Chapter 105 Escape

We arrived at the South Station of S City late at night.

Chen Wenzhi pushed two suitcases, while the girl beside him rubbed her swollen eyes from crying.

"Don't keep rubbing your eyes," Chen Wenzhi said bitterly, watching her movements. "It's bad for your eyes."

"Okay." Ying Qian pouted, snatched her suitcase from his hand, and placed her other hand on his arm.

"What are you doing?" A faint smile appeared on his handsome face as Chen Wenzhi tilted his head to look at her.

She was extremely serious, saying, "I want to get closer to you, because I'm afraid you'll leave me behind."

Chen Wenzhi was amused by her words, grabbed her hand, his heart pounding, "Then let's keep walking like this, until the end of eternity, okay?"

The answer is obvious.

Ying Qian said, "Okay, you said it, you can't go back on your word."

Returning to S City, I immediately felt a sense of relief.

It seemed that everything in Qincheng was just a dream at that moment.

Stepping out of the South Station, the dark sky was dotted with stars, twinkling with dazzling light.

I got home around 1 a.m.

As Ying Qian walked into her home, she received a friend request.

The reason given by the other party for the application was: Little sister, I am the landlord.

Without thinking, she clicked "agree".

The other end immediately sent a message: "Aren't you asleep yet, it's so late?"

Ying Qian frowned, a smile playing on her lips. She thought this person was a bit too familiar. Could he really be the landlord? He must be a very interesting person.

She replied, "You don't have any either, do you?"

Landlord: [It's daytime here, little sister. Does your brother live with you now?]

She walked toward the sofa while replying to messages.

[No. ]

Landlord: [Okay, I can't reach him, his phone is off.]

His smile froze on his lips. Turn off his phone? Meng Beiyan's phone was off? How could that be? He never turns his phone off!

She frantically called Meng Beiyan.

Sure enough, it said, "The number you dialed is currently switched off."

She collapsed onto the sofa, her heart pounding louder than her breathing, her head throbbing with pain.

She kept trying to call Meng Beiyan, but the call still wouldn't go through by the next morning. She was really panicking. What should she do if something had really happened to Meng Beiyan?

She was overwhelmed by a pain as if a thousand arrows were piercing her heart.

The cell phone rang.

She picked it up immediately; the note had two words that evoked memories: Mom.

She answered the call, and the woman's voice was soft yet still very sarcastic: "Ying Qian, tell me, is Meng Beiyan with you? Where is he?"

The woman's voice was very rapid. Why was even her mother looking for Meng Beiyan?

Why is everyone looking for him?

What exactly happened to him?

what to do?

Ying Qian panicked even more, her hands trembling uncontrollably, and her words, broken after a sleepless night, were fragmented: "I...I...I don't know..."

She was going crazy; if Meng Beiyan didn't show up soon, she was going to call the police.

Just then, the doorbell rang.

She rushed to open the door, but everything went black as she collapsed heavily onto the tiles. A sharp pain shot through her, but she forced herself to get up and asked into the phone, "What happened? If Meng Beiyan isn't with you, who else could he be with? How have you been lately?"

She hung up the phone, took two steps, but the pain and weakness caused her to collapse again. She dropped her phone, used her hands to propel her body forward, crawled to the door, and with all her might, braced herself against the doorknob and opened the door. Her sixth sense told her: the door had to be opened.

That's right, that's right this time. The person in front of me is Meng Beiyan. He is wearing a suit, looking very proper, spirited, and full of energy.

She was disheveled, her hair a mess, and her eyes were blank. You could only vaguely make out her questioning and doubt. Without saying a word, she collapsed into his arms, soft and boneless, her mind filled with memories of the past.

Upon seeing this, Meng Beiyan's pupils dilated suddenly, and every cell in his body tensed up. He hugged her, hurriedly used her phone to call for an ambulance, and rushed out with Ying Qian in his arms.

Time seemed to stand still, and the air seemed to have stopped flowing. The whole world was shrouded in layers of smog, obscuring not only the sunlight but also everything else, as if covered by a veil, hidden from the light.

The siren of the ambulance alerted Chen Wenzhi, who was tending to his flowers.

He was the only one at home, so naturally, all the flowers his parents gave him ended up on his head.

He saw the man holding the girl.

Sensing something was wrong, I went back inside, put on a coat, and rushed out.

I hailed a taxi and instructed the driver to "catch up with the ambulance ahead."

Thankfully, there was no traffic jam, thankfully...

He saw the girl's face on the stretcher clearly, and his thoughts collapsed at that moment. He rushed forward without thinking, violently shoving Meng Beiyan away: "Get away! Get away from me—"

Before I knew it, large tears were falling.

The security guards pulled him back to prevent him from doing anything further outrageous.

His bloodshot eyes were filled only with anger, yet he couldn't break free from the security guard's control.

All eyes were on them.

Meng Beiyan said righteously, "Chen Wenzhi! This is not a place for you to act recklessly! The person lying on the stretcher right now is my sister, not anyone to you!"

“She’s not—she’s not your sister—” Hot tears fell to the ground, the dripping sound drowned out by the noisy emergency room.

Only the deafening sound of heartbreak could be heard.

But only Chen Wenzhi could hear it.

Chen Wenzhi shook off the security guard's hand and followed the medical staff and Meng Beiyan.

Professional medical terminology leaked from the doctor's mouth and then into his ears.

He didn't understand, but he felt it was very serious.

Before I knew it, tears were falling again.

*

The first person Ying Qian saw when she woke up was Chen Wenzhi, who was holding her hand and asleep by the bedside.

She couldn't remember what had happened.

Just thinking about it gives me a headache, and she can't move her legs; it looks like they're in a cast.

It seems to be because of Meng Beiyan, right? Has he gone home?

She quietly looked at the sleeping Chen Wenzhi, who looked aggrieved, his mouth pursed, his long, thick eyelashes resting on his eyelids like butterflies.

The sun shines brightly outside the window, and the withered tree cannot block the sunlight.

Sunlight streamed in and fell directly on her.

Chen Wenzhi slowly opened his eyes, startled: "You're awake!?"

"Yes, she's awake." Ying Qian said with a smile.

Chen Wenzhi was annoyed by her relaxed demeanor: "I was so worried! How could you be so reckless? What could possibly happen to Meng Beiyan, an adult?"

"...I can't remember." She said innocently, "I really can't remember."

Chen Wenzhi was skeptical.

However, she'd better really not remember.

In this way, her emotions will gradually recover.

The doctor said she couldn't remember some things because her brain was deliberately hiding them; in other words, her subconscious was avoiding them.

As for what they're trying to escape.

Chen Wenzhi knew perfectly well what was going on.
