't cause you any trouble. He won't even take this to heart. Didn't you see he praised you when he left?"

The older woman told her to speak freely.

"He's magnanimous, as long as he's not like me. You know what a mess this has been. I've been so confused all day. I should have asked him first," the leading woman said, slapping her forehead.

Chen Feng and Xia Yingying returned home. After changing her clothes, Xia Yingying called Chen Feng to go to the backyard to feed the pigs.

"Giggle giggle~"

As soon as Xia Yingying took the food over, the two pigs immediately came over, stuck their heads in the food bowl, and started eating without even lifting their heads.

"See? My pet is so plump and healthy," Xia Yingying said with great pride.

“Indeed, look at Houqiu, he’d probably be too tender for stir-frying.” Chen Feng crossed his arms and nodded in deep agreement.

"Pah, all you do is eat all day long," Xia Yingying spat lightly.

Xia Yingying loves animals, so after she came to our home, she basically took care of feeding the chickens, ducks, and pigs.

This is the life she's always dreamed of—relaxed and carefree, with the possibility of raising cats and dogs sometime in the future.

"These two pigs must weigh between 230 and 240 pounds, right?" Chen Feng estimated.

"I don't know either, but my aunt said to raise it a little longer and kill it at the end of the year. Killing it now is a bit too early," Xia Yingying replied.

"Pigs are so cute, why would you eat them?" Chen Feng said in a high-pitched voice.

"Um?"

Xia Yingying smiled and looked at Chen Feng, "Isn't this my line? How did you beat me to it?"

"Is there anything else to feed?" Chen Feng asked, looking around.

"That's all. Just leave this bowl here. It will go to sleep after it has eaten its fill. You can pick it up tomorrow."

"Eat your fill and then sleep, just like some other people," Xia Yingying said, tossing her head as she walked ahead.

"Who said that? I check my phone before I go to sleep," Chen Feng snorted.

"Hehe, you put on a movie, and then you fell asleep in less than two minutes, making me listen to that movie all night. It's like you put it on for me."

"I was going to turn it off for you, but I ended up listening to it and it was actually quite interesting. I almost didn't listen to the second part," Xia Yingying complained.

"To tell you the truth, I watched that movie half a year ago, and I still don't know how it ends," Chen Feng grinned.

"If people knew you were here to help people sleep, they'd think you were just trying to boost your view count. What a die-hard fan!" Xia Yingying laughed.

And so, Chen Feng was preparing to hibernate in the village, unaware that elsewhere, the national special exploration team had already reached a dead end.

"Qi Minglin, how's it going lately?" The man on the other end of the phone sounded somewhat heavy.

The woman named Qi Minglin was wearing camouflage clothing, and her fairly pretty face was covered in sand and dust. Upon hearing this, her expression was not pleasant.

“We explored seven more locations, and at each location we installed at least forty and as many as seventy probes.”

"Aside from finding a trace element in one place, nothing else was found."
