Chapter 86 The Old Woman

Seeing Chu Yunxiao engrossed in drinking his porridge without eating a single piece of meat, Jiang Cheng asked in confusion, "Brother, why aren't you eating?"

Chu Yunxiao said calmly, "I haven't eaten meat for months, and I haven't even eaten lard. I'm worried about getting diarrhea. If you like it, eat more."

Jiang Cheng picked up another piece of meat and put it in his mouth. While eating, he said, "This wild boar meat is fresh, fragrant, tender, and juicy. It's delicious. It might be a mutated pig, otherwise it wouldn't taste so good."

Liu Anran had eaten wild boar meat before. The skin was thick and the meat was drier than regular domestic pork. The meat of young wild boars was tastier than regular pork, but it wasn't as exaggerated as Jiang Cheng had described. However, the fact that the wild boar meat weighed over 100 jin was fresh, fragrant, tender, and not greasy was something to ponder.

Chu Yunxiao's lips twitched, and his hand holding the chopsticks trembled slightly.

"I also think this meat is especially delicious," the aunt said with a smile.

"Brother, you like to eat so much, so fill the pot with all the meat and let you eat your fill," the guard said readily.

Jiang Cheng was overjoyed and said, "Thank you, Uncle!" He then took out a pack of cigarettes and handed it to the guard, saying, "It's only fair, this is for you."

"Thanks, brother!" the guard said cheerfully.

"Uncle, how heavy is the wild boar you caught? When I leave tomorrow, can I trade something for a pound of wild boar meat?" Liu Anran asked.

"It's not heavy, only about 170 pounds. I only took about 30 pounds. We've almost finished eating. It would have been better if you had come a couple of days earlier, young lady," the guard said.

The auntie carried in a bowl of meat and placed it on the table, warmly greeting him, "Brother, eat more. If you eat this, you won't have another meal."

Chu Yunxiao's body stiffened slightly, and he looked at Jiang Cheng, who was eating heartily, with a complicated expression.

Jiang Cheng said with deep emotion, "Auntie is right. In this world, after eating this meat, who knows when we'll be able to eat meat again."

Liu Anran couldn't help but roll her eyes; she now thought Jiang Cheng was incredibly stupid!

Jiang Cheng suddenly took a bone out of his mouth, examined it carefully, and muttered to himself, "These teeth look so much like human teeth."

"Pig teeth are not much different from human teeth; you just haven't noticed," the guard said.

Jiang Cheng placed his teeth on the table and chuckled, "I'm usually too busy with work to pay attention to these details."

Chu Yunxiao felt nauseous, finished the last mouthful of porridge in his bowl, and said with a smile to the guards, "I'm full, please enjoy your meal." He then stood up and sat down next to Liu Anran.

After finishing his meal, the guard exchanged a few polite words with Chu Chu and Yunxiao, then said to Chu Yunxiao, "You all rest well, I need to go guard the checkpoint."

"Thank you for your hard work, Uncle!" Liu Anran said with a smile.

The guard smiled, picked up his gun, and left.

Chu Yunxiao stared at the guard's retreating figure, his eyes filled with icy, bone-chilling coldness.

After the older woman left, Liu Anran heard noises coming from the kitchen and whispered to Jiang Cheng, "Does human flesh taste good?"

Upon hearing this, Jiang Cheng stared at Liu Anran in utter shock. "Human flesh?"

Did he just eat human flesh?

How is that possible?

Jiang Cheng looked at Chu Yunxiao and met Chu Yunxiao's complicated gaze.

“An Ran and I were just guessing; we didn’t confirm anything. It’s possible that An Ran and I were being paranoid,” Chu Yunxiao said.

The thought that he might have eaten human flesh made Jiang Cheng feel nauseous, so he covered his mouth and ran outside to vomit.

"I shouldn't have told Jiang Cheng my guess."

"Ignore him, he has no sense at all," Chu Yunxiao said disdainfully.

Liu Anran walked out of the main room and stood in the courtyard to survey the terrain. She found that the village was surrounded by mountains on three sides, with lush trees on the mountains. There was only one exit from the village, a checkpoint.

Seeing Jiang Cheng squatting at the entrance of the courtyard vomiting, Liu Anran walked over to him with a smile.

“Jiang Cheng, perhaps your elder brother and I are being paranoid. What you ate was not human flesh, but wild boar meat.”

Jiang Cheng wiped his mouth and stood up weakly. "How could I be so stupid? I forgot everything as soon as I saw meat."

Looking at Jiang Cheng's frustrated face, Liu Anran said sympathetically, "You probably haven't eaten meat in a long time and are craving it too much."

Liu Anran and Jiang Cheng were chatting when a hand reached out onto Liu Anran's shoulder. Liu Anran turned around and saw an elderly woman with white hair and a thin body, leaning on a cane.

A hint of surprise flashed in Liu Anran's eyes. When did this old woman arrive?

Why didn't she hear a thing?

Suppressing her doubts, Liu Anran politely said, "Hello, ma'am!"

The old woman looked at Liu Anran with her cloudy eyes and said tremblingly, "Go quickly, this is not a place for you to stay, leave immediately."

His voice was hoarse, filled with anxiety and fear.

The aunt came out of the kitchen and saw the old woman talking to Liu Anran. She cursed and said, "You old hag, what are you doing here? Get out of here right now. If you scare away the guests, I'll hold you responsible."

The woman ran up to the old woman, pointed her finger at her nose, and shouted, "Get out of here right now, or I'll get violent!"

Liu Anran said kindly, "Auntie, the old lady is getting on in years and likes lively atmospheres, so please don't scold her. I don't have anything to do right now, so I might as well ask her for advice on how to take care of myself during postpartum confinement."

The aunt said, "She's just a senile old woman, talking nonsense. Don't believe a word she says."

"Thank you for reminding me, but I won't take the old man's words to heart," Liu Anran said.

The old woman looked at Liu Anran with a complicated expression, "You'll regret it if you don't listen to the advice of your elders."

The older woman shoved the old woman, annoyed, and said, "Go away! Don't be all muttering in front of my house, it's bad luck!"

As the woman spoke, she pushed the old woman again, causing the old woman to sway. Liu Anran, worried that the old woman might fall, reached out to support her.

Jiang Cheng frowned and advised, "Auntie, let's talk this out."

The older woman looked at Jiang Cheng with displeasure, then pulled the old woman away.

Liu Anran saw the older woman pulling the old woman into the neighbor's yard.

The aunt walked up to Liu Anran with a displeased look on her face and complained, "We feel sorry for her and often bring her food, but she often says ambiguous things to the guests, causing misunderstandings. She's both pitiful and infuriating."

"That's how it is when you get old," Liu Anran said casually.

...

Liu Anran chatted with the aunt about everyday things when she saw the guard leading a group of people from a distance.

Liu Anran narrowed her eyes. Tonight is going to be very lively!

The guard, along with his men, approached and, upon seeing the woman standing at the gate, called out, "Wife, we have more guests."

As the people drew closer, Liu Anran saw Qin Ruixu and Bai Lu walking behind the guard.

It's true what they say, you never know where you'll meet someone in life. She disliked seeing Bailu the most, yet she kept running into her wherever she went.

What bad luck!
