Chapter 106 is important

Did you cry?

The redness and swelling at the corners of his eyes were particularly noticeable, clearly indicating that he had been crying.

Why? Ying Qian was a little incredulous, then teased, "Was it because of me that you cried?"

"..." Chen Wenzhi raised his eyes and pressed her hand to his cheek, like a child begging for affection, "It's because of you. Since the first year of junior high, I've only shed tears twice, and both times it was because of you."

Upon hearing this, Ying Qian's eyes darted around, and realizing his intentions, she quickly changed the subject, asking, "What about before junior high? What was it for?"

Chen Wenzhi's expression didn't change much. He pursed his thin, dry lips slightly, and finally, under Ying Qian's strong anticipation and curiosity, he began to speak in detail.

“I wasn’t very tall in elementary school, and I didn’t like to talk. You know, I usually wouldn’t fight back when I was hit, so I was often bullied. I would cry whenever I was bullied. I had good grades, and the teachers always sided with me… But my parents at that time hoped that I would stay away from trouble.”

Ying Qian couldn't help but sigh. Young Chen Wenzhi must have been like a fragile little grass, never imagining that he would grow up to be a lush and shady tree.

With a faint smile, he spoke candidly about his past, both bitter and sweet.

Ying Qian moved her fingers and pressed his cheek. His cheek flesh sank in, and she giggled. "But you've grown up now, and you can stand tall and proud."

"Yes, it can not only protect myself, but also the people I want to protect." He spoke earnestly, the seriousness on his face long since vanished amidst his cheerful laughter.

Since meeting Ying Qian, his life has been filled with laughter and joy.

As long as she's by my side, I'll never see the shadow of loneliness again.

"So cheesy, so cheesy~" Ying Qian pulled her hand away and rubbed her temples, her eyes slightly narrowed. "How much homework have you done? Have you finished that set of '53' practice books?"

The change in topic left Chen Wenzhi feeling deeply helpless, but he could only go along with Ying Qian. He told the truth: "We don't have the '53' set; the class homework is a test paper made up by the principal himself."

"That's amazing?" she exclaimed in surprise. "Then you guys are in a bit of a predicament."

“I don’t need to write.” He spread his hands, indicating innocence. There was a slight hint of Versailles in his expression.

"Why?!" Ying Qian's eyes widened suddenly.

He calmly picked up an orange and started peeling it, stating succinctly: "Because I'm number one."

Ying Qian closed her eyes.

Do you know how much homework there is in a humanities class?

“I saw it at home.” Chen Wenzhi peeled a segment of orange and fed it to Ying Qian. “Isn’t there a booklet with the answers?”

She bit into the orange, the sweet juice bursting in her mouth. She shrank back, revealing a sad expression as if she wanted to jump off a building. "Didn't you notice that the answer key is thicker than our math homework?"

"..." Chen Wenzhi was speechless.

Humanities classes do have a lot of homework...

Actually, there is a lot of homework in the science class, but Chen Wen doesn't have any homework. Since the homeroom teacher implemented this system, he rarely does the school's problems anymore. He usually finds his own problems or the problems given by the homeroom teacher.

"You guys are having a blast..." She sighed deeply, trying to move her legs, but found that she had no feeling at all under the plaster cast.

"Regret choosing humanities?" Chen Wenzhi smiled and fed her another segment of orange.

"No regrets." Ying Qian looked into his captivating eyes, chuckled softly, her voice gentle yet firm, "I never regret the choices I make."

Yes, she never regrets it, she will never regret it.

At dinner time, Meng Beiyan walked in from outside the ward carrying a thermos.

The ward was full, and the rest of the patients were children. Their parents were watching over them, and they didn't make a fuss. They were all quietly nestled in their parents' arms watching cartoons.

When Meng Beiyan entered, he glanced briefly at the children on the bed, while an elderly man with graying temples was feeding them white porridge.

Even though it hurts, everyone has their own destiny.

He stopped paying attention to the child and walked inside to the second bed separated by a curtain. At this moment, only the overhead light was on, illuminating this small space.

On the hospital bed, Ying Qian, with her leg in a cast, was asleep with her eyes closed.

Chen Wenzhi made a "shh" gesture.

Meng Beiyan understood and placed the lunchbox on the small table by the bedside.

"You go back and rest first, I'll take care of things here," he said, turning to Chen Wenzhi.

Chen Wenzhi raised an eyebrow, his gaze falling on Ying Qian's tightly clenched fingers, his expression instantly softening with tenderness and affection, "I'm not leaving, I want to stay with her."

"..."

Meng Beiyan's face darkened, his lips pressed into a straight line, and he didn't say much. His gaze towards Chen Wenzhi held a hint of helplessness, and his strong facial bones appeared three-dimensional and handsome under the light.

“I will fight for custody of him.”

Chen Wenzhi heard Meng Beiyan say.

"Well, so what?" he snorted, offering a gentle reminder, "Then she'll always just be your family, always just family."

Meng Beiyan, seemingly nonchalant, began fiddling with the lunchbox. Then, with a wry smile, he replied calmly, "Family is family. Having family for a lifetime isn't necessarily a bad thing."

Chen Wenzhi's gaze was fixed on the pale Ying Qian, speechless. If Meng Beiyan really thought that way, then that would be wonderful.

The sound of a vibrating phone broke the silence.

Meng Beiyan took out his phone from his trouser pocket, glanced at the contact name, and quickly walked out of the ward.

Outside the hospital.

Li Qinqin threw herself into his arms.

Meng Beiyan held her shoulders and pushed her away, asking, "What's wrong?"

"Is there nothing wrong? Can't I come see you?" Li Qinqin was very unhappy that he had pushed her away earlier. She pointed at him and said, "We're a couple, after all. What do you mean by coming here every day to see your non-blood-related sister?"
