Chapter 135 Mutation

The moonlight spilled onto the silent, dark earth, as if a thin veil had been draped over it.

The countryside was unusually quiet. The wind rustled through the trees, and the branches swayed in the breeze. The occasional calls of owls in the forest and the desperate howls of Bailu sounded like a symphony of death.

Bai Lu lay on the ground, her back flesh torn off and eaten by the second-tier zombie dog. Warm blood gushed from the wound, and she felt her life slipping away, as if she could smell the breath of death.

"Tap, tap..." Footsteps came from afar.

Bai Lu looked ahead helplessly when a blurry figure appeared in her sight, quickly approaching, and soon a pair of long boots appeared in front of her.

A zombie dressed in Qing Dynasty official robes and with a long braid stood in front of Bai Lu. He sniffed the air, and the smell of blood made him roar with excitement.

The second-tier zombie dog, fearing the zombie would steal her food, growled angrily and pounced on the zombie. The zombie, seeing the charging dog, swung its hand, its sharp claws slicing through the second-tier zombie's neck, leaving a deep wound.

The second-tier zombie dog seemed to feel no pain, leaping forward and pouncing towards the zombie.

Seeing the second-tier zombie dog pounce on it, the zombie quickly grabbed the dog's neck with both hands, snapped its neck with a crack, and slammed it to the ground. Then, it leaped up and stomped on the second-tier zombie's head, cracking its skull.

Bai Lu watched as the second-tier zombie dog's head was stomped on, its brains splattering out. Her pupils contracted, and her eyes widened involuntarily. She struggled to her feet, preparing to escape.

She had just stood up when her shoulder was suddenly grabbed, and a pale face appeared before Bai Lu's eyes, its sharp teeth terrifying her to the point of utter horror.

"Ah!" The zombie roared and bit Bai Lu's neck. Blood seeped from between its teeth into the zombie's mouth and was swallowed.

Bai Lu stared in horror, her eyes rolled back, and she fainted.

The zombie casually tossed the unconscious Bai Lu aside, leaving her body in the roadside bushes.

In the darkness, a rustling sound came from afar. Chu Yunxiao, who was resting with his eyes closed, suddenly opened them, took out a dagger, and stared warily in the direction from which the sound came.

The rustling sound grew closer, rapidly approaching Chu Yunxiao's direction. Chu Yunxiao tightened his grip on the dagger, looked around at the pitch-black surroundings, and frowned slightly. It was too dark at night for a fight; he needed to find a place to hide.

Spotting a large tree about two zhang away, Chu Xiao ran to the tree and nimbly climbed it, secretly watching and wondering whether the sound was coming from a person or an animal.

Chu Yunxiao stood on a tree branch. In the dim moonlight, he heard a rustling sound coming from the grass. Soon he came to the tree and a pair of bright green eyes looked up at the tree.

Blackie came to the big tree, sniffed it, and confirmed that Chu Yunxiao was there. He then barked at the tree.

Chu Yunxiao was very surprised to hear Blackie's cry and exclaimed, "Blackie!"

Chu Yunxiao never expected that Hei Pi would run away from home, find his way to the mountains, and even find him.

Blackie barked twice at Chu Yunxiao, as if in response.

Chu Yunxiao slid down from the tree, squatted down, and patted its head. "Blackie, what brings you here?"

Blackie nuzzled Chu Yunxiao's hand and whimpered twice; it didn't want to be home alone.

Chu Yunxiao knew that Hei Pi missed Liu Anran and Yunlong, and sighed, "It's good that they're here. Let's go find Anran and Yunlong together."

After hearing Chu Yunxiao's words, Blackie wagged its tail happily and circled around Chu Yunxiao joyfully.

Seeing Heipi's happy expression, Chu Yunxiao became even more certain that Heipi missed Liu Anran and Yunlong.

Chu Yun sighed and patted Hei Pi's head. Hei Pi had gained sentience and was becoming increasingly intelligent.

Chu Yunxiao took out a bread from his spatial storage, tore open the packaging, and fed it to Hei Pi. "Eat up! Get some rest after you eat. We'll set off tomorrow to find An Ran and Yunlong."

After finishing his bread, Blackie lay down to rest at Chu Yunxiao's feet.

next day

Sunlight bathed the earth, and Bai Lu slowly opened her eyes. The dazzling sunlight made her instinctively close her eyes again. She slowly sat up. She was not dead; she was still alive.

Bai Lu burst into laughter, then suddenly realized she couldn't make a sound, and her face showed panic.

Why can't she make a sound? What's wrong with her? Why can't she make a sound? She tried to speak, but the words got stuck in her throat and she couldn't say anything. She could only make "ho ho" sounds.

I stretched my hands out in front of my eyes and saw that my scarred hands were pale and bluish-white, without any luster.

After being bitten by a level 2 zombie dog, she was then bitten by a zombie. Is she being zombified?
