Chapter 391 10 Small Goals
I looked up at my mother who was sitting opposite me and sneered secretly.
I deliberately placed my phone between Xiao Shiqiu and me. As expected, he looked over and saw the message my mom had sent. He said to me with some dissatisfaction, "Mengmeng, delete the post you just posted on your Moments."
I pretended to be confused: "Why?"
A look of pride immediately appeared on my mother's face.
"Why did you only take a picture of my chin? My face is not bad looking.
I've already gone home with you, so you can just make an official announcement on your WeChat Moments and give me a title. Isn't that too much to ask?" He said this with a somewhat rogue air.
Deputy Mayor Zhong laughed heartily upon hearing this. "Ms. Xia, Mr. Xiao has already decided that he is our son-in-law in City T. It's wrong for you to keep this a secret from everyone."
My dad also laughed and agreed, "Yes, yes, Shiqiu is such an outstanding young man, Mengmeng, you must cherish him."
He didn't mind at all that this "outstanding young man" was only a few years younger than him.
I took advantage of the situation and took a selfie with Xiao Shiqiu and posted it on WeChat Moments, [The blessings of our elders make our love last longer.]
"Mr. Xiao, now that you're the son-in-law of T City, you're half a T City person. Shouldn't you give T City priority when investing in projects in the future?"
Deputy Mayor Zhong's ulterior motives were laid bare on the table. The economic development of City T had always lagged behind that of its neighboring cities, and this time he had finally caught a fat sheep, and he would be unwilling not to fleece it.
He said casually, "After Mengmeng and I get engaged, I plan to invest in a project in City T in her name. The scale will be about 10 small projects."
My parents were stunned when this was said, while Vice Mayor Zhong was overjoyed. "Okay, okay, I congratulate you two in advance."
"Mr. Xia and Mrs. Xia are so lucky to have raised such an outstanding daughter. I hope she will benefit the people of her hometown in the future!"
The meal was a great success and everyone was satisfied except my mother.
When we got home, Deng Sisi and Aunt Wang were already there. Seeing us, Deng Sisi came out and took my mother's arm, saying, "Aunt, you're back. I'll go make tea for you."
She had a wronged yet pretending-to-be-strong smile on her face, but her eyes were red, and one could tell at a glance that she had been crying.
My mother immediately grabbed her hand with a distressed look and said, "Sister Wang will make the tea. Go back to your room, wash your face, and change your clothes."
Of course, the so-called changing of clothes was just an excuse. I think my mother wanted to comfort her.
Sure enough, my mother accompanied Deng Sisi into the guest room on the second floor, and they closed the door after they went in.
My eyes rolled, and I planned to eavesdrop on what they were talking about. I whispered to Xiao Shiqiu, "You stay here and chat with my dad for a while. I'll go listen to what my mom and Deng Sisi are talking about."
"Okay, don't worry, I will hold your dad back." He winked at me.
Next to the guest room on the second floor is a storage room, which contains many of my old things, including toys, awards, and some things that I liked when I was a child and have never been willing to throw away.
After I went in, I fumbled for a medical stethoscope with familiarity. My mother is a doctor, and when I was a child I loved playing the role of a doctor and treating my dolls.
After my repeated requests, my mother brought back an old stethoscope discarded by the hospital as a toy for me, and I have kept it until now.
I put the stethoscope against the wall and the voices from next door came through clearly.
"Sisi, don't be sad. Mom knows you've been wronged, but you're only my niece in name only. If I'm too supportive of you, your uncle will have objections too."
