Chapter 113

After spending a few days in the countryside, the group had had their fill of fun.

I'm packing my bags and getting ready to go back.

Grandma couldn't bear to part with these children, so she insisted on giving them several boxes of pure milk to take back with them.

"Oh dear, I'm getting on in years, and I don't usually drink this pure milk. It's been sitting at home for ages and it's about to expire. You young people need to take care of your health!"

Chen Wenzhi and Ying Qian looked at each other, and Chen Wenzhi nodded slightly. Ying Qian then reached out and took the box of milk.

Of course, Ren Yi also has it.

Grandpa also helped pack the luggage, and prepared a bag of bok choy, saying, "It's homegrown, so it's healthy."

Every time I go back to my hometown, I always return with a full load of gifts.

Winter days are short and it gets dark early. In the evening, Grandma cooked a few home-style dishes, which were steaming hot. The atmosphere at the dinner table was quite pleasant because Grandpa and Grandma had been invited to have dinner at the village committee's house.

No one spoke at the dinner table. Chen Wenzhi skillfully placed a chicken wing into Ying Qian's bowl, then focused on eating.

Ying Qian glanced at him, and couldn't help but raise the corners of her mouth.

Seeing this, Ren Yi pouted and immediately felt that he should do something too, so he kept piling food into Shen Yun's bowl, such as chicken wings, fish, and cabbage... He put them all into her bowl.

?

If punctuation marks could be visualized, then Shen Yun believed there must be a big question mark above her head.

The small bowl was piled high with vegetables.

They looked at each other, and then couldn't help but laugh.

"Ren Yi, I can't possibly finish all of this..." Shen Yun said softly.

Ren Yi swallowed hard, glancing somewhat awkwardly at Ying Qian and Chen Wenzhi sitting to his side, who were trying not to laugh. "Then let's switch bowls! I'll eat!"

He awkwardly moved the bowl to face him.

Turning her head, she saw bright, clear eyes, which were also smiling.

He pitifully lowered his head and ate his rice.

"Slow down, don't choke." Chen Wenzhi had a faint smile on his face.

Although it was a lighthearted remark, Ren Yi felt it was mockery! Such blatant mockery!

"..." He angrily shoveled down a few mouthfuls of rice, then looked at Shen Yun pleadingly, "Help me..."

Shen Yun sighed helplessly, "Give it to me if you can't finish it."

Ren Yi couldn't bear to let her eat his leftovers. He lingered on her for a moment, pursed his lips, and finished all the rice and vegetables in one go.

"Awesome!" Ying Qian gave a thumbs up, her mind filled with the image of Chen Wenzhi eating heartily.

He was always refined and self-possessed, rarely acting rashly or impulsively.

"What are you thinking about?" A cool voice seemed to come from my mind.

By then, everyone had finished eating.

Ying Qian shook her head vigorously, as if she had done something wrong, "Nothing, nothing!" Then she helped to tidy up the table.

Chen Wenzhi washed the dishes.

Shen Yun offered to help, but Ren Yi stopped her, saying, "He's always been like this, a master at washing dishes. Go take a shower and go to bed early tonight; your train is at seven tomorrow morning."

"A master at washing dishes?" Upon hearing this, Ying Qian smiled. She took a shower first, put on her military overcoat, and went to the kitchen.

He left only a weary back view, his excellent height and frame, and the pure white sweater added to his "married man" feel. He was sensitive to sound, and paused, clearly having realized who it was.

But he didn't say anything and continued with his own business.

Ying Qian tiptoed up behind him and suddenly covered his... glasses?

Oh ho.

Ying Qian forgot that Chen Wenzhi wears glasses.

Well, that's great. She couldn't help but laugh out loud, and then, following the procedure, asked, "Guess who I am?"

“Fool…” he said in a low voice, then wiped the water off his hands.

Ying Qian nervously withdrew her hand. He took off his glasses, and the frameless glasses lay quietly beside the pool.

Chen Wenzhi caught the scent of her shower gel, leaned down slightly to meet her gaze. Her eyes were still so clear, and even in the dim light, her embarrassment was still completely evident.

"...Why don't you wear contact lenses?" she muttered softly.

Chen Wenzhi frowned, as if he had a new idea. "So, do you think I look better in glasses or contact lenses?"

As if she had expected this question to come out of his mouth, Ying Qian reached out and cupped his face, examining it carefully. She said slowly, "Your face is beautiful even without eyes."

"Is this how you always compliment people?" Chen Wenzhi couldn't help but chuckle. "Unique."

Ying Qian thought to herself: How embarrassing!

"Alright, if you're wearing shorts, don't wander around here. Aren't you cold?"

The boy's sharp gaze swept over her body from top to bottom. She casually tied her hair into a bun, her face flushed, her moist lips pressed into a thin line, her military coat reaching her knees, and her beige shorts just past her knees.

Only after he said that did Ying Qian realize she was cold. She shivered involuntarily, lowered her eyes, pulled her clothes tighter, and replied, "I understand!"

Chen Wenzhi sighed, "Wearing shorts in the dead of winter, who else but you're going to get sick?"

"Well, I usually only wear shorts at home anyway," she argued.

"It's my fault, I didn't tell you there's no underfloor heating in your hometown." Chen Wenzhi ruffled her hair. "Alright, go back to sleep."

With her sharp eyes, she grabbed Chen Wenzhi's hand, which was red from the cold water and looked like it was about to develop frostbite. Her face immediately darkened: "You have a water heater at home, right?"

"Yes." Chen Wenzhi narrowed his eyes, unsure of what Ying Qian was going to say.

She covered Chen Wenzhi's hands with her own and scolded him in a low voice, "They're all red from the cold. What's wrong with using some hot water? And you're the one talking about me? Don't you know how to take care of yourself?"

Chen Wenzhi tilted his head and smiled.

"Still laughing! How can you laugh like that..." Ying Qian glanced at the washed pots and pans and the countertop that was so clean it looked like a mirror, then pulled the person into the room.

Shen Yun was taking a shower at that moment, and there was no one else in the room.

Under Chen Wenzhi's gaze, she rummaged through her suitcase and pulled out a box of ointment, forcefully stuffing it into Chen Wenzhi's pocket. "Here, apply this to your hands after you shower tonight to prevent frostbite."

"Mmm. That's nice."

"What's so good?" Ying Qian was only concerned about his hands and naturally had no time to appreciate his words.

Chen Wenzhi smiled, his eyes sparkling, and said, "It's so nice to have someone who cares about you."

"What nonsense are you talking about?" Ying Qian sat on the edge of the bed, still holding his hand. "Why is no one concerned about you? Don't your parents care? Don't your grandparents care?"

Instead of thanking me here, you should go and properly fulfill your filial duties to them.

Upon hearing this, fragments of memories flashed through Chen Wenzhi's mind, a cold glint in his eyes that vanished in an instant, and he nodded obediently, "That makes sense."

"You have to take me fishing next time you come back!" Ying Qian changed the subject very quickly. "We didn't catch any this time, but next time I'll shine! Hahaha—"

His eyes, which had been clouded with gloom, suddenly cleared up and became bright.

Chen Wenzhi hummed in agreement, "Definitely."
