Chapter 813 What’s so special about the thermos?
Director Wang's expression straightened up after hearing what Xiao Shiqiu said. He turned around and gestured "Follow me," leading us through one laboratory after another. I looked in through the window and saw people of all skin colors, making it look like the United Nations.
When you are almost at the end of the corridor, you will see an inconspicuous door. The only difference from other rooms is that there are no windows and no signs on the door.
There was a screen next to the door, which should be the unlocking device. Director Wang took out a pack of wet wipes from his trouser pocket, took out one and wiped his hands carefully. As he wiped, he explained to us, "This fingerprint lock has high precision. It won't recognize it if you don't wipe it clean."
I watched him wiping his fingers one by one, and wondered how many fingers it would take to unlock the door.
It was not until he slapped his entire palm on the screen that I realized belatedly that the fingerprint lock in my house is a real fingerprint. This fingerprint lock uses the entire palm, so every finger has to be wiped clean.
After a beep, an electronic female voice appeared, "Verification passed, Dr. Wang Yide, Clearance Level A."
The metal door opened with a click in the most unpretentious way. I thought it would open automatically like in the movies.
However, after entering the door, the scene inside surprised me.
This room is much bigger than I imagined, about the size of a basketball court. The LED lights on the ceiling illuminate every corner of the room very brightly, almost like a shadowless lamp.
The entire room space station is divided into several areas, each area displays different types of items.
At first glance, there are no futuristic and technological items as imagined. Instead, they are all very ordinary and common things, not even fashionable or beautiful in design.
Closest to the door is a row of glass display cabinets, which are neatly arranged with various daily necessities.
There is a pair of black-framed glasses in the cabinet that look like a nerd. The frames are square, and when worn, they give off the stereotypical nerd look.
The only difference is that the temples seem to be thicker than those of ordinary glasses. If you look closely, you can see a very small dot at the connection between the temples and the frame.
"Does this pair of glasses have a camera and can take pictures?" I asked smartly.
"These are more than just for taking photos," Director Wang said cheerfully, taking the glasses from me. "They have night vision capabilities, and in an emergency, the temples can be removed to act as a small electric shock device, saving your life."
There are a bunch of daily gadgets in the glass cabinet, and there are no instructions. If no one explains them, I really don’t know what they are used for.
Soon, my attention was drawn to some clothes hanging in the middle of the room.
There were a few jackets and pants, and a few ordinary-looking hooded sweatshirts.
I casually touched the sweatshirt and it felt no different from an ordinary cotton sweatshirt.
"Is there something special about this dress? Is it fireproof and bulletproof?" My imagination began to run wild.
Director Wang laughed and said, "Haha, girl, you're too kind to us. I also hope to be able to conquer such a thin and loose bulletproof vest one day."
He picked up the sweatshirt and pressed an almost invisible dot on the cuff, and the whole thing suddenly turned dark blue, then changed into a camouflage pattern.
"This is a chameleon fabric," he explained. "It can change into ten colors and patterns. When you're being followed, it can change color in a second, buying the wearer time to get away."
I looked at the dress in amazement. "Buying one is like buying ten pieces of clothing. It would be great if this fabric could be made into a variety of styles. It would save a lot of space in the wardrobe."
Xiao Shiqiu put his arm around my shoulders and said, "Don't worry, clothes made from this kind of fabric are so expensive that you'll think it's more cost-effective to buy a few more wardrobes."
Well, he said it was expensive clothes, and I don’t want to know the price anymore.
A row of shelves against the wall held all sorts of oddly shaped gadgets.
A small silver box that looked like a gum box piqued my curiosity.
"Is this some kind of communication device?" I made a conservative guess.
Director Wang picked up the small box and opened it, revealing a deck of cards.
"This is……"
"Each card is a separate eavesdropping device," Lin said, pulling out an Ace of Spades. "You can stick it on a wall and eavesdrop through 30 centimeters of concrete. But it's a one-time use, only effective for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, even if someone discovers it, it'll just be an ordinary playing card."
While Wen Congwu was pestering Director Wang with questions, I noticed that in the corner of the cabinet against the wall was an ordinary-looking thermos cup, completely black with only a silver rim around the mouth.
I picked it up and opened the lid. There was still water inside. I shook it and it seemed there were still a few wolfberries.
But what appears here is definitely not an ordinary item.
"Director Wang, is there anything special about this cup?" I asked humbly.
Director Wang looked back and his eyes lit up. "So it's right here! I've been looking for it for two days."
He reached out and took the cup. "This is very heat-insulating. Look, it's still warm after two days."
That's it? I was a little confused, "No other functions?"
"What else do I need a thermos for? My wife bought this for me, and if I lose it, she'll scold me."
Okay, I was overthinking it.
Wen Congwu had already reached a glass cabinet at the back, which contained several small boxes that looked like ordinary contact lenses.
"Director Wang, please take this out and have a look. I think this should be good." Wen Congwu shouted bluntly, as if he was here to shop.
"This is our latest iris projector," he said, carefully pulling out a box. "When you wear it, it can project holographic images and data directly onto your retina."
Wen Congwu began to rub his hands again: "This is good! How long can it keep working?"
"The current version can be used continuously for 12 hours," said Lin Gong, "but it's still being improved."
There was also something in the corner that looked like an ordinary suitcase, with a silver shell and black handles.
Seeing me looking at the suitcase, Director Wang took the initiative to introduce, "This is a box that can shield X-detection equipment." He opened the suitcase, and it looked like an ordinary suitcase inside, but his hand fumbled around the bottom for a few times, and a partition popped up. Under the partition was a flat plate, and there was some space on the side for some small items.
"Anything placed in the compartment will not be detected, and electronic devices will not detect any signals. When you go through security, only the things placed on it will appear on the screen."
