Chapter 115 Once Upon a Time

"I'll pick you up and bring you to my place in a few days."

Meng Beiyan distanced himself from her, trying his best to control his emotions and calm down.

Ying Qian nodded, cautiously raising her eyes to observe his expression.

In front of his sister, he always wore his emotions on his sleeve, or rather, he deliberately exposed his emotions in order to make Ying Qian notice them, to make her afraid or concerned.

"Alright, stop being so gloomy," he said, glancing at Ying Qian.

"No, I just woke up and I'm a little groggy."

Meng Beiyan's lips trembled slightly. He turned around and ruffled her hair, which she obediently accepted. He whispered, "I really want to go back to the way things were before. Don't you want to?"

Ying Qian paused for a moment, then shook her head.

"People always have to move forward," she said.

"That's true." Meng Beiyan chuckled and then got up to go to the kitchen.

The living room was completely empty; you could hear a pin drop.

She looked up and saw the clothes hanging on the balcony; the tears in her eyes welled up and disappeared…

Just then, my phone rang.

Ying Qian picked it up; it was Chen Wenzhi.

Chen Wenzhi: [Is Meng Beiyan here?]

Ying Qian: [How did you know?]

Chen Wenzhi: [I saw him; his attitude towards me was as bad as ever.]

Upon seeing this message, she couldn't help but laugh.

"Just eat at home these next few days. I've bought all the groceries for you. Don't always order takeout. You're not well, so you need to take care of yourself." The voice came from the kitchen. "I know you might complain that I don't care about you much."

“I’m quite busy with work, but I’ll try my best to make time for you. When school starts, I’ll pick you up every night, just like when you first moved to my place.”

Ying Qian walked barefoot into the kitchen.

Seeing Meng Beiyan's guilty expression, she unconsciously hugged him.

"Thank you."

"I've said it many times, you're not allowed to say thank you to me."

"Um."

"Also, I'll figure out how to deal with my mom. She definitely won't bother you anymore. Just focus on your studies." Meng Beiyan patted her back. "I won't interfere too much in your relationship with Chen Wenzhi. But remember, until you come of age, I will be your only guardian. You can't do anything out of line."

A weak "hmm" came from the chest.

“Ying Qian, don’t think that anyone understands you better than yourself, and the rest of your life is not so easy to entrust to someone else.”

After thinking for a long time, he finally revealed his position to Ying Qian, and also to himself.

The body temperature in his arms was very low. Meng Beiyan really wanted to warm her up, but she was naturally cold-blooded and he couldn't warm her up no matter what he did.

"knew……"

No matter what, Meng Beiyan is still the older brother. Regardless of blood relation, he is the one who cares about Ying Qian, and he will always stand on Ying Qian's side.

In the dimly lit kitchen, only heavy breathing could be heard.

Feelings began to blossom.

"Ying Qian, I miss you so much. It's been a week since we last met. I can't be with you like Chen Wenzhi can, and we don't have anything in common. But remember, I love you too."

A deep voice sounded from above.

"I love you too, brother." She looked up, her smile radiant.

This love is only for my brother; it has nothing to do with romantic love.

Meng Beiyan knew exactly what she meant, and with a wry smile, he said, "Alright, I understand."

Why can it only be the older brother?

As night fell, it unexpectedly started snowing.

The snow is falling heavily.

Meng Beiyan said, "I'm not going back tonight; I'll sleep in the guest room."

Ying Qian stuffed a wonton into her mouth and said, "Okay, I'll go make your bed."

"No, I can do it myself." He stopped her.

He hadn't felt this sense of alienation in a long time. He forced a smile as he entered the guest room and began tidying up with practiced ease, making the bed and blankets in one go.

The scalding liquid fell onto the sheets.

In the end, he didn't say a word, but stood at the door of the guest room looking at Ying Qian, who was standing on the balcony in a daze.

She might not have been daydreaming; perhaps Chen Wenzhi was downstairs.

Snowflakes were falling heavily outside the window.

He dared not imagine whether Chen Wenzhi would really stand in the snow to make her happy.

Thinking about it, I unconsciously walked to my sister's side.

Following my sister's gaze, there was no one in the small courtyard downstairs. The snow covered the plum blossoms in the cold, and I didn't know what she was looking at, but her eyes were fixed on the courtyard.

It took me a while to realize that someone was already standing next to me.

Ying Qian turned her head and smiled at him.

"Snow isn't anything special. The balcony isn't as warm as the house. You're not in good health and you catch colds easily. Come in."

"I want to stand here a little longer. I love snow, I really love it."

As soon as he finished speaking, Meng Beiyan understood. He picked up a suit jacket from the sofa and draped it over Ying Qian. The person beneath him trembled, like a frightened kitten. She glanced at him nervously, then looked away.

Meng Beiyan frowned, pondering: What exactly was she afraid of?

"Go home if you get cold." He said with a hint of helplessness, but more so to comfort himself.

Ying Qian nodded and responded.

Meng Beiyan actually began to envy Chen Wenzhi; he wished he were Chen Wenzhi.

Speak of the devil, and he appears; a knock on the door immediately followed.

They knocked three times politely, seemingly certain that someone was home.

Meng Beiyan went to open the door.

The boy's eyebrows and eyes were covered in snow, and his slightly lowered phoenix eyes added a touch of coldness to his appearance.

Anticipating that the person opening the door would most likely not be Ying Qian, Chen Wenzhi didn't react much and responded with a smile.

Ying Qian ran over from the balcony, a smile on her face.

What brings you here?

"What's wrong with me coming?" Chen Wenzhi took his hand out from behind his back; it was a small cake. "Didn't you say you wanted to eat cakes from this shop? I bought it for you."

Ying Qian was overjoyed and rushed over to give him a hug.

Meng Beiyan remained silent, while Chen Wenzhi's gaze was clearly provocative.

At this moment, Meng Beiyan seemed like an outsider. He snorted coldly, turned around, and went into his room, thinking that out of sight, out of mind.

"Eat less tonight, it's too cold, I'm afraid you can't handle it. I won't stay any longer, the class has started online evening self-study, I'm already five minutes late." Chen Wenzhi shook his head, sighed helplessly, and patted his head.

Ying Qian nuzzled him a few times before deciding to let him go.

"Aren't you going to try to persuade me to stay?" he asked childishly.

"What's the point of keeping you here?" Ying Qian took a step back. "You can't make me the center of your world. Your own life is the most important thing."

"That's true."

Chen Wenzhi laughed, "It's just spoiling my girlfriend."

Ying Qian gave him a push in an annoyed manner. He staggered, grabbed Ying Qian's hand, and held it for a while until Ying Qian felt her hand become warm.

"Your hands are so cold. You must have been standing on the balcony for a long time, right?" he suddenly asked.

"Hmm, how did you know?"

“You came running over from the balcony all by yourself, how could I not see you?” he said with a hint of heartache. “Tell me all your troubles… bottling them up will hurt your health.”
