Chapter 57 Digging for Ginseng

"Shen Zhiqing, why are you so late today?"

Chu Mingxu walked up to Shen Mu Ning, his deep eyes fixed on her.

"Oh, it's nothing. I just gathered a little extra firewood today." Shen Mu Ning felt a little uneasy under Chu Ming Xu's gaze.

Shen Mu Ning quickly changed the subject: "Um, what are you going up the mountain for now?"

Chu Mingxu looked at Shen Mu Ning's lowered eyes and did not ask any further questions.

He simply said, "It's nothing. I saw that you were the only one who went up the mountain and hadn't come back for so long, so I went up to check on you."

Shen Mu Ning nodded and walked back with Chu Ming Xu, one after the other.

Chu Mingxu walked behind Shen Muning and looked at the firewood she was carrying. It was damper than the firewood in the forest, so it seemed that Shen Muning had just gone deep into the mountains.

What Chen Mu Ning didn't know was that Chu Mingxu and she left the house one after the other today.

However, since Chu Mingxu was heading towards the cowshed, which was the opposite direction from hers, Shen Mu Ning didn't notice that Chu Mingxu had also gone out.

Ever since Chu Mingxu learned that Cao Jin was related to the Red Letter Soldiers, he wanted to find time to remind his grandparents.

It just so happens that the brigade is harvesting corn today. The educated youth are not used to such a high intensity of labor on their first day, and they don't go out at noon.

Therefore, Chu Mingxu went directly to the cowshed to tell his grandparents that he hadn't been going there recently.

After returning to the educated youth settlement, he went up the mountain, but he didn't encounter Shen Mu Ning at all.

He didn't see Shen Mu Ning even after he finished collecting a basket of firewood.

He returned to the mountain because he wanted to see if Shen Mu Ning had actually gone deep into the mountains.

As soon as he reached the top of the mountain, he saw Shen Mu Ning walking down the mountain.

Chu Mingxu was filled with mixed emotions. He was determined to find out whether Shen Mu Ning, a powerful figure who had suddenly appeared in the Xinshan Brigade, would be a threat to himself or his family.

Shen Mu Ning was unaware of Chu Ming Xu's thoughts. She could only marvel at him, thinking that he truly deserved to be called a military expert. When he stood before her just now, she felt somewhat guilty even when lying.

But is Chu Mingxu here because he suspects I'm a threat?

If we have to go deep into the mountains again, won't we be under Chu Mingxu's suspicion once more?

However, she remembered that it was written in the novel that Chu Mingxu often went to the deep mountains to hunt animals.

Then I can use the excuse of going into the deep mountains to find some wild animals to openly visit him.

That way we won't have to sneak around anymore.
