Chapter 40 Willing to Approach

The only noteworthy thing about No. 3 Middle School is the abundance of top students and handsome men and beautiful women; the rest of the gossip is far less exciting than that of No. 6 Middle School.

"Doesn't No. 6 Middle School also have pretty girls?" Ren Yi suddenly interjected.

Lu Ziran smiled, and said with a hint of regret, "All the girls at No. 6 Middle School are already taken."

"Sigh... I really envy you guys at No. 6 Middle School." Ren Yi lost his appetite and complained listlessly, "No. 3 Middle School is too strict about early dating, it's practically a cardinal rule, and violating it results in immediate expulsion!"

The group laughed so hard their chests heaved.

After they had almost finished eating, Lu Ziran got up and went to the girls' table to find the girl in the wheelchair. Seeing the chili sauce in the condiment dish, he gently tapped her forehead with his knuckles and reminded her, "Haven't you had a sore throat lately? Don't eat spicy food."

The girl nodded obediently.

The dinner party was rather lackluster, perhaps because none of the participants were familiar with each other.

That evening, they went to the upstairs karaoke bar, and Lu Ziran generously booked a 10-person room for six hours.

The laser lights overhead in the private room shone brightly, particularly dazzling in the darkness.

The screen played the accompaniment of a love song, creating an ambiguous atmosphere.

Ren Yi whispered to the group from No. 3 Middle School, "You need some strength to fight someone. Lu Ziran's family is very wealthy. He's a third-generation rich kid and doesn't need to work hard at all..."

"Huh? So rich?" This was Ying Qian's first reaction. Then she thought of Meng Xuhe, his current girlfriend, and couldn't help but worry. So she asked, "Is he a jerk?"

Upon hearing this, Chen Wenzhi stiffly shifted his gaze, which landed on her slightly parted cherry-colored lips.

Meeting his icy gaze, he quickly looked away, staring nonchalantly at the large screen. Ying Qian realized he had misunderstood her question.

To make amends, she took advantage of the dim lighting and gently held Chen Wenzhi's large hand, rubbing his palm a few times with her fingertips as a way of comforting and coaxing him.

Upon noticing this action, Ren Yi's pupils dilated slightly, and he pulled the brother and sister away to sing.

Only two people remained in the corner of the KTV.

Chen Wenzhi's palm was very warm. She tried to pull her hand away, but he covered it with his and wouldn't let go. She wasn't usually a shy person, but Chen Wenzhi's sudden closeness brought the distance between them to zero.

"Tsk..." she uttered, trying to move away a little.

He was completely different from his usual gentlemanly and reserved self. Perhaps because the atmosphere in the private room was so intense that no one noticed him, his hand was wrapped around Ying Qian's waist.

Ying Qian wrinkled her nose; the pleasant smell of laundry detergent on him was replaced by a faint smell of alcohol.

Subconsciously, she still kindly reminded him, "Chen Wenzhi, drinking alcohol is bad for your health."

"I didn't drink." Chen Wenzhi leaned back. "Almost everyone at the table drank, so I had a little bit."

"Is it that you find the smell unpleasant?" He waited for an answer.

If Ying Qian said yes, he would stay a little further away and let Shen Yun accompany her; if she said no, they would just quietly and secretly spend the long time together.

He looked at Ying Qian's earlobes, wondering if it was the red neon lights making them appear red.

He felt that all of this time was stolen from him.

His gaze was so intense that Ying Qian recoiled as if burned.

"I'm not feeling unwell, I'm fine. It's good that you didn't drink."

"Okay." He could finally feel at ease.

He didn't understand what he was doing; he was just following his heart, just being with Ying Qian, without worries or anxieties, as if the world consisted of only the two of them.

I didn't have this feeling when we first met.

As time went by, the way he looked at her was no longer pure.

At first, he noticed the change in his feelings and thought that he could just avoid Ying Qian, but time told him that this method was not feasible, and he simply could not control his thoughts.

He couldn't figure out what Ying Qian was thinking either.

Seeing that he had been stunned for a long time, Ying Qian raised her hand and moved the hand around her waist, asking softly, "Are you sleepy?"

"No." He shook his head, still unwilling to let go of her hand.

Ying Qian seemed to sense his meaning, and sneered at him for being a rogue, then asked bluntly as if to cover up her misunderstanding: "Have you never had contact with any women other than your mother?"

Chen Wenzhi withdrew his hand, pursed his lips and avoided looking at her, his thin lips slightly parted: "You."

"Besides me?" she pressed on.

“No…” Chen Wenzhi stared at the lyrics popping up on the screen. There was no sound beside him. His Adam’s apple bobbed, and he said again, “What? Still want to laugh at me?”

"No, no." Ying Qian waved her hand, smiling happily. "I didn't expect that someone as outstanding as you would have no one willing to get close to you?"

"Thanks to your courage."

There are tons of people at No. 3 Middle School who like Chen Wenzhi, but they are all cowards. They can only steal a few glances at him, and it is impossible for them to go up and talk to him. Ren Yi is so frustrated.

Ying Qian offered a reasonable explanation for this phenomenon: girls in City S are generally shy.

Chen Wenzhi's smile was faint, and any expression on his face was indifferent, as if he didn't care about anything. He said, "Maybe it's because of my bad personality that most people don't want to get close to me."

Neon lights flickered in and out of sight.

Ying Qian took Chen Wenzhi's hand, her heart pounding, and without thinking, she blurted out, "Then consider me one of this small group."

A small group of people who are willing to get close to you.
