Chapter Twenty-Nine: Come Often

On the marble table, a table full of dishes were served on matching blue and white porcelain plates.

Ying Qian sat with Chen Wenzhi, still full of curiosity about the woman opposite her.

"Lean back," Chen Wenzhi whispered, turning his head slightly.

Ying Qian was puzzled and was about to ask when he suddenly pressed her shoulder against the back of the chair, causing her to furrow her brows in pain.

He realized he had used too much force, so he gently rubbed her shoulder like he was coaxing a child.

Ying Qian was a little annoyed, but she only glanced at it lightly and didn't say anything.

The middle-aged woman slowly walked out of the kitchen, took out her phone from her apron pocket, stood shakily on a chair, opened the camera, and the sound of recording a video rang out.

"Family members, look! If you think it's delicious, come to my house and eat!" As she spoke, she started moving the camera again, capturing every dish in the video.

Immediately afterwards, she turned the camera towards the vegetables near Chen Wenzhi, actually wanting to photograph her beloved son, and kept saying, "My eldest son! He's so handsome! In two years after he graduates, you'll all have to introduce him to potential partners!"

Ying Qian was so surprised that her slightly open mouth remained closed for a long time.

Seeing that the woman was about to shift the camera to Ying Qian, Chen Wenzhi opened his mouth to speak. The woman clearly sensed the change in her son's aura, suppressed her smile, and put away her phone.

She wasn't embarrassed and greeted him with a smile as always.

On the contrary, Ying Qian's restraint and timidity were almost overflowing.

Chen Wenzhi's hand holding the chopsticks stiffened for a moment. Without saying a word, he put a chicken wing in her bowl and gently comforted her, "Don't be afraid. My mother has always been like this, and she hasn't changed over the years."

"Mmm," she responded softly.

Before the woman even started eating, she was fiddling with her phone from side to side.

"Sisi, can we add each other on WeChat?"

Ying Qian looked up in fright, the sauce from the chicken wings still clinging to her lips, and her bewildered expression made her incredibly cute.

She never imagined that upon their first meeting, Chen Wenzhi's mother would call her... Qianqian.

No one had ever called her that before.

She said this to the woman in front of her, and the woman's smile became even brighter, "That's great, from now on, whenever I hear someone call you Xixi, that's me."

Without giving Ying Qian a chance to refuse, she instructed Chen Wenzhi, "Send me her WeChat."

Chen Wenzhi quickly put down his chopsticks, shook his hand, and said sarcastically, "I don't have her WeChat."

The woman paused for a moment, then slowly turned her gaze to Ying Qian, who was focused on cooking.

She quickly opened the QR code interface.

After successfully adding the aunt as a friend, the first thing Ying Qian noticed was the aunt's ID: God's Tears

She pursed her lips tightly to suppress her smile, then secretly glanced at "God's Tears," her heart already bursting with laughter.

Just like Chen Wenzhi said, an interesting soul.

That is to say, such an interesting mother actually raised a child like Chen Wenzhi.

The intense gaze burned his skin as Chen Wenzhi glanced back at Ying Qian.

She smiled blankly.

Chen Wenzhi smiled slightly and ate his meal quietly.

After a satisfying meal, Ying Qian helped clear the dishes and then offered, "Auntie! I'll go wash the dishes!"

"Oh, no, no, you're a guest!" the woman refused decisively. "Why don't you sit on the sofa with Chen Wenzhi and watch TV for a while?"

With that, she turned and went into the kitchen.

The water was splashing.

Chen Wenzhi's expression hardened slightly, and his heart felt as if it were being pierced by a thousand needles, an indescribable discomfort. He led Ying Qian back to the sofa.

The TV was playing long, tedious commercials.

“You don’t need to do that,” he said casually, not even glancing at her out of the corner of his eye, his eyes fixed on the uninteresting advertisement.

Ying Qian was confused. She hummed in response and asked softly, "What do you mean?"

"Children who are too sensible never get the best of a deal."

He said very seriously, "Ying Qian, many times, being yourself and being happy is more important than anything else."

Ying Qian listened quietly, resting her chin on her hand as she observed him, feeling a surge of admiration for him. She then gave him a sweet smile and said, "Thank you, Chen Wenzhi."

It's always the same; every time, all she does is say thank you.

When Chen Wenzhi turned his head, he opened his lips and just caught a glimpse of that sweet smile. The girl's purity was captivating, so he hesitated to speak, and his face involuntarily flushed.

"You're so shy!" Ying Qian teased. "You blush so easily."

Chen Wenzhi lowered his head and cleared his throat in a seemingly relaxed manner.

Around eight o'clock, Ying Qian wanted to go home.

Chen Wenzhi said goodbye to his mother and went out to see her off.

When he got home, he saw his mother sitting at the dining table, looking Chen Wenzhi up and down with a serious expression.

"What's wrong?" Chen Wenzhi asked with a slight smile. "Is Ms. Zhao angry again?"

Zhao Fenfen shook her head, "That girl..."

She paused inexplicably, and the air seemed to freeze for a moment.

Chen Wenzhi's Adam's apple bobbed dryly, a hint of nervousness in his voice. "That girl, is there something wrong with her?"

Zhao Fenfen beamed, "I think it's great!" She pulled Chen Wenzhi back and gently patted his shoulder, "Look how scared you are! Mommy won't eat you! Ying Qian is quite pitiful too..."

She clicked her tongue twice and said, "If you can take care of her in the future, please do so. I really like Ying Qian, and her background is so tragic... I'll invite her over for dinner often!"

As he spoke, he patted Chen Wenzhi on the back several times, as if he were entrusting him with some arduous task.

Chen Wenzhi's frozen smile softened again.

"Okay," he replied.

He suddenly said, "Mom, I don't want all your feelings for her to be just pity."
