When the doctor heard me ask this, he was stunned for a moment, then smiled as if he remembered something and said, "You had eye surgery when you were a child, so you probably don't remember it.

Then I remembered that my mother did ask me to go to the eye doctor for regular checkups and always asked me to use eye drops, saying that she was afraid that I would become nearsighted.
