Chapter Seventeen: Come with Me

A few days later, the rain stopped, the sun shone brightly, but the wind still felt like a knife cutting into your face.

Since the joint exam results came out, no one in the class has dared to talk about Ying Qian anymore.

The students who were originally among the top in the grade also noticed this "unexpected disaster".

After finishing their morning exercises, the boys rushed to the toilets, hogging all the faucets.

The girl's occasional complaints seemed insignificant.

Ying Qian was so exhausted that she collapsed. Her face was flushed, and she was panting heavily with her face pressed against the cold table. Sweat dripped from her forehead into her hollow collarbone.

Someone pushed a pack of tissues towards me.

Ying Qian's gaze followed his hand inch by inch to the boy's face, and unconsciously the corners of her mouth curved into a beautiful smile, while her heart pounded faster rather than slower.

His eyes were slightly red at the corners; at that moment, his hormones were at their peak.

Running exercises were a breeze for Chen Wenzhi. His breathing was steady, and his complexion didn't change much, except that he had more beads of sweat on his forehead and nose.

He stared down at the vocabulary list at the back of his English book, while his left hand rubbed the cap of a mineral water bottle a few times before he used his fingertips to pry it open.

Then he tilted his head back and drank a few mouthfuls of water.

His prominent, sexy Adam's apple bobbed several times, and crystal-clear mineral water overflowed from his mouth, flowing down the corners of his lips. He wiped it haphazardly with his sleeve.

Ying Qian didn't miss his every move. She couldn't help but swallow, took a deep breath, straightened up, tore open the packaging bag, pulled out a tissue, and carefully wiped the sweat from her face.

She's been in a much better mood these past two days, and she firmly believes that sunny days can make people happier!

But running exercises was terrifying, a full 1700 meters...

Although she did not complete the entire course.

After resting for a while, Ying Qian's temples still throbbed, and her sweat glands were still sweating. She fanned herself with a book, "Are they trying to kill a weakling like me by making us do morning exercises?"

Chen Wenzhi shifted his pupils slightly in her direction, fluttered his eyelashes a few times, and slowly replied, "Theoretically speaking, that's how it is."

"Old Chen! Want to go out and have some fun this weekend? My treat!" Leaning against the back door frame was a guy who looked like he was hard to please.

The boy's buzz cut was eye-catching, and his almost bronze skin was an even bigger highlight.

Ying Qian frowned. She seemed to have some impression of that person. He was the boy who accompanied Chen Wenzhi to buy fried skewers when they first met.

Chen Wenzhi's eyes, besides their usual coldness, also held a hint of annoyance.

He only glanced at Wei Ji sideways before turning back to continue memorizing vocabulary.

Ying Qian burst out laughing.

Chen Wenzhi glared at her, and she immediately covered her mouth and fell silent.

She looked sympathetically at the boy at the back door who was already used to it and didn't care.

He seemed to realize the girl was looking at him, scratched his head awkwardly, his smile became stiff, and he slunk away through the back door.

"Sister Yingqian, can you come to my house tomorrow?" A soft, sweet voice suddenly broke the noise. "Many of my classmates are going..."

Ying Qian was still in a daze from running, and after a few seconds, she hummed in response.

She was still wondering if tomorrow was some special day.

Shen Yun explained, "Tomorrow is my birthday..."

Ying Qian immediately understood and nodded, assuring him, "I will definitely go tomorrow."

Overjoyed, Shen Yun took Ying Qian's warm hand and said, "I'm really happy that you agreed!"

"It's okay, we're friends."

A flicker of anger flashed in his eyes as he murmured the word "friend," a smile spreading across his pale face.

After she left.

Ying Qian pouted, listlessly twirling her pen, her eyes fixed blankly on the classical Chinese text on the exam paper on the table, her gaze utterly empty.

Suddenly, an idea struck her, and Ying Qian quietly moved to her side.

Chen Wenzhi coughed a few times, then gently patted her soft hair twice, signaling her to behave herself.

She could tell at a glance that Chen Wenzhi's mind was not on the vocabulary list at all.

So, without any restraint, I poked his waist with my hand; if I'm not mistaken, that should be where his kidneys are...

He already felt embarrassed, and after all this, his cheeks quickly turned red. He glared at her, but could only shake his head helplessly.

He couldn't do anything with her. For some reason, a force within him prevented him from feeling any dislike. "What do you want to ask?"

"Hey, did Shen Yun invite you?" Ying Qian grinned, bursting with curiosity.

Chen Wenzhi stiffened slightly and replied calmly, "I've been invited."

"Are you interested in going?" she said, reaching out to stroke Chen Wenzhi's wrist, her fingers rubbing against his wrist bone. Her lips, glistening with moisture, parted slightly: "Go with your pretty deskmate."

He let Ying Qian do as she pleased, his lowered eyelashes casting a shadow beneath his eyes, and said truthfully, "I have already refused."

Ying Qian had already expected this. Her shrewd eyes narrowed, and she pinched him slightly. "Don't worry~ I'll tell Shen Yun that it was my sincere words that moved you!"

"...I'll reluctantly agree."

Ying Qian let go of his hand, pointed at his face and warned, "No taking it back!"

Chen Wenzhi's Adam's apple bobbed, his gaze calm and gentle, and he raised his hand to grasp her raised fingers.

“Don’t point your finger at people, it’s impolite,” he said. “If you run into someone who takes it personally, you’ll get beaten up.”

Ying Qian nodded, unconcerned, and reached out to poke Wei Ji's back again.

He turned around, his brow furrowed, clearly displeased: "What?"

They wouldn't even say the three-word phrase "What are you doing?"

Are you going tomorrow?

"Go." He turned his head away, constantly studying the differences between his test paper and Ying Qian's test paper.
