Chapter 416: Imprisonment

"How dare you openly buy female slaves in the capital? Don't you know that the laws of the Great Chu explicitly prohibit the trafficking of human beings? This is a serious crime! Stay in this cell honestly and wait for your punishment!"

The soldier's eyes were wide open and after shouting these words angrily, he turned around and left without looking back, leaving Xiao Ning, who was confused and at a loss, imprisoned alone in this dark and damp cell.

Looking at the soldier's receding back, Xiao Ning curled his lips helplessly and shouted at the top of his voice:

"When did Great Chu have this law? Is the capital so advanced and civilized now?"

Unfortunately, the only response he got was an empty echo and the sound of footsteps fading away. Until the footsteps completely disappeared, the heavy iron door of the prison slowly closed with a dull sound, and the entire prison instantly fell into darkness.

Xiao Ning stood there helplessly, spreading his hands, with a bewildered look on his face, which made him look quite cute. After a while, he quickly walked to the mud wall beside him, raised his right hand and gently patted the wall, then shouted at the top of his voice:

"I told you a long time ago not to touch that slave girl casually. Now we are all locked up. Brother Zhou, are you okay?"

After Xiao Ning finished shouting, he stood quietly by the wall, listening carefully. Not long after, a voice with obvious crying tone came from the other side of the earth wall:

"How would I know that there is such a law in the Great Chu? It is really a sword hanging over one's head! Brother Xiao, please think of a solution quickly. What should we do next?"

Xiao Ning curled his lips and said helplessly: "What can I do? How about asking your brother to rescue us?"

As soon as these words came out, Zhou Yang, who was already a little anxious, barked like a puppy whose tail was stepped on, and resisted with an extremely firm attitude:

"Absolutely not! If my brother knew that I bought a female slave and sneaked to Da Chu, once he caught me, he would break my legs! And it would be my third leg!"

Zhou Yang's hysterical scream was so loud that Xiao Ning felt his ears were almost buzzing. He frowned and shouted impatiently:

"So what do you think we should do now? Didn't you hear what that person said just now? Purchasing a female slave is a serious crime. You might even lose your head if you're not careful."

However, facing Xiao Ning's questioning, Zhou Yang still did not flinch, stiffening his neck and shouting:

"Anyway, I can't tell my brother about this. Even if I end up dead, it's much better than living half-crippled!"

Xiao Ning looked at Zhou Yang, who had such a tough attitude, and felt angry and amused for a moment. He thought to himself, this guy is not afraid of death, but he is afraid of this.

He said no more, and then slowly collapsed on a patch of weeds. His lively eyes only drifted around listlessly from time to time, as if he wanted to catch something, but he seemed to care about nothing.

In fact, he didn't care about this kind of thing at all, because he knew very well in his heart that as long as he simply said hello to Nangong Luoyu, explained things clearly, and made some concessions, they could be released easily, and it was not a big deal at all.

However, Xiao Ning did not choose to do so. The main reason why he did so was to take this opportunity to teach Zhou Yang a lesson, so that this guy would not buy female slaves recklessly again, so as to avoid causing trouble for himself.

After all, Zhou Yang's brother Zhou Zhen had a pretty good relationship with him, and Xiao Ning also knew in his heart that although Zhou Yang was a little fickle, he was not a bad person at heart. He just had more tricks than ordinary people.

Because the cell was so dark and damp, it was impossible to tell whether it was day or night. Time passed quietly without anyone noticing, and I didn't know how long it had passed. Suddenly, a creepy "creaking" sound broke the silence.

The heavy iron door outside the cell was being slowly pushed open from the outside. The sound was sharp and piercing, as if it could pierce one's eardrums. Then, two figures appeared at the door. One of them was fat, wearing a set of yamen uniform, and holding a huge wooden barrel in his hands. The other was thin, also wearing yamen uniform, holding a large wooden basin filled with porcelain bowls in his hands. It looked like it was time to deliver the meal.

The two men, one fat and one thin, formed a sharp contrast, just like Benboba and Baboben in Journey to the West. All I heard was the fat man yelling at the top of his voice:

"Dinner is ready! Dinner is ready!"

Zhou Yang was so hungry that his chest was almost sticking to his back and his stomach was rumbling. When he heard the fat man's voice outside, he rushed to the cell like an arrow, and a barely perceptible light flashed in his eyes.

The fat man and the thin man slowly began to distribute food to the prisoners. Zhou Yang stood in front of the cell door, anxiously waiting for his turn.

Time passed by minute by minute, and finally, the rice spoon was stretched out in front of him. The fat man took a full spoonful of rice soup from the wooden barrel and slowly poured it into the bowl.

Zhou Yang took the bowl of rice soup with great joy, but when he looked at it carefully, the smile on his face froze instantly.

"Ah? Why is there only a bowl of watery rice soup? Don't you even have any dishes to order? Even a white flour steamed bun would be fine!"
