Ying Qian was curious why she couldn't show it to her directly, but instead sent a message.
She opened the message.
The girl in the photo is about the same age as Ying Qian, with her hair in a bun, a bright and cheerful smile, every strand of hair beautiful. She is wearing a school uniform, making a peace sign next to her cheek. The boy next to her looks melancholy and incredibly youthful, his arm around the girl's shoulder, his head leaning towards her, his face showing an excitement Ying Qian had never seen before.
Behind us, the sky was ablaze with rosy clouds.
She wasn't stupid; of course she noticed the resemblance between the girl and herself, and finally understood why Shen Chang had taken such good care of her from the very first meeting.
A body double? Ying Qian didn't care.
"Is this Senior Sister Xi Yin?"
"Hmm." Shen Yun sighed, his voice stiff. "Did you discover something?"
"Me and..." she started to say, then realized her age was wrong and immediately corrected herself, "I look a lot like her."
She felt nothing, just a bit surprised. They looked like sisters, not only in their eyes and eyebrows, but also in their expressions...
No wonder some senior high school students mistook her for Xi Yin on the day of the sports meet.
All the nonsensical questions were answered.
Shen Yun's expression was not good. He seemed to be recalling some past events, staring intently at the photo on his phone, and remained silent for a long time.
Ying Qian guessed that she must miss Xi Yin very much...
Her eyes were brimming with suppressed anger, and with just a blink, large teardrops would immediately slide down her cheeks.
Ying Qian spoke first, asking, "Has Chen Wenzhi met her?"
Shen Yun suddenly smiled, tears welling in his eyes, "I've seen it before, this photo was taken by him."
Ying Qian's heart clenched, and she felt a pang of disappointment.
Shen Chang's feelings for her stemmed from Xi Yin, but what about Chen Wenzhi's? Was it also because of Xi Yin? Was it also because of her face, which bore a striking resemblance to her senior?
My mind suddenly became a jumbled mess, a tangled ball of yarn that I couldn't untangle no matter what I did.
My chest feels like it's blocked by something, a dull, aching pain.
Chen Yun's tears fell like a broken string, and she suddenly threw herself into Ying Qian's arms, sobbing loudly, "Sister Ying Qian, I miss her so much. I thought she would be my sister-in-law... but..."
She simply couldn't accept the fact that Xi Yin was no longer alive.
Ying Qian had never experienced anything like this before and couldn't truly empathize. She gently patted the girl's back with her right hand to comfort her, repeatedly saying, "Don't cry, don't cry..."
Shen Yun didn't feel much better.
The two of them lay on their sides on the sofa and watched variety shows all afternoon.
Just as lunchtime was approaching, a torrential downpour began.
The rain came suddenly, and Ying Qian breathed a sigh of relief. Luckily, she hadn't gone out, or she would have been soaked to the bone.
"It's ruined..." Shen Yun said softly, tears still streaming down her face.
Ying Qian hugged her tighter: "The holiday is still long... It can't rain for five days straight, can it?"
He responded with a wronged tone in her arms.
It was almost seven o'clock when Shen Chang came to pick up Shen Yun to go home. He was carrying an umbrella, and there were still some water droplets stuck in his hair. He smiled at Ying Qian, and then put his arm around Shen Yun: "Let's go!"
"Okay, be careful."
Shen Yun was still reluctant to leave, and Shen Chang didn't dare to look at Ying Qian for more than a few moments before hurriedly leaving.
Her gaze as she watched the dejected figure recede into the distance was filled with confusion and timidity.
After the brother and sister left, Ying Qian slumped into her chair.
Time passed slowly, and the house remained dark with the lights off. The faint light prompted her to pick up her phone and make a voice call to Chen Wenzhi.
The background noise from across the street was quite loud, but there was also the sound of rain. Ying Qian guessed that it was probably a family gathering.
"Have you had dinner?" Chen Wenzhi asked.
"No, not yet." Ying Qian held back her tears, glanced at the empty room, and asked in a choked voice, "Is it raining where you are?"
"...I'm logging off." He paused for a moment before saying, "You weren't in Qincheng, were you? Meng Beiyan didn't come looking for you at all, right?"
It was clearly a question, yet the voice was incredibly gentle.
Ying Qian gripped the glass on the table with her other hand and gave a pitiful "hmm".
...
Neither of them spoke for a long time. Chen Wenzhi listened quietly to her gentle breathing and the pattering rain in the background.
"Chen Wenzhi, are you familiar with Senior Xi Yin?" she asked tentatively.
"Why are you suddenly bringing her up?" Chen Wenzhi asked, puzzled. "We've met a few times, what's wrong?"
He never thought Ying Qian and Xi Yin looked alike, so when he suddenly heard her ask him this question, he was a little at a loss. But he knew about Chen Chang and Xi Yin's relationship, and he also knew about using Ying Qian as a substitute.
So he asked uncertainly, "Did Chen Chang tell you?"
Perhaps due to the influence of the phone's earpiece, his voice was deep and magnetic.
"Chen Yun told me." She didn't want to beat around the bush, so she said whatever came to mind, not caring that her voice was gradually choking up. "Chen Wenzhi, is it because I look like my senior that you like me?"
Without hesitation, the person on the other end immediately replied after she finished speaking, "I swear, it's not because of that!"
He didn't want any suspicion or doubt between them.
He said, "When we first met, I thought your eyes were beautiful, but that didn't stop me from not liking you. After spending time with you, I found that you weren't as domineering as I thought."
Hearing this, Ying Qian burst into laughter through her tears, wiping them away with her fingertips.
Chen Wenzhi continued, “You’re adorable, you’re clever and quick-witted. After I learned about your situation, I didn’t want to laugh at you or give you anything. I just wanted to stay by your side quietly. In the process of accompanying you, I also saw your resilient side.”
