Chapter 84 Entering the Village

Seeing how well Chu Yunxiao and Liu Anran treated Duan Yi, and even giving Duan Yi two bags of rice, Song Hui felt very dissatisfied.

Duan Yi looked at Song Hui's indignant face, sneered, raised his hand and made a shooting gesture at Song Hui, then smiled wickedly and said, "You make me very unhappy. You better not let me run into you again. If I do, I will definitely kill you."

Song Hui watched Duan Yi get into the car with a gloomy expression, but there was nothing he could do about it.

Chu Yunxiao glanced at Song Hui and said to Liu Anran, "Let's get in the car."

"Brother, my car is out of gas. Could I hitch a ride with you?" Jiang Cheng said.

Chu Yunxiao said, "You drive."

"Okay! Big brother," Jiang Cheng said happily.

As soon as Jiang Cheng opened the car door, Blackie, who was sitting in the passenger seat, yelled at him.

Jiang Cheng was startled. Holy crap! There was a big, shiny black dog in the car.

"Brother, where did you catch this dog? Are you planning to kill it and eat it?"

Upon hearing Jiang Cheng's words, Blackie immediately stood up, ready to pounce on Jiang Cheng and bite him. This foolish human actually wanted to eat its flesh.

Liu Anran said, "Blackie, don't shout. Otherwise, get out of the car and walk yourself."

Blackie immediately quieted down, his face full of grievance, his head drooping.

Holy crap! This dog's got a mind of its own! It even has human expressions!

Blackie was Yunlong's playmate, and Yunlong had the deepest bond with him. He would often secretly feed Blackie a sip of spiritual spring water behind Liu Anran's back, and he couldn't bear to see Blackie suffer any injustice.

“Blackie, whoever wants to eat your flesh, you can eat his flesh first.”

Blackie's eyes lit up, and he instantly became energetic. He barked twice at Jiang Cheng in a defiant manner, as if to say, "Did you hear me? If you say another word, I'll bite you to death and eat your flesh."

Jiang Cheng stared in disbelief. "Holy crap! When did dogs become so arrogant?"

Chu Yunxiao sat down next to Liu Anran and said to Jiang Cheng, "Drive!"

Jiang Cheng sat nervously in the driver's seat, glancing warily at Hei Pi, afraid that Hei Pi would pounce on him and bite him.

Blackie looked at Jiang Cheng with disdain in his eyes.

"Boss, where did you find this dog? It's practically a spirit!" Jiang Cheng exclaimed in surprise.

"It's your sister-in-law's dog," Chu Yunxiao said. "It's very smart, probably as intelligent as a four- or five-year-old child."

Liu Anran's lips curled up slightly; Chu Yunxiao was treating her like his wife.

Looking at the dog's black, shiny fur, Jiang Cheng could tell it was very well cared for. These days, dogs live more comfortably than people; it's truly outrageous.

Liu Anran frowned as she looked at the truck driving ahead and said, "Yunxiao, does your uncle's men have a problem with us?"

“Don’t worry about them. I won’t put you and the child in danger for them. Besides, Duan Yi is ruthless and cunning, and he even saved your life. I don’t want to be his enemy,” Chu Yunxiao said.

Song Hui was merely Qin Ruixu's subordinate, not Qin Ruixu himself, and therefore not worthy of Qin Ruixu's full assistance.

Blackie barked twice at Jiang Cheng and scratched the car door with its paw. Jiang Cheng looked at Blackie, puzzled, and said, "Blackie, I didn't do anything to you, why are you calling me that?"

"Blackie told you to stop the car because it needs to get out and pee," Yunlong explained.

Jiang stopped the car, and Hei Pi opened the car door himself, then jumped out, lifted his hind leg, and started urinating by the roadside.

Jiang Cheng was dumbfounded. Holy crap! He had never seen such an awesome dog before. This was truly an eye-opener.

After urinating, Blackie jumped into the car and barked at Jiang Cheng a few times.

Jiang Cheng was confused. What did Hei Pi mean?

"Blackie wants you to close the car door for him," Yunlong said.

"It can open the car door, but not close it?" Jiang Daoche asked.

“Opening the door is easy, but closing it requires force. How could I possibly close the car door properly?” Yunlong said.

"Who usually closes the door for it?" Jiang Cheng asked.

“My dad,” Yunlong said.

Jiang Cheng closed the car door and said dejectedly, "Brother, I feel like Blackie is treating me like a servant."

Liu Anran smiled. Blackie was already smart, and with Yunlong secretly feeding it spiritual spring water every few days, it became even smarter. It probably started treating Jiang Cheng like a subordinate.

Chu Yunxiao was surprised that Jiang Cheng had some self-awareness. He suppressed a laugh and said, "I also often close the car door for Blackie. Am I its servant too?"

Upon hearing this, Jiang Cheng realized it was true; Blackie was just a little smarter than an ordinary dog, and he had been overthinking things.

Seeing that Jiang Cheng was distracted while driving, Chu Yunxiao reminded him, "Jiang Cheng, your sister-in-law is pregnant with two children. Please concentrate on driving and be careful. You can't bump into anything."

Jiang Cheng dared not let his mind wander any longer and focused intently on driving.

Looking at the houses in the distance, Jiang Cheng asked, "Brother, should we continue on our way, or stay overnight in the village ahead?"

"Let's stay in the village for the night and continue our journey tomorrow," Chu Yunxiao said.

Jiang Cheng turned the car around, left the highway, and headed towards the village.

Jiang Cheng noticed that the further he drove in, the fewer zombies there were, as if the area had been cleared out. There must be people in the village.

Liu Anran's leg suddenly cramped, and she frowned in discomfort.

Seeing that Liu Anran's face was a little pale, Chu Yunxiao asked with concern, "Anran, what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"

"My legs cramped up, probably from sitting in the car for too long, and I feel a bit uncomfortable," Liu Anran said.

Chu Yunxiao lifted Liu Anniran's legs and placed them on his thighs, gently massaging them.

"Just bear with it a little longer, we'll be home in two days."

"Okay!" Liu Anran said softly.

What else can she do but endure it?

"Brother, there's a checkpoint ahead, guarded by people," Jiang Cheng said.

“Drive over there and see what their attitude is,” Chu Yunxiao said.

Jiang Cheng drove to the checkpoint and stopped. The guards walked up to the car and told them to get out.

Chu Yunxiao got out of the car and asked the guard, "My child is still young, and my wife is pregnant. I'd like to stay here for the night, is that alright?"

As Chu Yunxiao spoke, he helped Liu Anran out of the car, and Yunlong and Heipi also jumped out of the car.

Yunlong greeted the two guards with a smile, "Hello, gentlemen!"

The two guards smiled and nodded slightly to Yunlong. Seeing that Chu Yunxiao had brought his family, they figured he wasn't a bad person. One of the guards said, "Leave your weapons and car here. We'll find you a place to stay for the night. You must leave at daybreak tomorrow."

Chu Yunxiao looked at Jiang Cheng, who then handed the pistol to the guard.

The guard then looked at Chu Yunxiao, who pleaded, "My wife is beautiful, and I'm worried that someone might have bad intentions towards her. Could I leave her a pistol for self-defense?"

Looking at Liu Anran's beautiful face, the guards exchanged glances. One of them said with difficulty, "The rules cannot be broken. I can't break the rules, or I'll be punished by the village chief."

“You can stay at my house! I will protect your wife,” said one of the older guards.

Seeing that there was no room for negotiation, Liu Anran said reasonably, "Yunxiao, take out the gun, and don't make things difficult for Brother Guard."

Chu Yunxiao took out his gun and handed it to the guard. The older guard took the pistol and said, "I will return the gun to you tomorrow."

Chu Yunxiao smiled and nodded, carrying his backpack, supporting Liu Anran, and leading Yunlong and Jiang Cheng, following behind the guards towards his home.

The guard looked at Blackie obediently following Yunlong and not running around, and said with a smile, "Brother, you've raised a really good dog."

“They were raised from a young age, so they are quite obedient,” Chu Yunxiao replied.

...

As Chu Yunxiao walked, he subtly probed for information, gaining a fairly good understanding of the village's situation and becoming much closer to the village.

Liu Anran walked along without seeing a single zombie, and the fields were deserted and barren. However, she noticed that the two guards looked alright and didn't seem to be starving. She asked calmly, "Uncle, do people often come to your village?"
