Chapter Fifty-Four: First Love



He only noticed the girls who were quiet and unassuming amidst the crowds, who didn't follow the crowd, and who only smiled at him.

She is gentle and beautiful.

He wasn't very fast in the early stages, and Ying Qian knew he was conserving his energy.

Sure enough, by the sixth lap, the gap began to appear, with most of the students who had initially taken the lead now lagging behind and taking increasingly shorter strides. Chen Wenzhi began to accelerate, leaving one runner behind after another, and overtook the leader amidst waves of applause.

With two laps remaining, the speed steadily increased, heading straight for the finish line.

"Ying Qian, Teacher Wang isn't here! The principal asked someone in the class to pick up the contestant..." The boy who ran over was panting.

Ying Qian recognized him as Wei Ji and smiled in response.

So she and several homeroom teachers walked towards the finish line.

"Ying Qian, were you and Chen Wenzhi classmates in junior high school?" the Class 2 homeroom teacher asked, her hands behind her back.

She shook her head shyly, "No, I'm not from this school."

"You two seem to know each other quite well."

She didn't deny it, didn't say anything, and silently stood with the teachers a short distance behind the referee.

As expected, Chen Wenzhi was the first to cross the finish line.

He saw the girl standing behind the finish line from afar, looking out of place, all alone.

Why was the homeroom teacher chosen to pick them up?

In previous years, many couples who were dating early at No. 3 Middle School were caught at the finish line of the sports meet.

I thought I would get a hug.

Ying Qian simply handed him a wet wipe to dry himself off, "Are you still able to walk? Why don't you just sit down and rest?"

"Sigh..." Chen Wenzhi took the wet wipe and wiped the sweat from his fair skin. "Are you trying to make me die suddenly?"

"You can't sit down and rest immediately after running." Although he was panting heavily, his voice remained steady.

Ying Qian blushed and said shyly, "Well, I haven't run much... and no one has ever told me."

“That’s good, I’ve told you,” he said.

The two walked and talked in full view of everyone, maintaining a safe distance, until they reached the classroom.

"Isn't the teacher here?" Chen Wenzhi looked around.

Ying Qian shrugged. "It seems he's not here."
