The other high-ranking officials of Luogong City had very complicated emotions towards this public enemy of mankind, the descendant of war criminals of the old era. One or two young people following behind even cast looks of disgust and hatred towards Bai Shiying.
If the Bai family had not been so stubborn as to try to unite all of humanity and promote war in order to expand across the stars, the Earth would not have been destroyed, the land would not have been scorched, civilization would not have collapsed, and humanity would not have become extinct.
They will not be invaded wantonly by foreign civilizations, or at least they will not be suppressed so miserably.
After all, Earth civilization once had a highly developed level of technology, and even if it faced Avalon and other alien supernatural creatures, it might not be without the ability to fight.
But now...
Humanity has reached a critical moment of survival.
"Bai Shiying! The Chixia Council has already issued a kill order to all the fortified cities. How dare you show up here?!"
Among the senior officials of the ruling department standing on both sides, one of the middle-aged men saw the rude attitude of the white-haired girl and couldn't help but scold her.
His great-grandfather died in a devastating war decades ago. All of his grandfather's brothers and sisters died in the war, and his mother died in agony due to nuclear pollution. Only his grandfather and his father survived underground. Such a blood feud would be difficult to eliminate even if the entire ocean was covered.
In fact, it's not just him. There is no human being alive on Earth who does not have a blood feud with the Bai family.
"Oh?" Bai Shiying, a descendant of war criminals, showed no guilt towards these people. He just laughed suddenly and turned to look at Lin Chen, a smile in his pure white eyes: "When did Luogong City obey the Chixia Council?"
But before Lin Chen could respond, she continued, "But right now, Chixia City is the most dominant among the fortified cities. It's also the main force fighting against the alien monsters, and it has the support of people like Yan Ziqing. Judging from this trend, this continent will sooner or later be unified by the Chixia Council."
"you...!!"
The expressions of several other senior executives changed. They hadn't said anything before, but now their eyes turned to Bai Shiying with anger.
The several major cities are independent of each other and have established different social systems. They are just forming a superficial alliance for the survival of mankind. In fact, they are not of one mind, and there is no question of who is submissive or who obeys whom.
"Miss Shiying, please stop trying to sow discord here. You know the current situation on Earth much better than the rest of us." Lin Chen's expression remained unchanged as he spoke calmly, "At this critical juncture for humanity's survival, the stronger Chixia City becomes, the better it will be for all of humanity. We're not fools, and infighting at this time is nothing but self-destruction."
"That's not necessarily true. Humans are inherently prone to fighting amongst themselves." Bai Shiying's eyes flickered, a smile still playing on her lips, though it was tinged with a hint of frost. "Back then, my great-grandfather swept across four continents, integrating the world with minimal casualties, ushering in the interstellar age and initiating a new era of civilization. If it weren't for those villains who, fighting for power, betrayed us at a critical moment, stole control of the lunar weapons, and ultimately caused a devastating war, how could we have ended up like this now?"
The Bai family still failed that year, and along with other allies and enemies, they completely disappeared into history.
"Your Bai family, as one of the leaders of the destructive war, has been tried in a military court. Do you still want to shift the blame to others?"
The senior executive who spoke earlier frowned and continued to scold.
"Since ancient times, the victors have always been kings and the losers have always been bandits." Lin Chen stopped the other party from speaking and just looked at Bai Shiying: "Since your Bai family has failed, you must bear the consequences and responsibilities."
"But now is not the time to discuss this, Miss Shiying. Although Luogongcheng will not directly become your enemy, you are not welcome here either. If you want to use this place as the Bai family's back garden, you will absolutely not be allowed to do so."
He actually directly issued an order to expel them. With so many high-level officials around and many security forces stationed in the distance, it seemed that they were welcoming them, but in fact they were on guard and preparing for war. They would fight at the slightest sign of movement.
Bai Shiying shook her head, a hint of disappointment in her eyes: "Lin Chen, you are still in the Nether Realm, but you can't even tell when something unusual is happening in the city under your jurisdiction..."
"Even if there's something fishy going on in Luogong City, there's no need for an outsider like you to intervene." Lin Chen remained silent. The middle-aged woman standing beside him spoke slowly, "And to most people, your Bai family is nothing more than a rat crossing the street, a threat no less than those exotic monsters."
"A rat crossing the street? Haha, what a joke! But only a few decades have passed, and everyone has forgotten the true colors of my Bai family!" Bai Shiying was unusually not angry. Instead, she covered her mouth and chuckled as if she had heard a joke: "In fact, it's all the fault of my Bai family's ancestors. They looked down on worldly power and only stayed on Earth for a few decades before leaving for the higher world. Otherwise, with the might of the Bone Throne..."
"The Bone Throne is a myth, and its details are impossible to ascertain." Lin Chen interrupted the girl's laughter and said calmly, "Why did Miss Shiying say that there were unusual movements in Luogong City? Did you discover something?"
"I discovered traces of an exotic monster in the Yangtze River Basin." Bai Shiying didn't dwell on the other party's rudeness, but simply whispered, "She calls herself the Scarlet Envoy. Her true identity is unknown. She wields the power of nightmares, able to drag other creatures into her dreams. I had a brief battle with her, but I couldn't stop her, so I followed the traces all the way here."
"If nothing unexpected happens, she should be in Luogong City now."
