After breakfast, Qin Ruixu led everyone away from the village. Liu Anran turned her head to look at the small mountain village behind her, finally leaving that suffocating, hellish place.
Led by Qin Ruixu, they arrived safely at the Beijing base. First, they registered, and then they were checked to see if they had been scratched or bitten by zombies before being allowed into the Beijing base.
Looking around, there were densely packed tents all around. Children ran around, and when they saw Liu Anran and her group, they stopped curiously. The old man had a hunched back, and his face was full of vicissitudes and despair.
Qin Ruixu said, "There are too many people, and the city can't accommodate them all. We can't just kick them out and watch them get bitten to death by zombies, so we can only arrange for them to stay here. This is the outer city."
"Most of the people living here are elderly, weak, sick, or disabled, unable to support themselves. We not only have to protect their safety but also provide them with food every day. Now that supplies are dwindling, we are gradually becoming powerless. We can only recruit more wood-type abilities to accelerate the growth of food," Qin Ruixu said.
“Uncle, how can a wood-type ability user possibly support the entire base? You should acquire land outside the city, hire some farmers to cultivate the land, and then use wood-type abilities to help accelerate the growth of crops and increase their yield,” Liu Anran said.
"You mean to have wood-type ability users assist farmers in large-scale planting?" Qin Ruixu asked.
Liu Anran laughed and said, "Wood-type ability users know how to dig, how to divide the soil, how to make planting holes, the distance between holes, when to sow seeds, when to start fertilizing, what season to plant cowpeas, and what season to plant winter melons. These are all very particular. Wood-type ability users should listen to the farmers, but do you expect the farmers to listen to their random instructions?"
"You know how to farm?" Qin Ruixu asked curiously.
“I only know a little bit, and I’m far behind those experienced farmers. You should go find some top professors and technicians,” Liu Anran said.
Qin Ruixu said, "We have already rescued some well-known professors, and the base's water and electricity are now provided by these professors. However, we are short-handed in the post-apocalyptic world, and we have lost contact with many professors. We are willing but unable to do more. We will continue to work hard."
...
As the car entered the inner city, Qin Ruixu said, "This is the inner city."
Liu Anran looked at the pedestrians on the street. It seemed peaceful, with no roars of zombies, only pedestrians coming and going. However, the cheerful smiles on their faces were gone, replaced by confusion and uncertainty about the future.
The car drove for a while and then stopped. Qin Ruixu looked at Chu Yunxiao and said, "Take An Ran and Yunlong back. I need to report the situation about the zombies to my superiors."
“Okay!” Chu Yunxiao said.
"Uncle, you must come and see Yunlong and me," Liu Anran urged.
Qin Ruixu looked at Liu Anran helplessly, "Don't worry, my older sister is a very nice person."
"I feel uneasy, I'm still a little scared," Liu Anran said.
"An Ran, you're not even afraid of zombies, yet you're afraid of my mom," Chu Yunxiao said with amusement.
Liu Anran said, "Haven't you heard? A daughter-in-law and a mother-in-law are natural enemies."
Liu Changqing scoffed, "You have no ambition whatsoever."
"You're so capable. When I was being scolded by Chu Yunxiao's own mother, would you dare to stand up for me and seek justice?" Liu Anran asked.
“What does this have to do with me?” Liu Changqing said.
“I knew you were unreliable. My uncle is the most dependable. He promised me that he would help me as long as I’m right,” Liu Anran said.
Liu Changqing glanced at Liu Anran and laughed, "You're nothing to me. If you were my own sister, I would stand by your side unconditionally."
Liu Anran said, "How about I let the child in my belly recognize you as its godfather?"
Liu Changqing scoffed, "I won't do it. With your rotten temper, you'll definitely offend people everywhere. Your children won't be any better; they'll definitely cause trouble everywhere."
Liu Changqing got out of the car as he spoke.
Liu Anran also got out of the car and said loudly to Liu Changqing, "Liu Changqing, I regret it now. I don't care if you are my daughter's godfather."
"I couldn't ask for more!" Liu Changqing said.
"Damn it! Liu Changqing, you bastard, how dare you look down on my daughter!" Liu Anran cursed.
"I don't dislike your daughter, I dislike you," Liu Changqing said as he ran away.
Yunlong got out of the car with Hei Pi. Seeing that Liu Anran was unhappy, he went up to her, took her hand, and said, "Mom, Uncle Liu is blind. We won't talk to him."
“You’re right,” Liu Anran said.
Qin Ruixu said, "Liu Changqing has a bad temper, but he's exceptionally tolerant of An Ran."
“When An Ran was alone with Yunlong, she met Liu Changqing. Liu Changqing was attracted to her and wanted to keep her by his side. In order to refuse Liu Changqing, An Ran disfigured herself. Liu Changqing must have felt guilty towards An Ran!” Chu Yunxiao said.
Looking at Liu Anran's beautiful face, Qin Ruixu sighed, "Don't let Anran wander around alone."
Chu Yunxiao said, "I will."
Chu Yunxiao smiled and walked up to Liu Anran and Yunlong, saying softly, "Anran, Yunlong, let's go home."
"Dad, will Grandma and Grandma like me and Mom?" Yunlong asked.
"Yes," Chu Yunxiao replied with a smile.
Liu Anran, Yunlong, and Heipi followed Chu Yunxiao to a detached villa. Through the iron gate, they saw an elderly woman with gray hair and an elegant demeanor sitting in the yard, with a graceful and dignified middle-aged woman sitting next to her.
The two guards at the gate were delighted to see Chu Yunxiao. Chu Yunxiao gestured for them to be quiet and then pulled Yunlong inside.
Liu Anran followed behind Chu Yunxiao, secretly thinking that if Chu Yunxiao's family didn't like her, she would move out on her own.
