Chapter 9 Trapped

When An Qiao saw that Chu Yunxiao had destroyed Liu Anran's house, a gloating smile appeared on her face.

"Boss, look?" Chu Yunxiao's subordinate handed him a photo frame.

Chu Yunxiao took the photo frame and looked at the mother and son in the photo. The boy had a bright smile, and although the woman was smiling, upon closer inspection, there was a faint sorrow between her brows.

Chu Yunxiao sighed. Liu Anran must be very tired taking care of the child alone!

If life was so difficult, why did you give birth to the child? Why didn't you go find him?

"Let's go!" Chu Yunxiao said, walking towards the door. He had just taken a step when he felt as if he had stepped on something. He lifted his foot and saw that it was a peach pit.

Chu Yunxiao bent down, picked up the peach pit, and looked at it. A slight smile appeared on his lips.

Liu Anran and her child should have left within the last couple of days; the mother and child must still be in the city.

Chu Yunxiao threw the peach pit against the wall, and the pit embedded itself deeply into the wall.

An Qiao looked at the peach pit in the wall, a strange light flashing in her eyes.

Chu Yunxiao left Liu Anran's house with a relaxed expression. He was sure he would find Liu Anran and the child.

The streets were silent except for Liu Anran's footsteps, her rapid breathing, and the sounds of the zombies. She fought off the approaching zombies as she ran toward her destination.

Liu Anran felt her strength waning. She glanced at a shop on the street with its shutter door half open, not far from her. Fortunately, there were no zombies around the shop. Overjoyed, she ran towards the shop.

"Mom, watch out behind you!" Yunlong exclaimed.

Liu Anran reflexively turned her head to the side and saw a pale hand brush past her cheek. She swung the baseball bat in her hand hard and smashed it into the zombie's head. The zombie was hit in the head, swayed twice, and fell to the ground.

Liu Anran ran into the shop and quickly closed the roller shutter.

On the second floor across from the shop, Li Tianyi exclaimed in surprise, "Brother Qiang, the woman we just saw, doesn't she look like the woman we saw the day before yesterday?"

A hint of surprise and astonishment flashed in Wang Qiang's deep eyes as he said, "Carrying a child and a backpack, it should be that woman."

"She's got a tough life," Bai Lu said.

“If you were like her, raising a child alone, you would have been torn to pieces by zombies long ago,” Li Tianyi said.

Bai Lu was self-aware; if she were to walk alone in the apocalypse, she would have no ability to protect herself, let alone her child.

“You can invite her to join our team,” Bai Lu said sourly.

Wang Qiang admired Liu Anran, and after hearing Bai Lu's words, a hint of regret appeared on his face.

“I really wanted to invite her to join our team, but unfortunately she has a child.”

It's the apocalypse now, with zombies roaming everywhere. A slight mistake could mean certain death. She admires Liu Anran, but that's all. She wouldn't team up with a woman who has a child.

Liu Anran leaned against the wall, panting. "Damn, I'm so tired!" Luckily, she had been working since she was a child and was very strong. She could carry loads weighing over 100 pounds. Because she was pretty, men always tried to take advantage of her. She even went to learn Sanda (Chinese kickboxing) for two months, otherwise she would have been dead long ago.

She found herself unintentionally walking into a shop selling fertilizers and pesticides, and a secret joy welled up inside her. How could farming be done without pesticides and fertilizers?

Yunlong felt a pang of sadness seeing Liu Anran panting heavily. If his mother hadn't carried him, he wouldn't have been so tired.

Seeing the guilt on Yunlong's face, Liu Anran affectionately patted his head. She was already very satisfied that the little boy was quiet and didn't make a fuss.

When Yunlong saw blood on Liu Anran's face, he reached out to wipe it for her, but Liu Anran grabbed his hand and stopped him, saying, "Yunlong, don't move. My face has zombie blood and a virus. You must not touch it or put it in your mouth, or you will get infected."

Yunlong quickly withdrew his hand, looking at the blood on Liu Anran's face with lingering fear.

"Thump, thump..." The roller shutter door made a loud banging sound.

Yunlong exclaimed, "Mom, what if the zombies break down the door and come in?"

"Shh! Zombies have very sensitive hearing, so don't speak," Liu Anran whispered.

Yunlong's face was filled with fear, and he nodded hurriedly. He would definitely listen and wouldn't say anything out of line.

Liu Anran put Yunlong down and whispered, "Mom will send you into the space. After you enter the space, you are not allowed to go near the fishpond or the well. If you are thirsty, drink the water in your own space. If you are hungry, eat peaches and apples."

As Liu Anran spoke, she sent Yunlong into her space.

The zombies kept banging on the door, their roars coming through the cracks, sending chills down Liu Anran's spine.

Liu Anran forced herself to suppress her inner fear, put the pesticides and fertilizers into her spatial storage, and then stared at the roller shutter door, listening to the "thump thump" of the door being banged on. Her heart was in her throat. The roller shutter door wouldn't last long, and she had to leave this place.

Liu Anran ate two apples and drank half a bottle of water. Since she couldn't freely enter or leave the space, she leaned against the wall, closed her eyes, and rested to recover her strength, waiting for an opportunity to leave.

Wang Qiang, Li Tianyi, and Bai Lu stood by the window, watching a group of zombies gather at the shop entrance, constantly banging on the roller shutter door.

"The roller shutter won't last long; that woman is doomed this time," Bai Lu said.

“Someone lured the zombies away, so she and her child still have a chance to survive,” Li Tianyi said.

"Would you like to help lure the zombies away?" Bai Lu asked.

Li Tianyi felt a chill run down his spine as he looked at the densely packed zombies. He dared not go downstairs to rescue anyone, or he would be torn to pieces and swallowed by the zombies.
