Chapter 45 Family Ties Without Blood Relations

This atmosphere is so eerie!

Ying Qian shrank back and asked in a low voice, "Brother, can you let go first?"

"Then promise me," he whispered seductively behind her ear, "don't mention boarding school again..."

"You must remember, from now on, it won't be my mother who will take care of you, it will only be me, understand?" His voice was extremely gentle as he stepped back, but he did not release Ying Qian from his restraints.

Ying Qian paused for a moment, then looked into his eyes.

It was almost a paranoid threat.

She had never seen that look in her eyes before, especially not from Meng Beiyan.

She was a little scared and nervously avoided his gaze.

Meng Beiyan frowned. "Naughty." He raised his hand and lifted her chin, still gentle. "Look into my eyes and tell me, you promise me."

“I…” Her throat was dry, and she choked out, “I promise you.”

She gave a slight smile. "Who am I?"

"You are Brother Beiyan..."

She was greeted with an even deeper embrace; he wanted to crush her, to knead her into his own body.

He cherishes this girl so much.

The girl in his arms didn't react much, awkwardly placing her hand on his back in response to the hug. Since she couldn't move away, she would just take good care of Meng Beiyan...

At least, if something happens, there's someone to confide in.

Meng Beiyan frowned, his nostrils filled with her unique fragrance. He savored the scent, then suddenly remembered something and asked, "Can anyone hug you whenever they want?"

Or is it that only I can do this?

“Very few people have held me.” Ying Qian recalled that apart from her unreliable father, there really wasn’t anyone who had ever properly held her.

Meng Beiyan is one of them. When he lived with Ying Qian's family, he cried a lot. She wasn't good at comforting people; she would just hug them and pat their backs.

This trick might not work for others, but it should be extremely effective for Meng Beiyan.

Ying Qian said bitterly, "Besides, no one wants to hug me. They all think I'm not good-looking and don't like me."

She seemed annoyed, and chuckled softly, "But I don't like them either!"

His eyes darkened, perhaps with some relief, and he comforted her, "You'll always meet someone you like, someone who's good to you. You're very beautiful, have a great personality, and are very likable."

Meng Beiyan released Ying Qian, and it was clear that he felt much more comfortable; his obsessive demeanor had also disappeared.

A hug is a good medicine.

"That kid seems to like you a lot, doesn't he?" Meng Beiyan asked tentatively, narrowing his eyes.

Ying Qian immediately understood who he was talking about. Just thinking about him made her feel better, and she smiled unconsciously, a hint of smugness on her face. "Of course, isn't Chen Wenzhi completely infatuated with me?"

“I like him quite a bit too.” She lowered her eyes, recalling something. “Perhaps from the first moment I saw him, there was bound to be a story between us.”

Meng Beiyan smiled slightly, not surprised by the answer. Just as he was about to go to the kitchen to cook, he remembered something and casually told her, "Your dad is getting married on the second day of next month, and he doesn't want you to know."

A silence followed. The hustle and bustle of the outside world seemed to have stopped at that moment.

"Then why are you telling me?" Ying Qian asked, tilting her head back.

He shrugged, offered no explanation, and plunged into the kitchen.

The only sound in the house was the whirring of the range hood.

Ying Qian stood frozen in the bright lights of the living room. She felt like her head was about to explode. She clutched her chest and lay down on the sofa, the whole world distorted and blurred.

My heart felt like it was being torn apart, and all the muscles in my body ached terribly.

I wanted to cry, but I felt there was nothing to shed tears for.

Is it worth it?

She doesn't know how many tears she has shed or how many sleepless nights she has spent because of these trivial matters.

Now Mom has found a home abroad, and Dad is getting married; everything has settled down.

She opened her lips, wanting to speak, but couldn't utter a word. All her strength seemed to have left her, and she could only lie there helplessly, quietly processing everything.

And what about myself? In this war without gunfire, the ultimate victim is myself, a child no one wants.

She was just an unwanted child; all those happy moments of the past had become illusions, bursting without a trace like bubbles.

A tall figure loomed over them.

"If you're sad, just cry." Meng Beiyan's long eyelashes swept across a silhouette as he sat down next to her. "I didn't mean to make you sad; I just thought this shouldn't be kept from you."

“I should thank you…” Ying Qian caught a glimpse of the sorrow on his face, and tears streamed down her cheeks.

"..."

"The tears are for you, not for my family, brother. I still want to say thank you."

“Sometimes I really feel it’s unnecessary.” Ying Qian looked away, no longer looking at the people around her.

"You have no obligation to take care of me. We are not related by blood, there is no such thing as blood ties between us." She said calmly, tears streaming down her face without her realizing it.

Her voice was steady, and the tears did not seem to affect her.

Meng Beiyan raised his hand, and she leaned on his shoulder.

She continued, "Aunt Tang doesn't want me to continue affecting your life, and neither do I. To you, I'm just a burden. I don't understand why you don't want me to leave."

“Since my parents divorced, almost everyone has been pushing me away. I even feel like I can’t go on living. I’m a complete failure, only able to hold others back…”

But when life really hit rock bottom, Tang Yawen took her to S City.
