On the morning of July 5th, Shen Mu Ning wrapped two cotton quilts in a bed sheet and made a bundle out of cotton cloth to contain two kinds of steamed buns without filling that wouldn't spoil easily. These were foods to keep quiet when she couldn't buy food in time, so she couldn't be too conspicuous. In addition to what she put in the bundle, she also put some of the same things in her spatial storage.
She also included a military water bottle in her small bundle, a gift from the original owner's father. Shen Yu initially wanted to use it herself, but Shen Guoliang, fearing gossip, left it with the original owner. She didn't mind that it had been used by the original owner; after all, only soldiers could obtain military water bottles. She was now an orphan, but being an orphan of a martyr was different; people everywhere held soldiers and martyrs in high regard. If she were unlucky enough to encounter someone determined to provoke her, her status as an orphan of a martyr would be a great shield.
She used another suitcase to pack her clothes, a military overcoat, and some personal belongings. The suitcase and overcoat also belonged to the original owner's father. There were originally two military overcoats that Shen Guoliang had kept in his wardrobe. Since Shen Muling was leaving, she naturally wouldn't leave such valuable items behind. Having a military overcoat in Lingbei would make going out in winter much more comfortable. Fortunately, Shen Guoliang was proud and had never worn them; otherwise, Shen Mulin would have preferred to burn them rather than keep them.
These are all the things Shen Mu Ning brought with her. Although she is strong now and can carry more things without any problem, people are now squeezing onto the train with big bags and small packages, which will be very troublesome due to the crowds. Therefore, she put most of her items in her spatial storage.
Because the train to the countryside was scheduled to depart from Haishi Railway Station at 5:00 AM on July 6th, Shen Mu Ning packed her things, took her rural work certificate, letter of introduction, train ticket, and subsidy documents, and left home without looking back.
During working hours, there weren't many adults out and about, but a few neighborhood kids were playing in the street and saw Shen Mu Ning leaving with bags and packages. However, they didn't really interact with her; they only mentioned her briefly to their families when they went home for lunch. The neighbors were all lamenting the misfortunes of Shen Guo Liang's family, but no one was particularly close to Shen Mu Ning's family, and they had no right to criticize them.
Shen Mu Ning wasn't one to compromise her principles, so she packed her bags and checked into a hotel near the train station early in the morning. The next morning, she joined the crowd and boarded the train. Since Hai City Railway Station was the first stop for this train, the train was still somewhat empty. Shen Mu Ning's seat was by the window, which relieved her; otherwise, once the train was packed, she wouldn't even be able to breathe any fresh air.
Shen Mu Ning walked to her seat, placed the cotton bundle on the shelf, put the suitcase at her feet, and took the small bundle containing the grain in her hand.
It happened to be the time when educated youth were sent to the countryside, and soon, five young people—three men and two women—sat down next to her and across from her. Judging from their attire, they were all educated youth sent to the countryside. Shen Mu Ning herself didn't feel like talking to anyone, but the boy in the middle of the seat opposite her was very lively and wanted to make things more interesting, so he took the lead in introducing himself.
"Hello comrades, my name is Li Hai, and I've come to Shandong as part of the educated youth movement." After Li Hai finished speaking, a man sitting by the aisle immediately chimed in, "Hello, my name is Zhao Mingjie, and I'm also an educated youth sent to Shandong." The two had come together, and Zhao Mingjie had been helping Li Hai with his luggage. Zhao Mingjie seemed quite ingratiating towards Li Hai, suggesting they knew each other beforehand, and Li Hai's family was clearly better off. The remaining men, led by Li Hai, also introduced themselves one by one.
