Chapter 118 is good.

Chen Wenzhi's gaze fell on the dazed Ying Qian again.

She looked down at the man on the hospital bed, her tears long since dried up.

Two people stood at the door of the ward, whispering to each other, while snow fell heavily outside the window.

"Ying Qian..." the man was still chanting.

She looked up at Chen Wenzhi with a pitiful expression.

Chen Wenzhi was no longer the aloof and composed man he once was; he was flustered and unsure how to offer words of comfort.

Where is Ying Qian?!

The woman's sharp scream silenced the entire ward.

Tang Ya-wen glared angrily. Wearing high heels made things inconvenient, so she took them off and went barefoot to find Ying Qian as soon as she entered the room.

Li Qinqin and Meng Xuhe were clearly surprised by Tang Yawen's intense emotions. They remained hesitant to step forward, still standing outside the ward, seemingly determined to break up the fight.

After locking onto her target, Tang Yawen grabbed her bag and rushed over to throw it at Ying Qian, yelling, "It's all your fault! It's all your fault, you little vixen! You're always ruining my son's life!"

Everyone around treated it as a spectacle and quickly withdrew, while the conscious patient quietly opened one eye to peek.

Seeing this, Chen Wenzhi quickly shielded Ying Qian behind him, his fully packed bag landing squarely on his back. He gently stroked Ying Qian's cheek and whispered comfortingly, "It's okay, I'm here."

I thought Tang Ya-wen would do something else.

Chen Wenzhi protected Ying Qian closely, vigilantly watching everyone's every move in the ward.

When Tang Yawen saw Meng Beiyan, who was unconscious on the hospital bed, her emotions calmed down considerably. Tears streamed down her face as she sobbed uncontrollably, her hands trembling as she gently held her son's hand.

When she realized who was responsible for all of this, she became energetic again, rushing towards Chen Wenzhi and yelling, "Don't protect this little bitch—if it weren't for her, how could my son be so distant from us? How could he talk back to us?"

"In the past six months, every single time he got into trouble, it was because of you! Over the years, Meng Beiyan has hardly ever argued with me, but ever since you came here, he's been going against me every single day!"

"Ying Qian, our family has helped you more than enough, we've done everything we could. Auntie begs you, please forgive Meng Beiyan, and let my son go!"

As she finished speaking, Tang Ya-wen adjusted her skirt.

Meng Xuhe realized what was happening and quickly went to help, with Li Qinqin following closely behind to support him.

Before the war could resume...

The security guards came over and led the group of people out of the ward.

There was no heating outside the ward. Chen Wenzhi breathed on his palms, rubbed them together a few times, and then placed Ying Qian's hand in his palm, whispering to her, "It's nothing, it's nothing, don't be afraid, don't be afraid..."

It's just like coaxing a child.

Ying Qian leaned against him timidly.

In another cubicle, Tang Yawen held Li Qinqin's hand, tears streaming down her face: "Qinqin, tell me the truth, what exactly happened between you and Meng Beiyan?"

The mascara softened after being soaked under the eyes, and then smudged in a circle around the eyes.

Li Qinqin patted Tang Yawen's hand, licked her lips, and said, "Auntie, Meng Beiyan and I are really getting along well. We were originally thinking... towards the end of the year..."

She paused, her cheeks flushing, "I was thinking of getting our marriage certificate at the end of the year..."

Upon hearing this, Tang Ya-wen was overjoyed and immediately beamed with delight, "That's wonderful!"

As he spoke, he began to imagine a life surrounded by children and grandchildren, completely oblivious to the cold sweat beading on Li Qinqin's palms.

Meng Xuhe stood at the door listening to the two's conversation, her face full of worry. She knew that Meng Beiyan would probably be depressed for a while.

I don't know how Li Qinqin will smooth things over in the future.

She was secretly heartbroken and wandered back to the ward. Everyone looked at her with strange eyes. She went straight to the bed at the far end of the room.

Only a long silence.

Meng Xuhe sat on the edge of the bed, staring blankly at the several messages that popped up on his phone.

[Sweetie, do you want me to pick you up?]

She took a deep breath, turned off the screen, and didn't reply to the message.

“Meng…Xuhe?” Meng Beiyan squinted, vaguely seeing Meng Xuhe’s face, and got up to sit up.

Meng Xuhe nodded, gesturing for him to lie down properly. "It's me."

"Where is Ying Qian?" he asked.

Meng Xuhe scoffed lightly and said gently, "I knew you would go back to her as soon as you woke up."

"...Does she know?" Meng Beiyan was worried that she wouldn't come, and also worried that she would come back. "It's so cold. If she runs out, she probably won't be wearing enough warm clothes. What if she catches a cold... Yes... It wouldn't be good if she caught a cold..."

"She's here."

Meng Xuhe's mind was a mess; all he wanted to do was complain that his older brother was out of his mind.

But she had no position to uphold, because she herself wasn't exactly a winner in matters of love.

"Brother, you can't do this to Ying Qian." Meng Xuhe hesitated for a long time before finally saying what was on his mind.

"..." Meng Beiyan selectively ignored her words, gently closed her eyes, and said, "I'm tired."

Meng Xuhe reached out and tucked the blanket around him. Even if he didn't listen, she would still talk to him.

"You always force yourself to tell her about your stress and suffering. She also feels conflicted and helpless when she encounters difficulties, but where are you when she feels helpless?"

“Brother, don’t put your love for her in shackles. Everyone can see that you like Ying Qian, how could Ying Qian herself not see it?” Meng Xuhe pursed his lips. “I think she’s been keeping quiet just so she doesn’t want to embarrass you…”

Meng Beiyan kept his eyes tightly closed, showing no intention of opening them.

Tears slid down her cheeks.

Meng Xuhe glanced at the falling tears, his heart clenched, he pursed his lips, ignored them, and said to himself, "You have no idea what Ying Qian really wants."

A moment of silence followed.

Meng Beiyan asked, "Then tell me, what exactly does she want?"

Actually, Meng Xuhe didn't know either. She shook her head honestly, her eyebrows furrowing slightly, her voice as gentle as ever, "I don't know."

“But if she continues to live under the mental oppression you’ve created, she’ll go crazy. Not just her, anyone would.” Her voice choked with emotion.

The air fell silent.

Meng Xuhe didn't look at Meng Beiyan again, got up and left.

In all her life, she had never really had so many serious conversations with her brother.

This time, it seemed like all the resentment in my heart had been released.

As she passed the cubicle where Li Qinqin was staying, the ease on her face faded considerably, and her expression became serious again. She replied to the message and unknowingly walked out of the hospital.

Her slender figure was reflected in her dark pupils.

Ying Qian tugged at Chen Wenzhi's hand, "Sister Xuhe has lost so much weight."

"Hmm." Chen Wenzhi didn't pay attention to anyone else at all, and lowered his head to touch Ying Qian's eyes with his face. "But you still need to eat more, you can't be too thin."

"But you look better when you're thin."

As Ying Qian spoke, she dodged Chen Wenzhi's subtle attempts to be affectionate, pulling her hand away to hug his back.

You look good no matter what.
